UK - Following a long break from the live scene, The Corrs returned to touring in the UK with arena dates in January 2016. The tour supported the release of their latest album, White Light.

For the tour, Henry McGroggan and Ian Calder contacted PRG XL Video to supply lighting and video, having worked with both teams separately in the past. Both worked with the band's new lighting and video designer, Steven Douglas, to satisfy his design brief.

Steven's design was a multi-layer design which featured a shimmering semi-opaque metallic drape forming the backdrop to an array of Orbis-Fly LED spheres. These were used to great effect throughout the show - starting from a flown position above the stage, and then lowering to create a variety of multi-coloured effects including wave patterns.

"The brief from management was very simple, 'clean and theatrical'," said Steven

Belgium - Robe's new Square LED fixture made its European live TV debut on the three shows produced by Flanders' public broadcaster VRT which selected the song to represent Belgium at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) in Stockholm. The 24 active Square fixtures were central to Ignace's scheme and concept for the shows which were staged at AED Studios in Lint, Belgium, in front of a live audience and a huge TV following who tuned in to watched the five final contestants perform their songs before voting on the winner.

Ignace has an architectural background and is known for his intelligent and thoughtful approach to lighting high profile, blockbuster music television shows. He unties all the drama and emotion of the music and the 'moments' on screen and for the live audienc

German artist Andreas Bourani recently toured his Hey tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Bourani's success story started with his song Auf uns (On Us) during the 2014 football World Cup. Timo Martens, Philip Hillers and Nik Evers created the stage, video content and lighting design for the tour.

They chose three grandMA2 light, four MA Network Switch, four MA NPU (Network Processing Unit), two MA 8Port Nodes and 11 x MA Digital Dimmer 12 x 2,3kVA5 for lighting control.

Nik Evers explained the lighting design he realized together with Timo Martens and Philip Hillers. "One task was to light Andreas Bourani and his band perfectly. Besides this we had other considerations. For example, the musicians shouldn't be disturbed by the lighting, and the lighting had to 'complete' and emphasize the stage design. Each lighting system should stand for itself. It was a

UAE - Working with Dynamic Motion, Protec delivered expert video design services and technology including BlackTrax real-time motion tracking at the grand opening ceremony of World Air Games 2015 held at the beachside coastal location of Sky Dive Dubai, UAE in late 2015.

Taking centre-stage, a raised inflatable 6m-wide spherical projection surface was suspended 30m above stage alongside aerial performers suspended on cable lines. Protec placed 15 BlackTrax stringers and five BlackTrax cameras to track the sphere's movement ensuring that video was perfectly aligned. BlackTrax streamed positional information via the high-speed protocol (RTTrPM) to d3 Technologies 4x4 pro servers, which visualised and handled the 3D geometry in real-time throughout the ceremony.

"The coastal wind did play its part in blowing the screen slightly during the ceremony, but with the live tracking

Italy - The fascinating story of Jack Kelly is on stage at the Teatro Nazionale in Milan. It is inspired by the true story of the news boys' strike in 1899, when it was the news boys themselves who sold the papers. They were mostly teenagers who bought the copies from the publishers and then tried to sell them at their own risk: unsold copies were not returned.

Jack Kelly, the charismatic leader of a gang of young messed-up newsies, dreams of better conditions far from the adversities of street life. When the publishing giants raise distribution prices at the expense of the news boys, Jack sees a reason to fight and persuades the young retailers throughout the city to go on strike for their rights.

Disney made a film from the story in the 1990s, which was a box office flop. However, it turned into a cult classic in America when it came out on VHS. Twenty years later, the m

Germany - Sommer Cable knows what it's all about when it comes to good sound: neutrality and musicality. The new hi-fi connection leads of the SC-Stratos line will precisely meet this demand. Moreover, they rely on a heat-dissipating design to ensure a long service life - especially when plugged into power amplifiers, which produce considerable heat also on the input side.

"A lot of budget-priced cables on the market show a noticeable decline in sound after only a short period of time," says Pascal Miguet, product & sales manager at Sommer Cable. "A porous jacket, shrinking insulation or oxidized copper are among the most frequent problems. Our new SC-Stratos line takes a stand for better quality here.

"During the development phase it was important for us to design a product that convinces both sound-wise and in technical respect. The combination of durability and a natura

Lighting integrator and distributor Fairlight BV worked with professional lighting supplier and installer Air Light to create the lighting system at TivoliVredenburg. The line-up of Martin equipment at the venue is nothing short of impressive: 72 MAC Aura

USA - Even with the chill of winter still hanging in the February air, the Music City Centre was a bloom with more than 150 exhibitors of luscious gardens, long sought after antiques and illustrious guest speakers from the design world for the Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville.

The keynote speaker for the multi-day event was Academy Award winning actress and lifestyle maven of GOOP Gwenyth Paltrow. Bandit Lites provided the lighting package for the horticultural happening with Chris Lisle Lighting Design.

Using an array of par cans and lekos with varying lenses, associate designer Erik Parker worked with vendors to learn what aspects of their gardens to enrich with illumination.

"Often the gardeners would have a piece that they would like to stand out, or a vibe that they were going for in their garden, but otherwise very little direction was given," said Parker. "

UK - Lighting designer Jon Smith turned to an Elation Professional lighting package of ACL 360 Bars, Platinum Series moving heads and Cuepix blinders for Texas pop punk band Bowling for Soup's 'How About Another Round' UK Tour in February. The tour, basically an encore tour to the band's farewell tour of two years ago, sold out at every stop with crowds of up to 3,500 fans.

Jon Smith has worked with Bowling for Soup for the last five years, but took the reigns as lighting designer for the first time on this tour. "My idea was to create a pub on stage, an idea that the band really liked," he said. "We used lighting effects and had customized beer barrels that shot out flames. It was a unique set that made for an intimate pub feel." Jon worked with set builder Mair Burgess to put the set together, using local businesses and suppliers to create the touring show.
