Europe - Drummer turned audio engineer Ross Rothero-Bourge heads up live mixing for The UK Drum Show and The Europe Drum Show, the music festival-meets-trade shows held in Liverpool and Friedrichshafen. He is also head studio engineer at Cube Recording in Cornwall.

Most recently, he’s been on tour with Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. Ross has also worked with Tom Meighan, co-founder of high-energy British rockers Kasabian. His microphones of choice are the Audix D6 and D6X on kick and bass-centric sources, SCX25A as drum overheads, the OM7 handheld as vocal mic, and the PDX720 and PDX520 as versatile studio workhorses.

“I’ve just been out on the road with Phil Campbell, the guitarist from Motörhead,” says Ross. “Even after all these years, Phil has that unmistakable rock’n’roll presence, and the fans were loving e

Columbia - Karol G’s record-breaking Mañana Será Bonito stadium tour featured a high level of sonic precision thanks to front-of-house engineer John Buitrago. With months of travel and dozens of performances, the tour demanded not just accuracy, but resilience from the equipment it used. To account for these needs, a variety of solutions from DPA Microphones were chosen by Buitrago to capture the energy of the show without compromising the authenticity of the music.

The mic setup was as dynamic as the performance itself. Horns were outfitted with DPA 4099 Instrument Mics - high SPL models for the trumpet and sax and low SPL for the flute - to deliver crisp, isolated tones on a B-stage nearly 80ft from the main PA system, surrounded by the acoustical chaos and crowd energy of stadium reverberation in the massive venues, which hosted upwards of 10

UK - The Lost Estate’s latest production, Paradise Under the Stars, transports audiences to 1950s Cuba; 58th Street immerses them in 1930s New York; and The Great Christmas Feast invites guests into the home of Charles Dickens on Christmas Eve, 1843.

For many years, The Lost Estate has collaborated with lighting designer Peter Small and production electrician James Smellie to bring these ambitious visions to life. Together, they appointed White Light (WL) to deliver the lighting fixtures and technical expertise required to realise these productions.

“It’s not just about installing a show,” explains James. “It’s about installing a world, and one that feels real, responsive, and alive.”

Working in unconventional spaces presents various challenges. With no existing infrastructure, every light, cable, and

Slovenia - Basilica Brezje and St. Jernej’s Church recently enlisted the help of Renkus-Heinz’s UBX loudspeakers to ensure visitors can enjoy improved speech intelligibility and clear audio.

Experienced acoustic engineer and project manager Mitja Borko took on the challenge to transform the sound in both venues, with a goal of enhancing clarity, increasing quality and lessening reverberation. After thoroughly testing a range of loudspeakers, the UBX Series UBX8 100V passive column loudspeaker from Renkus-Heinz was chosen. MTD Electronics, a Renkus-Heinz partner in Slovenia, handled the distribution of loudspeakers in both churches.

The UBX8 offers the sound quality and accurate beam-steering technology of Renkus-Heinz’s flagship Iconyx loudspeakers in a compact passive column, making it suitable for aesthetically sensitive buildings that still

USA - From 19-21 September, the twin cities of Bristol, Tennessee–Virginia once again lit up for the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, transforming historic Main Street into a three-day celebration of Americana, bluegrass, country, folk, and rock.

Born from the legendary 1927 Bristol Sessions, the festival is recognised by many as the birthplace of country music, and this year’s edition carried that heritage forward with performances that drew thousands to the streets where two states meet.

Sound was a defining part of the experience, and 2025 marked a special milestone for dBTechnologies. While the brand’s systems have supported multiple stages at the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in past years, this edition brought something entirely new: the worldwide debut of the VIO W12T stage monitors.

USA - The Columbus district of Indiana is known as the architectural capital of America’s Midwest, housing a clutch of modernist buildings.

A good example of this high art is St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, constructed in 1988, and described as ‘an architectural masterpiece’. But for all its aesthetic beauty, delivering an evenly-distributed sound through the sanctuary to the 750 congregants - sat in a series of rising levels of concentric, but irregular circles - had proved historically difficult before the adoption of a Martin Audio line array.

Tasked with masterminding a sustainable PA upgrade, Alex Moon, director of engineering at the locally-based Force Tech, undertook a site survey. He immediately noted the asymmetric and non-aligned interior, with the sanctuary set around a central section flanked by two raked seating wings. He recognised

Austria - Runimation Studios, a creative production company based in Berwang, has redefined its creative and technical capabilities through the addition of Absen’s PR 1.9 LED panels.

Offering services in film production, motion control systems and most recently virtual production, Runimation Studios has become a specialist in high-quality tabletop product shoots often involving fluid dynamics and reflective materials. The company found that traditional backdrop methods such as printed canvases and physical set builds were ineffective at achieving the desired results. Greenscreen was also not an option as this does not work on reflective or translucent surfaces.

These traditional approaches were proving time-consuming, lacking in flexibility and often caused glare or low contrast from flat-looking backgrounds. Therefore, Runimation Studios sought a

UK - Lana Del Rey played stadia across England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales this summer, marking her debut as a UK & Ireland stadium headliner. An additional second Wembley Stadium show led to her becoming the biggest selling touring solo artist of 2025 in the UK.

How her sound was conveyed was down to a team of mixers, engineers and techs, supported by audio vendor, Sound Image, which has worked with tour manager Emily Holt across Lana’s shows for years. “I am so lucky,” says Emily. “We’ve got an amazing team who go above and beyond, and my suppliers have been with me for so long now. A key factor in that is good communication, it’s so important on any tour, and our team is great at explaining to Lana certain things which will make her feel more comfortable, things to expect in each venue, so that she will be in the right headspace. Germany - In July, Duisburg’s Wedau Stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2025 FISU World University Rhine-Ruhr Games. Built in 1921 and with a capacity of 31,500, the stadium hosted over 9,000 athletes from more than one 150 competing countries. The Games are the largest congregation of sporting elite after the Olympics. This year, venues were used across the Rhine-Ruhr area from Bochum, Essen, Mülheim An Der Ruhr, Hagen as well as Berlin and Duisburg itself.

Lighting designer Arkin Atacan had already experienced working with some of the team from the Rhine-Ruhr Games before they invited him to work on the full design production for the opening and closing ceremonies. “The ceremony events have evolved enormously in the last decade and I was excited to get involved in this,” he says.

Bahrain - Arch Hotel Bahrain partnered with Masterpiece LLC and Harman Professional Solutions to deploy a full-scale audio system anchored by JBL, Crown, BSS, Soundcraft, and AKG technologies. The upgrade supports the hotel group’s latest club concept, designed to engage a younger demographic with immersive, high-impact sound.

As a prominent player in Bahrain’s hospitality sector, Arch Hotel operates multiple properties across the region. The AV team, led by senior sound engineer Ajeesh KP, selected a comprehensive range of Harman Professional products for the new space.

“Based on my extensive experience with various brands, I can confidently say that my experience with Harman Professional audio products has been exceptional,” said Ajeesh. “This positive track record was a primary reason why, when our management planned to launch a new club

The Netherlands - The band Kane made a powerful return to the stage in 2024/2025, entertaining fans across the Netherlands with a series of memorable live shows. Central to the visual impact of the tour was a bold and dynamic lighting design – brought to life almost entirely using Highlite products.

The lighting setup was supplied by HighliteRent, commissioned by ARF&YES, and featured a robust selection of fixtures designed to deliver both power and precision. The touring rig included: 20 x Infinity iW-1941 RDM, 56 x Showtec Stage Blinder Flex Blaze, 10 x Infinity Raccoon S420/4 and 36 x Infinity Raccoon P14/4.

During their show at Park City Live in Heerlen, the main stage also featured a fixed installation using 22 x Infinity Furion H402, six Infinity Furion P602 and six Infinity Furion S602.

The lighting design was created by Jarmo de

USA/Europe - Soft field light has long been delivered through classic Fresnel fixtures, but with the industry’s shift to LED technology, designers have sometimes found themselves missing the vintage look that Fresnels brought to the stage. When it comes to achieving that more poignant feel, award-winning lighting designer Paul ‘Arlo’ Guthrie often turns to Elation’s Fuze Wash 500.

“I love that the Fuze Wash 500 has a Fresnel lens, which is a look I’ve really missed since the shift to LED wash fixtures,” Guthrie shares. “I love having a homogenised soft light look right at the source which feels mildly nostalgic.”

The Fuze Wash 500 is a full-spectrum LED Fresnel moving head that emulates the signature look of a traditional Fresnel.

In 2025, Guthrie has used it on three high-profile productions: Finneas’ For Cryin’ Out Lou

The Netherlands - Based in Domburg, Pulse Audio Video recently completed a significant audio upgrade at the Hotel De Zeevaartschool in Vlissingen on the country’s south-west coast. Located on the town's promenade, the beachfront Hotel De Zeevaartschool is housed in a former nautical college.

As part of the audio transformation, the hotel required a solution that could deliver both background music in its dining areas and provide for events including parties and other gatherings.

The Optimal Audio system installed by Pulse AV features multiple zones equipped with the company’s Cuboid 8 two-way, full-range 8” loudspeakers, complemented by low-profile Sub 10 subwoofers. The compact nature of the Sub 10 means that they can be discreetly integrated into seating areas. For extra power during parties and other events, the Cuboid 8 speakers can be enha

Australia - The Cat Empire brought their new studio album, Bird in Paradise, to life on stage this August and September.

Melbourne-based Atlas Studios, comprising Matt Jones and Thomas Herterich, delivered an original lighting design on a limited budget.

“We have always been given a lot of free rein with The Cat Empire,” commented Jones. “Among ourselves, however, we wanted to deliver a design that was different from the other designs we had done for them in the past.”

The design that Atlas Studios needed to create was a touring package that could be easily toured and fit into a wide range of venues around Australia. The touring package design they settled on needed to meet the usual common criteria for many Australian touring bands - it had to be budget-friendly, easily accessible in all states around Australia, and it neede

Hungary - Budapest was energised into a canvas of drama, colour, excitement, and storytelling in one of Europe’s finest mixed-media spectaculars to celebrate its National Day on 20 August. The 35-minute timecoded show involved monumental projection, lasers, lighting, drone shows and a massive firework display over the Danube.

Visual Europe Group (VEG) was the event’s main technical supplier, providing sound, lighting, lasers, video walls, projection mapping, and a large-scale drone show for this extensive main city centre site along both sides – Buda and Pest – of the river.

Robe moving lights, iBolts, iFortes and iForte LTXs, once again played a significant role in illuminating four key architectural elements – the 118m-wide Hungarian Parliament Building, the Hungarian National Gallery, the Széchenyi Chain Bridge and Elisabeth Bridge.

US - One of the most keenly anticipated follow-up movies this autumn is Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. In this mockumentary comedy film, again directed by Rob Reiner, the band reunites after a 15-year break for one final concert.

As the action moves to New Orleans, it is for this concert - which took place at the City’s Lakefront Arena - that vastly experienced lighting designer Mike Baldassari and his programmer Mike Appel, charged 24 of GLP’s original JDC1 hybrid strobes with performing a multiplicity of roles, including setting a colour palette specific to each of the iconic songs.

The convergence of concert and film disciplines is familiar territory for Baldassari, who can cite theatre work, including Broadway, concert touring (Neil Young and Alice in Chains) and a large portfolio of film and television work - including Rock of Ag

Europe - Follow-Me has played a crucial role in the lighting design for Diana Ross's Sacred Memories Tour with its Follow-Me 3D system. The spectacular production saw the artist accompanied by a grand symphony orchestra during her summer 2025 appearances in the UK and Europe, with performances featuring classic hits across prestigious arena venues.

The tour presented technical challenges, requiring a lighting design that could complement both the intimate connection between Diana Ross and her fans, while delivering the production values expected from such a performer.

The production team created a concept for arena touring that would feature enhanced production design, integrated video and scenic elements, and would accommodate a full symphony orchestra. Lighting designer Ben M Rogers, working alongside David Horner of Visual Connection, cho

USA - For her first-ever arena tour, Grammy-winning artist Kali Uchis wanted to give fans not only a visually stunning show, but also an intimate and immersive sonic experience. To meet the challenge, Sound Image, a Clair Global brand, partnered with Uchis’ touring crew to design a JBL Professional VTX loudspeaker system that delivered clarity, impact and consistency across large-scale venues.

