USA - Since 1960, Cincinnati Public Radio (CPR) has provided listeners in southwest Ohio, southeast Indiana, and northern Kentucky with a steady diet of journalism and engaging cultural programming. In 2018, the organisation committed to an ambitious reimagining of their headquarters in the form of a new, two-story facility that would provide them with more modern technical capabilities and ample event programming spaces to serve as a cultural hub for their community of listeners.

To ensure that the new headquarters would have top-of-the-line AV production facilities seamlessly blended into this new vision, the organisation made architectural acoustic designers WSDG a key player in the design, construction, and AV systems integration team they assembled for the project.

Canada - Indie rockers Peach Pit completed the North American section of their Long Hair, Long Life tour with a new lighting design from George Gorton from Vancouver-based creative design studio Loud Entertainment Design Group.

The visual concept relied heavily on lighting for impact – there were no video elements on this leg of the tour campaign – and included some key Robe products, including Forte moving lights and HolyPATT scenic luminaires, supplied by rental company Promosa, also from Vancouver.

George has been working with the band for four years as their LD, and before then their paths overlapped several times around as they were rising stars on Vancouver’s energetic local live music scene, so he’s witnessed most of their career trajectory first-hand and is now delighted to be a part of it.

Europe - When Imagine Dragons recently undertook the European leg of their Loom World Tour – taking in major cities before culminating in two sold-out shows at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – their trademark high-energy stage show was further boosted by the presence of 52 of GLP’s new JDC Burst 1.

The tour was supported by Neg Earth Lights, an early adopter of this powerful hybrid IP65-rated strobe, which substantially raises the bar in brightness, colour variety and flexibility.

When the American band’s show designer for the past seven years, Mitchell Schellenger from Station Six, was seeking just such a powerful strobe/wash, Neg Earth was quick to demonstrate this superior alternative to the fixture originally specified. “And the design team were very happy to make the switch,” notes Neg Earth project manager, Alex Griffiths. USA - Florida-based production and integration company Thunder City Pro is turning to Obsidian Control Systems’ Onyx lighting control platform as the backbone of a growing portfolio of complex lighting projects. Known for delivering arena-level lighting systems and executing multifaceted outdoor lighting installations, Thunder City Pro relies on Onyx for its ability to handle high-bandwidth, multi-universe lighting networks.

One high-profile example of Thunder City Pro’s capabilities is the transformation of YouTuber and motorsports personality Cleetus McFarland’s Freedom Factory racetrack into a holiday light experience – part of the Bradenton Holiday Lights Festival, which debuted last season.

When McFarland sought to bring a large-scale light experience to his motorsports venue as a way to connect with the local community beyond r

USA - Justin Casey and his team at HELM Projects took the geometric approach to lighting Stick Figure’s 15-date Island Holiday Summer Tour, which recently concluded with a performance at the Levitate Music Festival.

Working closely with the award-winning reggae band, Casey wanted to include a wide variety of design elements in his production. He knew that carefully arranging shapes and patterns would be essential to keeping all the various components of his design harmoniously balanced.

“With this design, we really focused on clean lines and unique shapes,” said Casey. “There were a lot of moving parts to this show. It was all about getting a nice balance of lighting, video, and lasers. Having a good blend of shapes helped us pull it all together into one seamless flow.”

A key part of Casey’s geometry was the ‘Triforce

UK - In a live spatial audio first, a recent performance of the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra was authentically spatialised using an object-based TiMax mix across the standard left/right main system of a conventional festival PA setup.

The landmark moment took place in London’s BST Hyde Park Festival (BST), where Solotech UK supplied the Martin Audio loudspeaker system. Sound designer and FOH mix engineer, Sonosphere’s Phil Wright, realised the sonic feat by replacing the usual console matrix mixer function with a TiMax SoundHub delay-matrix spatial processor. Working within the constraints of a typical stereo hang system – plus standard front-fills and delays – Wright redefined the possibilities of spatial audio in a live outdoor setting.

“Usually, only a small percentage of the audience falls within the stereo corridor at

USA - Volbeat frontman, Michael Paulson, kicked off the Los Angele Kia Forum show on the band’s eagerly anticipated Greatest Of All World Tours by apologising to the sellout crowd if his sore throat might affect his upcoming performance, but declared that he wouldn’t want to miss this show.

Paulson and his bandmates then broke out like runaway trains with a headbanging rendition of The Devil’s Bleeding Crown, followed by Lola Montez, sending the crowd into a frenzy and nearly blowing the 407ft high roof of the big arena.

It's been the same story at every stop along the way on the USA leg of their global tour, which began 17 July at Denver’s Ball Arena and ended 22 August at the Credit Union One amphitheatre outside Chicago. Matching the music is a hard-driving Niller Bjerregaard lighting design powered by a ChamSy

Mexico - The Catedral De La Inmaculada Concepción is the main Catholic church for the diocese of Tampico, a city and port in the southeastern part of the state of Tamaulipas.

