Canada - Last week marked a major moment for Toronto’s live music scene as Vybz Kartel took the stage in the city for the first time. Presented by OVO Sound, the performance drew a full house of fans eager over three sold-out nights to see one of Jamaica’s most influential artists make his Canadian debut.

The high-energy show was supported by a full Adamson loudspeaker system, delivering clear, powerful coverage across the venue; Clair Global provided full audio support. The system was managed by systems engineering and crew chief Valdrian Sulejmani, with mixing duties handled by Demetrius Moore and Aaron Booth.

The system included 21 VGt per side for mains; 32 E119 (end-fire) per side; 15 VGt per side for outfill; eight CS10 for front-fill; and three S10n / four E119 per side for side-fill.

Now in its 25th year, the event takes place at the Espace Culturel l'Escale in St Genis les Ollières to the west of Lyon and is well established as a major part of the city’s vibrant music scene.

Taking place over five nights in May, Changez d’Air 2025 saw performances from Shawn Jobin, Moonfruits, Delgres, Barkanan, Nô Brigant, Ofé, Emma Peters, Sam Sauvage, Danilo and others, in a venue that called for a powerful PA system which wouldn’t take up a lot of space.

Local event technology company MKplus had recently taken delivery of some new Nexo P18s, taking their total inventory of Nexo speakers to more than 200. “The sound engineers and artists were very impressed with what this ‘smal

Brazil - The 2024 political biographical drama I’m Still Here (Portuguese: Ainda Estou Aqui), directed by Walter Salles, quickly established itself as a landmark achievement for Brazilian cinema as the first-ever Brazilian-produced film to win an Academy Award, capturing the Oscar for Best International Feature Film.

The success of the film was underpinned by its dedication to period-authentic, cinematic sound led by production sound mixer Laura Zimmermann, who earned the 2025 Brazilian Film Academy’s Grande Otelo Award (Best Sound) for her work on the film. Zimmermann relied on an extensive kit of Lectrosonics Wireless products, including SMQV, SSM, LMB and HMa transmitters, and DSR4, SRc, DCR822 and DSQD receivers to capture the project's uncommon audio requirements.

France - Marc Brissonnet, technical director of the L’Eden multi-performance venue, led the way in the initiative to convert it to an all-LED system, inaugurated in 2018 by the City of Saint-Jean-d’Angély. The actual process started in late 2024 when the theatre installed eight Ovation Rêve E-3 colour rendering ellipsoidal fixtures, and 10 Ovation Rêve F-3 colour rendering Fresnels from Chauvet Professional.

As a multi-disciplinary house, the performance venue hosts a wide variety of productions, and Marc acknowledges that initially some touring companies were hesitant to perform under LED lights.

“Some companies came in with preconceived notions - concerns about colour rendering, intensity, or beam quality,” said Marc. “But once they saw what the Rêve units could do, most of those doubts disappeared. LED technology has come a long way,

UK - The Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh sits at the heart of the city, welcoming over 100,000 yearly visitors. Home to the Lyceum Theatre Company for over 60 years, it stages a variety of performances from classic drama and contemporary plays to comedy and musicals.

Along with the historic architecture went an ageing sound system and an upgrade was needed to ensure the iconic venue could continue to meet the demands of modern productions. EM Acoustics’ Reference Series was chosen to deliver ‘precise, high-quality audio, whatever the performance’.

Ian Gibson, head of sound & AV at the Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh, spent several years planning the upgrade, and has led the eventual implementation of the new system.

“The theatre’s last major refurbishment was back in the mid-nineties, with no ongoing replacement or renewal of the

UK - For its 2025 season, English Touring Opera (ETO) is presenting The Elixir of Love and The Rape of Lucretia in repertory, touring a diverse range of venues across the UK. Supporting this ambitious tour is White Light (WL), providing technical expertise and equipment to realise the creative vision of lighting designer Jamie Platt and production electrician Joe Kirk.

Jamie’s approach to lighting opera is deeply rooted in musical storytelling. “In opera, the narrative unfolds as much through musical leitmotifs as through sung text,” he explains. “Lighting becomes a second layer of narrative. I can shift the look of the stage simply because of an oboe or a violin.” This sensitivity is vividly expressed in The Elixir of Love, where a pivotal aria sees the lighting transform to reflect Nemorino’s emotional world. “We le

Canada - Lighting designer Michael ‘Herk’ Herkimer of HLX experienced a slight career epiphany when lead singer Raine Maida, of popular Canadian alt-rockers Our Lady Peace (OLP), briefed him ahead of the band’s 2025 Canadian tour.

Raine asked if Herk could possibly look at a link to a 2013 Nine Inch Nails touring show video from the Staples Centre in LA – among his inspirational sources. Herk has admired NIN designs for many years. He took this and other elements as a starting point and produced a a look and original style for the OLP30 tour, which celebrated 30 years as a band.

Robe Forte and MegaPointe moving lights were prominent on the lighting rig, with six of the 50 x Fortes running on three RoboSpot Base Stations, all supplied by rental vendor Soundbox.