The jump to a full-scale arena tour marked a significant leap of faith for Uchis and her longtime FOH engineer Danny Muñoz, who had guided her sound since her earliest club performances. To meet the scale of these venues, Sound Image deployed a powerful JBL Professional system comprising of 72 VTX A12 line array loudspeakers, 52 VTX A8 loudspeakers for 270-degree hangs and front-fills, 24 flown VTX S28 subwoofers, and 16 ground-stacked VTX B28 subwoofers. Czech Republic - L-Acoustics L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound technology was deployed by Czech certified partner Pro Music across two sold-out nights at Prague's O₂ Arena this May. The sound supplier was Pink Panther, a major Czech touring company and L-Acoustics K2 partner. Queenie Relived: The Philharmonic delivered sonic integration to 30,000 fans.

Since 2006, Queenie have earned international recognition for their uncompromising authenticity, performing more than 1,400 concerts worldwide, including seven previous sold-out O₂ Arena shows, appearances at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and even Queen Elizabeth II’s official celebration. But collaborating with the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava presented their biggest technical challenge yet.

"Traditional stereo reinforcement would have forced us to choose either the orchestra gets buried under the

Hungary - This summer, Hungary’s much-loved Bánkitó Festival signed off with HK Audio at its side. The alternative gathering - long celebrated for blending music, art, and activism - closed its 16-year run between 9-13 July at Lake Bánk, leaving audiences with memorable performances powered by the Cosmo line array system.

Bánkitó has stood out for its eclectic lineup ever since its beginnings, with this year featuring Csaknekedkislány, Carson Coma, 30Y, Co Lee and Sisi. The main stage featured Hungary’s first and largest Cosmo deployment; combining C10 and C6 modules in a mixed array, supported by HK Audio subs, to deliver clean, even coverage across the unique site.

“Cosmo works out of the box really well and we fine-tuned things together with Event Studio and Eurhythmics in just under half an hour,” says Karel Noon, application suppor

UK - Allen & Heath’s dLive was at the centre of Mercury Prize-shortlisted and Brit-Award-nominated Barry Can’t Swim’s headline show at All Points East in Victoria Park, London. Supplied by Patchwork London, the audio package covered front-of-house and monitors, with a fully networked system providing flexibility and seamless integration across all positions.

At FOH, engineer Greg Smart mixed on a dLive DM0 MixRack with an S5000 control surface, paired with a DX168 expander for outboard integration. Monitor engineer Jane Datony mixed the band on a DM48 MixRack and S3000 surface, with additional monitor engineer Med Rann covering the orchestra on a DM48 and dLive S5000. The audio rig for the show made the most of Allen & Heath’s extensive I/O options, with three DX168 expanders dotted across the stage.

Brazil - For years, technical staff at the Comunhão Cristã Abba, a 3,500-capacity evangelical church in southern Brazil, had been considering replacing their underperforming PA system. But when Solid State Logic’s Brazilian distribution partner introduced them to an SSL Live, they soon realised the issue wasn’t the loudspeakers - it was the mixing desk.

Now equipped with an SSL Live L200 Plus at FOH and an L100 Plus at monitors, the church has experienced a significant uplift in audio quality, clearly noticed by both the technical team and the congregation.

Anderson Marcelino, chief engineer at Abba, had been expecting better clarity and headroom from the PA system. “But during the SSL Live demo, arranged by João Wesley Digigov - CEO of long-time AV partner JWD Audiovisual - we immediately noticed more SPL and improved system response. Bu

Sweden - Jonathan Rikner used the Chauvet Professional Colorado PXL Bar 16 when lighting Swedish hip-hop powerhouse Hov1.

“The original idea for this show was to be able to build rooms of light with emotions,” explained Rikner of NCOAB Productions. “I chose the PXL bar for this reason - it has a nice uniform light output, which really can confine a space. That was in the concept phase, later when I had the rig out for the first time, I played around with different looks and expressions. That’s when I saw that it makes a really nice effect to alternate between horizontal and vertical bars.”

After experimenting with this design concept on different Hov1 shows, Rikner rolled out a full-fledged version of his vision for Hov1’s Farewell Show at Gärdet Stockholm. The record-setting crowd of 52,236 (the previous record was held by Meta
