UK - Creative technical event production expert, Hawthorn, has been commissioned by the National Theatre of Scotland to supply lighting for the UK tour of its acclaimed production, The James Plays.

Hawthorn is supplying lighting from its extensive hire range to meet the specification of theatre lighting designer, Philip Gladwell. This comes hot on the heels of Hawthorn's appointment to supply lighting and video equipment for the touring production of Hairspray.

Following critical acclaim and box office success in 2014, The James Plays by Rona Munro, and directed by Laurie Sansom, will undertake a major UK and international tour in 2016, visiting 11 venues across England and Scotland, as well as performing at international festivals in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

USA - Elation's EPT6IP LED video display panel has become the LED screen panel and cross rental panel of choice in the upper northeast. Used on an increasing variety of events, the latest example was 11-12 February when Boston's Fenway Park hosted a big air snowboarding and freeskiing U.S. Grand Prix Tour and International Ski Federation World Tour event.

The Elation EPT6IP panels were used for portrait walls on each side of a large take-off ramp. East Coast Lighting & Production Services, Inc. (ECLPS) supplied the panels for the event, working with Elation rep firm Healy Sales and ECLPS's client Mission Six.

World - Mexican rock pop band Mana recently concluded its Cama Incendiada World Tour with a large complement of Clay Paky Mythos, A.leda B-EYE K10 and K20, and Stormy lighting fixtures adding colour and punch to the global production.

The Cama Incendiada World Tour was the eighth concert tour by the band, which hails from Guadalajara. It was in support of Mana's latest studio album, Cama Incendiada (Burning Bed). The band has earned four Grammy Awards, seven Latin Grammys, five MTV Video Music Awards Latin America and more. No other Latin rock band consistently sells more albums or concert tickets: Mana has sold more than 40m albums worldwide.

USA - Lighting designer Jason Liggett turned to the ease of Elation Professional's new Emotion moving head digital light to project organic looks for a 2016 New Year's Eve performance by American rock band Joe Russo's Almost Dead at the Fillmore in Philadelphia.

"It occurred to me that I needed to have more options to create unique textured looks," Jason explains of his decision to use the new generation digital light. "I needed a video element that was not too literal and could be hidden within our stage and set design. I needed a digital moving light projector that I could control from my console. The Emotion was very easy to drive."

USA - Some of the University of Tennessee's most exemplary students arrived at Legislative Plaza 17 February to share the impact the university has had on their lives at the 10th Annual UT Day on the Hill. Bandit Lites provided the lighting for the event which was coordinated by The UT Office of Government Relations and Advocacy.

Bandit provides these services at no cost as a means of giving back. Bandit set the stage floor with VL 2500s to cover the room with patterns and colors, while GRNLite LED Battens lit the upper balcony walls. UK - When the European premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens came to London, Utopium were on hand to illuminate the red carpet royalty and Nelson's Column.

Thousands of dedicated fans flocked to London to celebrate the latest instalment in the Star Wars franchise, where Stormtroopers and Jedi knights joined the cast and celebrities for the biggest premiere of the year.

It was in Leicester Square that the cast and crew were joined by celebrity guests, as the area around the Empire and Odeon cinemas were transformed into a space-themed venue.

LED lighting from SGM illuminated the entire length of the red carpet, as well as the two cinemas and the stage set where the world's media captured the stars.

Germany - Every year, during Marburg b(u)y Night, Marburg city centre lights up: more than sixty public and private buildings become the stars of the show, and the shops stay open until midnight. The centrepiece of the event this year was the Blickpunkt Schloss project - with lighting up and regular intervals backed with appropriate music. Flashlight Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH dealt with staging the events.

Among the equipment the company chose to use were 39 Clay Paky Mythos units, one grandMA light, one onPC command wing, one 8Port Node onPC and four VPU plus MK2s (video processing units). An MA remote control system was also installed to control the lighting around the castle using tablet computers. The show was pre-programmed with the help of a 3D MA and a 3D model of Marburg castle.

LumenRadio develops, manufactures and sells equipment for wireless radio communication. The products are based on multiple patents, where the basic idea is to enable reliable communication without interference in a world where the available frequency space becomes more and more limited.

LumenRadio's technology is based on "Cognitive Coexistence" where the units scan the frequency spectrum continuously to locate and use free channels. The company has 10 employees and annual revenue of SEK 20 million in 2015.

USA - Martin by HARMAN lighting fixtures were at the centre of the annual Los Angeles holiday special, L.A. Zoo Lights, a not-to-be-missed night time light show extravaganza. Martin MAC Quantum Washes and MAC Quantum Profiles were chosen to provide innovative designs for the event. The fixtures were part of an elaborate water, light and laser show that takes place a few times a day at a vacant sea lion exhibit.

This year's event, both bigger and brighter than last year's, included self-guided tours of an expanded area of the zoo, featuring all-new LED lights, lasers, 3D projections and a musical water-and-light display. Zoo Lights is produced in collaboration with theatrical set designer Gregg Lacy and Bionic League, a production design company known for innovative, large-scale events and stage credits that include Daft Punk, Deadmau5 and Kanye West.

Germany - GLP has taken a major step to boost its domestic sales force in the face of increasing product demand, by recruiting one of its former senior employees.

Dejan Hajdukovic, who had been part of the sales team between 2008-2012, returns as sales manager, and will be based at company HQ in Karlsbad, Germany.

Dejan brings a wide network of contacts, particularly in the lighting design and rental company sectors. Now he will team up with key account manager Oliver Schwendke to undertake responsibility for field sales, largely in the southern part of the country.

Having started his professional career in the hotel and catering industry, he says that lighting had always been a hobby "and in 2008 GLP offered me the opportunity to turn this into a profession".

UK - Blackout has appointed new project manager, Alex Duke, to join its expert team of riggers, February 2016.

As the complete supplier of rigging and drapes to the live events industry, Blackout has recently worked on projects such as the BRIT Awards, the National Television Awards, London International Horse Show and The Sound of Music Live.

Duke has worked for Blackout as a freelancer since 2000 and now joins the team on a permanent basis; overseeing sight visits, quoting, logistics and overall project management. His 18 years of experience in the rigging industry has seen him work on the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony, Les Miserablés Korea, and international theatre productions.

"This is Maddie & Tae's first shot at bringing their own lighting with them out on the road," said Foote, who used eight Nexus 4x4 panels provided by 4Wall Entertainment Lighting. "Maddie & Tae got off to a very fast start, but they're still very new, so the touring details haven't caught up yet. I wanted Nexus, because I needed a rig that could fit into a single trailer. More importantly though, I was looking for something that could create a lot of different looks, as well as something that would play well with the house lights at the different venues on the tour."

Canada - The combination of electronic music, icy décor, powerful architectural projections and a program featuring the best local and international DJs, makes Igloofest at Montreal's Old Port the place to be during January and February each year.

This year, for the 10th edition, 120,000 music lovers braved the harsh Canadian winter for four consecutive weekends, to join the largest outdoor party in Montreal. Lighting designer Karl Gaudreau of design firm 4U2C in Montreal, created the beautiful lighting scenery which, for this particular edition, evolved around a backdrop design element of painted shipping containers, also functioning as shelters for people attending the event.