Prominently located in front of the Plaza de Armas in the historic centre of the city, this architecturally important building is much loved by worshippers, although the consistency of speech intelligibility throughout the venue has, until recently, been less than ideal. All that changed with the installation by Tacea Music of a new Nexo ID Series sound system.

“Thanks to the professionalism and care of Jorge Tace Del Campo and the team at Tacea Music it was possible to implement an effective, aesthetically respectful and technically sound solution for this unique space,” reports Carlos Hernadez, market development for Nexo’s distributor in Mexico, Represe

USA - Stand Up To Cancer, an organisation with a mission to raise awareness and fund research to detect and treat cancers with the aspiration to cure all patients, hosted its ninth annual telecast at The Pinnacle in Nashville on 15 August. The event featured inspirational performances that helped secure millions of dollars in donations for cancer research. Audio engineers used Shure technology to deliver pristine audio and inspiring messages to more than four million viewers on ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX.

For this year's event, audio producer Tom Davis, known for his work on the CMA Awards and CMA Festival, sought product support from Shure. He specifically requested headset mics for the Nashville Community Gospel Choir, who were outfitted with Shure’s new SM39 Cardioid Singing Headset Microphone. Both Tom Davis and Jason Spence, front-of-house engineer for th

UK - Olly Murs shows are non-stop. Keeping up requires the flexibility and power of a DiGiCo console, so Rob Sadler at the front-of-house position and John Lumsdon on monitors both chose the Quantum 5, supplied by Solotech, for Olly’s epic tour, including his O2 Arena dates in May.

The engineers joined Olly Murs a little over a year ago but, as Rob Sadler explains, their relationship with DiGiCo consoles began much earlier.

“I first used a DiGiCo in 2011, and I’ve used them on almost every tour I’ve done since 2015,” he recalls. “It is definitely the console I feel most comfortable behind and most things are now second nature. I’ve been on tour with Olly for about 16 months and it’s been a lot of fun. It’s what I’d class as a proper pop music concert. There are pyrotechnics, confetti and automated staging, there’s even snow!”<

Paraguay - A large complement of Claypaky lighting fixtures illuminated the opening ceremony of the second Junior Pan American Games 2025 in Asuncion, Paraguay. Lighting designer Gaspar Potocnik of Cue Uno selected an impressive total of 340 Claypaky fixtures for the event, with a special focus on 84 Sharpy Plus hybrid beams and 40 Midi-B compact moving heads. The rig also featured 162 Mythos 2 and 54 Stormy CC colour strobes. They were provided by Estudio 69 in Paraguay and PRG in Argentina.

The games, which are staged every four years, were held from 9-23 August with young athletes from 41 countries across Latin America participating in 28 sports. The opening ceremony took place in the Estadio Ueno Defensores del Chaco and incorporated artistic performances and tableaux showcasing the nation’s rich Guarani heritage, one of the pillars of Paraguayan cultu

Poland - When Katie Melua's technical rider specified L-Acoustics for her performance at Poland's Energa Ladies Jazz Festival, they did so because her performance demands precise sound coverage at controlled SPL levels across the challenging 4,500 capacity Polsat Plus Arena. The response came through a strategic partnership between Polish rental company Krupski Sound and L-Acoustics certified partner Audio Plus, deploying flagship L2 arrays that transcended the venue's difficult acoustics and marked a defining moment for regional sound production capabilities.

The 21st edition of Europe's only recurring festival dedicated to female jazz artistry, which has brought together over 110,000 attendees and 600+ performers throughout its history, featured international stars including Katie Melua, Dionne Warwick, and Randy Crawford across four distinct venu

Indonesia - Holywings is an Indonesian lifestyle and entertainment group with a varied selection of bars, clubs and live music venues, spread across the island’s key cities.

Many of the venues under the Holywings banner feature Martin Audio solutions, provided and installed by partner, GMT Group.

Their latest sound system upgrade - at the HW Superhouse Paskal Bandung live music bar - is no exception, although in this instance it is a new-generation Martin Audio WPC line array that provides the main stage hangs rather than the point source that populates many of the other venues. The system was conceived by the marketing and technical director of GMT Group, Satrio Prisetya.

Superhouse Paskal Bandung itself is a large, near 400-capacity, open-plan venue with its stage set centrally. The venue offers combines live band performances with DJ set

Fabrique has a complete Robe moving light rig installed, featuring over 150 moving lights – a mix of Fortes, MegaPointes, LEDBeam 150s, Spiiders, TetraXs, Tetra2s, Paintes and Pointes all supplied by Robe’s Italian distributor, RM Multimedia through the venue’s resident in-house technical provider, For Sound.

