UK - As in previous years, a range of fascinating historic lighting and sound equipment is on show, from a Thorn Q-File to a Vari-Lite VL1 to a DHA Pitching Digital Light Curtain to a PanCan to a Revox which those who’ve never had to do it can use to try their hand at old-school manual tape editing!
Classic Gear Live also has a dark area this year, filled with the magic of psychedelic projection using Aldis and Optikinetics projectors – with the ability to try your hand at the magic of liquid light shows, and with theatrical projection with some of the remarkable range of Strand effects discs on show.
Also on show: classic lighting plans, the hand-drawn light plots for such legendary shows as the original Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Boulevard and Sweeney Todd, plus stencils and pens if you want to get back to a time before CAD!
These plans are beautiful items in their own right, maybe worth of putting on display. So, with the blessing of lighting designers David Hersey, Andrew Bridge, and Ken Billington, to raise some money for the backstage charity Backup Tech, there are large, poster-size versions of these plans for sale. Come take a look, and take one home with you!
And on Tuesday morning, lighting designer Andrew Bridge will be on-stand to talk about his work and dissect and explain the lighting for Phantom based on that plan!
Classic Gear Live is upstairs on the balcony this year, on the right-hand side of the hall, stand K109. You can find the full list of what’s on show at:
