Mexico - Tucked into a quiet residential block of Colonia Condesa, in Mexico City, OWL Hidden Bar inhabits what was once the storage space of a former restaurant. At just 102sq.m, its discreet footprint captures the spirit of a hidden bar – secrecy, intimacy, and the thrill of discovery.

Inspired by 1920s speakeasies, the project reimagines Art Deco geometry through a contemporary lens. A monolithic brass bar anchors the space, functioning as both centrepiece and stage. Around it, illuminated textiles and warm finishes balance brass, wood, concrete, and fabric, setting the scene for a night that shifts seamlessly between calm conversation and lively music.

USA - Located in downtown Miami, Gale Hotel Miami is a 51-story architectural landmark offering a blend of boutique hotel comfort, upscale condo living, and culinary haven, complemented by a wellness centre complete with a spa. Guests can indulge in a variety of dining experiences on the 9th floor, offering vistas of Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline.

Gale Hotel Miami hired Interlink Group to design the audio systems for the two restaurants on the 1st floor and the three restaurants on the 9th floor. Interlink, in turn, partnered with Designer Digital Systems to design the sound system, build the racks, and programme the system. UK - During the PLASA Show in London, the European associations AFIAL, APESA, AVITA, Event Confederation, PLASA, PSA and VPLT announced their intention to join forces internationally.

The group represents manufacturers, distributors, dealers, system integrators, production companies, professional end-users and technical service providers involved in live events.

The new alliance (Entertainment Technology Industry Alliance - ETIA) offers a platform for exchange, pools expertise and resources, and provides a strong voice in European legislative and regulatory processes. The associations represent six European countries: Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom.

Europe - Drake is getting his steps in. On his current $ome $pecial $hows 4 U Tour, co-headlined with Party Next Door and currently on its European leg through mid-September, the show features a stage which forms a ring around the standing room audience, with walkways running along the long end of the floor and larger stages at opposite ends of the arena. Drake typically performs across all the stages during a show. It’s a lot to keep up with, but the pair of DiGiCo Quantum852 consoles on an Optocore network that also supports three SD-Racks and one SD-MiNi Rack – all supplied by tour vendor Eighth Day Sound, a Clair Global brand – are more than up to the task.

Chile - When the Chilean Army inaugurated the Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Our Lady of Mount Carmel) in Santiago de Chile in July 2025, the event marked the consecration of the country’s first institutional church, serving as a spiritual home for service members and their families. With its soaring laminated wood arches, 14 stained-glass windows, and expanded 300-seat capacity, the new church was a symbol of faith and national identity, but it also presented a major acoustic challenge.

With a reverberation time of 4.5 seconds, even the most solemn words of the liturgy quickly became blurred, leaving parishioners disconnected from key moments of worship. To address this, Chilean HK Audio partner ProSound and distributor SETESA designed and installed a new sound system built around the HK Audio SI Series P10j.

UK - St Michael’s Abbey is a small monastic community in Hampshire where Benedictine values and worship have been observed and preserved since the Abbey’s foundation in 1895. Living a traditional life of prayer, work and study, the community of monks at Saint Michael’s welcomed a recent upgrade of the Abbey’s AV, IT and security systems, a project led by specialist systems integrators Whitwam AVI.

Brazil - Powersoft’s energy-efficient Duecanali amplifier platform is providing the audio backbone for a wide range of performances and community events across Sesc São Paulo’s network, with more than 100 Duecanali 1604 amplifiers now installed throughout Brazil’s most populous state.

The multi-site programme has been steered by designer and consultant Reinaldo Pargas, whose company, AVM Projetos e Consultoria em Tecnologia, has been working with Sesc since 2003 on projects that balance the organisation’s strict technical standards with the real-world needs of touring artists and educators.

Belgium - Lokerse Feesten is a 10-day festival of music, food, and community, which takes place in the Belgian city of Lokeren in August. This year saw the 50th edition of the event which is now one of the country’s premier festivals, having hosted a who’s-who of international artists of every musical genre.

This year’s event saw appearances from The Pet Shop Boys, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sex Pistols, and Iggy Pop, and was attended by more than 100,000 visitors. Studio Technologies is debuting the Model 394 GPI Interface and the 395 GPO Interface for the first time at IBC 2025. UK - Wharfedale Pro has welcomed Han Luis Cera to its team. Based in the UK, Han joins as application and solutions manager strengthening the Wharfedale Pro international team.

Han has extensive experience as a live sound engineer, primarily FOH and monitor engineering, as well as being the module leader in both digital production implementation and advanced mixing techniques. He is also a successful musician, composer and producer, whose work was featured in various BBC nature documentaries.

UK - Gary Barlow’s 2025 Songbook tour visits a range of venue sizes and styles across the UK and Ireland so, for engineers, having a constant and reliable mixing console to work from is a necessity. Skan PA, a Clair Global company, supplied two DiGiCo Quantum 7s, allowing engineers to share stage racks, saving space on the truck and delivering peace of mind.

UK - The winners of the 2025 PLASA Awards for Innovation were announced last night at PLASA Show, currently taking place at Olympia, London.

Run in association with LSi, the PLASA Awards for Innovation are among the industry’s most respected accolades, shining a spotlight on pioneering technology that advances safety, efficiency and performance through fresh approaches, inventive engineering, and sustainable design.

This year, 37 products were put forward, with the judges ultimately recognising 7 innovations. The panel also decided to present the Gold Award, which recognises a product that is a true game-changer for the industry.

The judging team for 2025 brought together 11 independent and impartial technical experts from across the sector, chaired once again by chartered engineer and LSi columnist, James Eade.