This was Herk’s first time working with OLP. He was offered the gig when

Germany - The VILCO Convention Centre in Bad Vilbel, just north of Frankfurt, opened in 2023 adjacent to the historic Kurhaus - a renowned spa resort dating from 1927. The modern facility features a Great Hall with 10m ceilings and adaptable configurations that can transform from a single large event space to multiple smaller venues through movable walls and adjustable grandstands.

The venue's striking interior showcases over 15,000sq.m of eucalyptus veneer alongside acoustic-optimized panels, creating a warm yet sophisticated atmosphere that connects seamlessly with the adjacent spa gardens.

This architectural versatility demanded an equally adaptable sound system capable of delivering quality audio for everything from corporate events to concerts by touring artists like Manfred Mann, Alphaville and Sisters of Mercy.

USA - Officially, Hudson Westbrook’s 26-city Texas Forever Fall Tour, which began 4 September in Cleveland, is supposed to conclude 21 November in St. Petersburg. But Brock McNeely, the artist’s lighting designer, has a slightly different take on things.

“Really when you think about it, the touring never stops,” he said as he prepared for another fall show. Earlier this year, Westbrook added 29 dates to his already packed summer tour, which crisscrossed the USA - and there’s a promise of more to come.

This heavy touring schedule can present a challenge for a lighting and production crew. So too can the wide variety of venues that Westbrook performs in. “This tour has been a really unique experience, considering the speed at which Hudson has exploded in popularity over the past year,” said McNeely. “One day we could be playing

UK - New York design group Yellow Studio unveiled its newest large-scale installation Within Water, at the 2025 River of Light Festival in Liverpool. Taking place from 24 October to 2 November, the festival transformed the city’s waterfront into a walking trail of illuminated artworks and installations by national and international artists. Yellow Studio’s installation for this year’s edition is inspired by bioluminescence, exploring the relationship between water, light and human interaction.

Commissioned by Culture Liverpool, this year's installation was inspired by the festival's theme The Science of Light. Through a grid of programmable lights embedded beneath the water’s surface, the installation mimics the gentle glow and movement of bioluminescent algae, creating an illuminated current that shifts in colour and inten

France - Les Salles du Carrousel, housed beneath the glass pyramid of the Louvre in the heart of Paris, offers 6,635m² of modular interior space to cater for events of all types and sizes. As the site operator, Viparis has relied for many years on the expertise of Magnum – one of France’s leading audiovisual providers – to deliver high-end AV solutions. When the time came to renew the audio systems, Magnum selected the new CCL (Compact Cardioid Line Array) system from d&b audiotechnik to elevate the venue’s audio offering whilst respecting both Viparis’ and Magnum’s stringent sustainability criteria.

“The previous system, while functional, was over 10 years old, and starting to show signs of wear and tear,” explained Eduard Dubus, who heads up the technical team at Magnum. “We were looking to replace it with something more modern, and

USA - When a passenger vessel moored at 1800 N Harbor Dr in San Diego for a floating party named Noise Complaint, the sound was carefully engineered. With an audience capacity of 1,200 and a layout combining open-air energy up top with a more intimate environment below, the production team leaned on dBTechnologies to deliver sound reinforcement across both decks of the ship.

The event fully utilised the vessel’s two-deck configuration, with crowds moving between an exposed upper deck and an enclosed middle deck. The upper deck served as the primary performance space, deploying Opera Reevo 212 loudspeakers as mains, supported by Opera Reevo 210 out-fills and VIO S118R subwoofers, with additional Opera Reevo 210 cabinets on poles as DJ monitors. The middle deck featured DVX D12 loudspeakers paired with a single S618 subwoofer, maintaining clarity and balance

Germany - At this year’s IAA Mobility in Munich, Mercedes-Benz showcased its brand universe in the open space of the Apothekenhof (Apothecary Courtyard) of the Residenzhöfe, a museum complex. The team from TLD Planungsgruppe was responsible for the technical planning, implementation and lighting design. High-performance LED systems from GLP, including the KNV Cube and the new JDC Burst 1, were at the heart of the presentation.

In addition to the freely accessible open space in Munich’s city centre, Mercedes-Benz also had a presence at the IAA Summit on the exhibition grounds, where the brand’s technical expertise was the focus. The open space, on the other hand, emphasised emotion, design and staging – and thus light as a central design element.

Early in the design phase, it became clear that replicating the distinctive radiator grille of th

France - When Collectif La Bringue and Minuits took over Nantes’ 9,000-capacity Zenith Arena for Calling For Rave, they made history. This was the first time the venue, a cornerstone of France’s touring circuit, had hosted an all-night techno event. For audio, the team turned to long-time collaborator Combeuil Audio and its Funktion-One sound systems.

“Zenith Nantes is a major institution for entertainment production,” said Esteban Haie of Collectif La Bringue and 99dB. “Our goal was to deconstruct the venue’s image and create a true rave experience in a concert hall environment. Funktion-One has been with us since the beginning, so it was the obvious choice.”

Working with La Bringue’s production team, Combeuil Audio designed a system to deliver powerful, coherent coverage across the vast arena. Suspended Evo 7T arrays with F