Sergio made the most of all these fixtures, and additional LEDBeam 350s further augmented the lighting rig with 24 x Robe SVB1s and four HolyPATTS, supplied

Sweden - In the heart of Stockholm’s medieval Gamla Stan district, one of the world’s oldest restaurants, Gyldene Freden, offers a taste of traditional Swedish cuisine. Since opening its doors in 1722, Gyldene Freden has provided guests with a gourmet dining experience alongside a glimpse into Stockholm’s history, but until recently, the restaurant lacked a sound system to complement its classic setting. With so many rooms and architectural quirks, Genelec Smart IP loudspeakers were chosen for an audio solution that would maintain its timeless charm.

Gyldene Freden’s owners turned to installation and control specialists, We Make Noise, to install the system. “Genelec was an obvious choice for us,” says Emil Varli, who led the installation for We Make Noise. “We believe there are very few brands that can deliver a loudspeaker as compact and comp

Spain - Lapso Studios’ boutique fitness studio in Barcelona is keeping the energy levels high with a powerful sound system from Electro-Voice and Dynacord. The fitness studio offers classes over three disciplines – cycling, functional fitness and barre. It required a club-style solution to ensure its clients were motivated and had the best possible experience.

“There are elements that we use in the room such as sound, microphone, lights as well as a motivational instructor to facilitate the class,” explains Lapso trainer, Ishaq Vadillo. “Sound is one of the most important things because if there is no sound, there’s no music, there’s no microphone and the class really depends on the clarity of the sound. People don’t really remember what you do, but people always remember how you made them feel. That’s the philosophy we like to implement he

UK - LED walls, IMAG screens, and holographic projections elevated Lana Del Rey’s five-date summer stadium tour across the UK and Ireland, delivering a “theatrical and emotionally charged spectacle,” powered by Hippotizer Media Servers.

Phil White of nlitedesign LTD specified and supplied two Hippotizer Tierra+ MK2 and two Boreal+ MK2 Media Servers in a primary and backup configuration for the stadium shows. The tour stopped at major venues, including Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, and two sold-out nights at London’s Wembley Stadium.

“The initial brief called for a three-part stage LED wall and IMAG screens, but we quickly expanded that to include a projection surface, holographic projections, and downstage wing LED screens on either side of the stage,” explained White, who has collaborated with Lana Del R

Italy - Sitting some 50km south of Pisa and set in the Tuscan countryside, the Teatro del Silenzio was designed by architect Alberto Bartalini using a natural amphitheatre adjacent to Andrea Bocelli’s home-town of Lajatico. Produced by City Sound & Events, recent shows by the celebrated Italian tenor marked the 20th anniversary of this performance space.

Lighting designer Alberto Negri, who used Ayrton Mamba, Domino S and Cobra fixtures in his design, explains how they fitted into the production which was adapted to maximise the location’s singular beauty: “The production and I aimed to minimise the visual impact of the technical setup – since the audience enters as early as the afternoon, the landscape must remain the protagonist until showtime. We reduced the use of tower structures to a minimum and prioritised floor-level lighting positions an

Brazil - The 2025 edition of the Tardezinha tour celebrates the tenth anniversary of one of Brazil’s most popular live music projects, created and led by Thiaguinho, and stands as one of the most ambitious productions in the country’s entertainment calendar.

Across 26 shows in Brazil and several international stops in Lisbon, Miami, Sydney and Luanda, the tour presents samba and pagode classics from the 1990s and 2000s to tens of thousands of fans in an in-the-round (360-degree) stage format that both enhances the visual impact and significantly increases the technical demands for audio reinforcement.

São Paulo-based Gabisom Audio Equipment is supplying the complete sound system, with a touring inventory of 172 Outline enclosures, including 64 GTO C-12, 64 Superfly, 32 DBS 18-2 subwoofers, and 12 Mantas 28. All the Superfly cabinets are

UK - Over 200,000 people attended Glastonbury 2025, while 21m tuned into the BBC’s coverage of the festival, plus the untold millions more who engaged on social media. Tim Fawkes was mindful of both when he ran the show he designed for The Prodigy, as the rave-dance masters closed out the proceedings on Sunday evening at The Other Stage.

“Finding a good balance between the live and TV audience is always a challenge, especially at a festival like this,” said Fawkes, who has been associated with The Prodigy since 2012, first as a tech, and for the past eight years, as their designer. After all, some of the most intense looks that stir the passion of live audiences might not translate well on TV and computer screens.

Multiple features in the Strike V helped Fawkes achieve the desired balance at Worthy Farm. “The Strike V was a great choice,” h

USA - From 21 June to 3 August, Magik Theatre brought to life an adaptation of the New York Times bestselling book Dragons Love Tacos using a variety of Mega-Lite luminaires. This carefully crafted production tells an adventure in which the audience learns the “do’s and don’ts” of what kinds of tacos to serve dragons - a sizzling story full of fiery fun for the entire family.
