Germany - Perched dramatically 454m high in Germany's Harz Mountains, the historic Harzer Bergtheater is an open-air cultural landmark facing extraordinary operational challenges due to its exposed mountain environment. Following a comprehensive five-year renovation, the venue's new management aimed to attract high-calibre performers and expand their summer programming, requiring a professional sound solution to replace previous rental systems.

USA - The near-20,000-capacity Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio features the world’s first installation of GLP’s Mad Maxx CW LED fat-beam searchlights. This will give the Cleveland Cavaliers basketball team and Cleveland Monsters ice hockey team, who share the facility, a dynamic rock’n’roll-style environment to enhance the matchday experience.

The Mad Maxx units were specified by production designer Eric Wade, creative director and vice-president of Dallas, Texas-based Crossfade Design.

Billed as the first true fat-beam LED fixture, with a massive 750mm beam diameter, Mad Maxx’s wide light output matches the beam’s diameter, which is adjustable by a virtual iris, while the colour wheel provides an extra layer of animation. This gives the fixture an imposing presence.

Finland - A destination for beer aficionados, the OLVI Foundation Brewery Museum offers an opportunity to delve into the history and traditions of Finnish beer brewing. Located in Iisalmi – which also happens to be the home of loudspeaker manufacturer Genelec – this is Finland’s only brewery museum open to the public.

At its heart is a new immersive installation titled The Spirit of OLVI. Built into a custom-designed five-sided space, it invites visitors into a multi-sensory experience that uses light, image, vibration, and spatial sound to explore the 145-year history of Finland’s last major independent brewery. The system behind it is entirely bespoke – and is powered by a sophisticated Genelec loudspeaker setup.

In response to a rapidly growing student population and limited campus space, the new dynamic classroom complex, led by Canadian integration partner AVI-SPL in collaboration with Kramer, delivers scalable, flexible and user-friendly learning environments.

With a campus area of 1,600 acres, John Abbott College is an English-language public college located in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, near the western tip of the Island of Montreal. UK - Venue Cymru, North Wales’ largest and most versatile performance venue, has completed a transformative upgrade to its lighting infrastructure, partnering with White Light, a d&b solutions company, to deliver a future-ready, energy-efficient solution that meets the demands of modern touring productions, local performances, and broadcast events alike.

The project, part one funded by Arts Council Wales, and part two funded by the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns initiative, marks a significant step forward for the council-run venue, which hosts everything from West End touring shows and opera to conferences and TV recordings.

Completed in 1926, Providence Park is the oldest facility configured as a soccer-specific stadium for use by an MLS team and is one of the most historic grounds used by any United States professional soccer team.

The Netherlands - A lighting control system from Pharos Architectural Controls is creating an immersive experience for visitors at a new sustainable visitor centre at the heart of the Port of Rotterdam.

Portlantis is home to a permanent, interactive exhibition that brings to life the story of one of the world’s busiest and most innovative ports. The exhibition explores the port’s rich history while looking ahead to its future as it embraces sustainable, low-energy operations.

Comprising five stacked exhibition spaces offering views across the North Sea, the coastline and the port, the exterior of Portlantis is striking. Inside, the exhibits are brought to life with a single-universe Pharos Designer LPC (Lighting Playback Controller), specified by Ata Tech, who delivered the complete lighting and audiovisual solution.

Japan - Expected to welcome more than 20,000 visitors daily until mid-October, World Expo 2025 opened in Osaka in April, with 160 countries showcasing their cultures, crafts, technologies and visions of the future in a series of exhibits.

In addition to more than 250 of its speakers installed in a spectacular visitor experience at the France Pavilion, Geo M10 and P12 systems from Nexo are also installed at Ashita Hiroba in the Osaka-based Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co’s Yoshimoto waraii myraii pavilion, one of 13 exhibits by private companies and organisations at the Expo.

Working with 1 Sound’s UK distributor CUK Group, London-based integrator Tateside brought in a full 1 Sound audio system to enhance the venue’s energy - from relaxed afternoon lounging to busy weekend DJ nights.

USA - The Tykeson Rehearsal Hall at the University of Oregon’s School of Music and Dance is a place where tradition and innovation converge. Built for the Oregon Bach Festival, the hall was designed with meticulous attention to its acoustics, making it ideal for early chamber music performances.

Since 2017 the hall’s analogue AV system served its purpose of capturing student performances and showcasing the work of world-class musicians. But as the school’s reputation grew and its audience expanded far beyond the physical walls of Tykeson Hall, its analogue infrastructure, tied to a single control room, could no longer keep up.

Finland - PPDS has announced the installation of 800 hotel TVs, digital signage, and dvLED walls inside Finland’s advanced business hotel complex, the Clarion Hotel Helsinki Airport.

Located immediately outside Vantaa Airport’s main terminal, the 12-floor multi-purpose Clarion Hotel Helsinki Airport boasts 505 luxury guest rooms, a scenic rooftop cocktail bar, an à la carte restaurant, a gym, and heated outdoor pool.

The hotel also features a 21-room conference centre and plush 1,050-capacity ballroom.

USA - For the owners of Milwaukee live venue The Rave – Joe Balestrieri and Leslie West – the installation of a pair of dBTechnologies VIO rigs is just one of many improvements made to the historic venue.

Since purchasing the property in 1991, restoring the former Eagles Club to its original glory has been a labour of love. “Many cities have iconic venues built in the 20s – Radio City, the Chicago Theatre, the Lyric Opera House, and Fox Theatres. In Wisconsin, this is the largest example of classic 20s architecture," Balestrieri says, adding that restoring the building to create an architecturally spectacular, state-of-the-art venue “was just the right thing to do. Japan - The Nagoya Betsuin of the Shinshu Otani-ha is a historic temple located in Aichi Prefecture’s Nagoya City. Affectionately known as Higashi Betsuin, it has grown into a central place of worship in the Japanese region since its construction in 1632.

As well as hosting Buddhist ceremonies and religious events, the temple is used for exchange events and markets, making it an important meeting place for the local community. However, the building’s distinctive architecture comes with complex audio challenges, including intelligibility in the main hall.

Austria - Prime Studio, one of Europe’s most scenic and technically sophisticated recording destinations, has once again partnered with Van Damme to bring high-spec custom cabling to its latest room: Studio C.

Located in St. Gilgen in the Austrian Alps, Prime Studio is known for its world-class acoustics, rare vintage gear, and surroundings. The studio’s founders, Bjorn Heitzer and Gerhard Buchbauer, previously worked with Van Damme on Studio A, and returned in late 2023 to equip Studio C; a mastering and post-production control room built around legendary Abbey Road EMI TG12345 MK IV and TG12410 consoles.

Both organisations are HQ’d in Brighton, and Penguin’s technical project manager Dylan Thompson says that since all three city centre pubs have their own identity and autonomy, an individual approach was required when it came to specifying audio.
