UK - Now in its 126th year, The Kennel Club’s Crufts Dog Show is world’s largest and most prestigious canine competition. Over its three-day run, the event drew roughly 160,000 people and nearly 22,000 dogs to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) complex in Birmingham. For the main competitions in NEC’s Genting Arena, it was critical that the sound system deliver both clarity and fidelity without adding any visual distraction.
ARB Events was the primary AV provider, with project manager Steve Boote working with sound system designer Neal Allen of Safe Hands Audio on the audio for the arena. They chose the X2 line-array loudspeaker system from the X-Line Advance family by Electro-Voice as the best and most suitable system for the job.
“This was my fourth year working with ARB Events on the system design for Crufts, and it was the best yet,” says Neal Allen.

Argentina - Allen & Heath’s flagship dLive S Class system was selected for a special gig by Argentinean rock band, Airbag, accompanied by an orchestra and staged at the iconic Usina del Arte venue, a converted electrical plant, in the capital, Buenos Aires.
Provided by rental company, Show Room Live, the dLive system comprised the S7000 Surface and DM64 MixRack fitted with Waves SoundGrid networking cards, and was selected by the band’s FOH engineer, Fernando Parra. The system was required to manage live sound reinforcement in the venue, as well as provide redundant multitrack recording and a broadcast feed. AES inputs on the S7000 Surface were used by Parra to connect his favourite outboard equipment.
“I use 64 channels from the MixRack and 8 analogue channels from the Surface to cater for the live FOH feed and provide 80 channels of multitrack recording at

UK - Friends and colleagues have been paying tribute to loudspeaker designer and entrepreneur Stephen Court, one of the pro audio industry’s more colourful characters, who has died following a fall at his West Country home. A dedicated sound man, in a long career – he claimed to be “a few years younger than Mick Jagger” - he worked for the BBC and ITV and some of the biggest names in rock. And he had anecdotes to relate about them all – and the merits or otherwise of their sound systems.
In recent years, he was based at Tavistock Wharf in Devon which he and his wife Angela bought in 2006 and developed into the leading live music venue in the area. The sound system at The Wharf is, not surprisingly, designed and built by Court Acoustics, which was the vehicle for his various system designs for both studios and live applications. Just prior to his passing, he had bee

With the help of Forefront Productions, they set about converting the original school hall into a multipurpose church auditorium. Forefront was contracted to help design and install comprehensive audio, lighting and video systems as well as offer advice on stage construction, venue layout and acoustic treatments.
Whilst church activities account for most of the venue usage, the school also utilises it for assemblies and performances.

Germany - Berlin-based Complete Audio recently took its Martin Audio MLA system out with long-term client, KIZ on the band’s latest tour, Hurra die Welt geht unter (which translates as "Hooray the world is going down”).
André Rauhut’s company has been working with the local politically-based hip-hop band, comprising three MCs and a DJ, since they first set out playing small clubs many years ago. This was their third major tour together - and it was FOH engineer, Rainer Noll, who also happens to be one of Complete Audio’s long-time sound specialists, that specifically requested MLA.
The tour took the band through the established German arena and music hall circuit. Over the years the PA company has built a large database of MLA Venue Files - ranging from hockey arenas to city halls -and this data is available to their techs either online (or via Dropbox). This

Shelter’s general manager, Merijn van den Heuvel, explains the idea behind venue: “To be a clubber’s club, with sound, quality and vibe as top priorities in eve

USA - Just west of Austin, Pedernales Country Club was originally purchased by Willie Nelson in 1979 and opened as a studio in 1981. After a number of years in non-operation, Nelson decided to bring the studio back to life, and the end result was the installation of a 40-input 5088 console from Rupert Neve Designs.
Chief engineer Steve Chadie has worked with the studio since 1995. “The initial discussion about the 5088 was brought up by Buddy Cannon, Willie’s producer. He knew someone in Nashville that suggested we contact Rupert Neve Designs, since they are right there close to us in Wimberley, and the rest is history.”
The modular console is made up of 24 mono input modules with Rupert Neve Designs’ Shelford 5052 mic preamp / EQs for each, plus 8 stereo input modules flanked with Portico 5043 compressors, with another eight 5043s above the master section. “

UK - “Our current count is nine Audient desks,” says Richard Liggins, technical production manager at the University of West London (UWL). “Seven ASP8024s and two ASP4816s, plus a number of ASP510 5.1 monitor controllers and an ASP800,” which puts it in the running for the facility with the most Audient desks in the world.
Most recently, London College of Music (LCM) - part of the UWL - opened Paragon Annex Studio complex, an investment of more than £1m in the development of seven new recording studios, which includes two each of these Audient consoles.
Liggins explains: “Audient desks reflect a very clear design ethic in terms of the signal flow through the desk. We teach audio studio recording from first principles, and that means an understanding of signal flow through a traditional multi-track studio as a base for all other techniques in audio recording.

UK - Sunday 14 May saw the final match at White Hart Lane, home of Tottenham Hotspur, before the ground is demolished to make way for a new stadium in 2018. A victory for Spurs on the day and the atmosphere could not have been more emotional.

Zweck is a season ticket holder and as a fan was happy to help. “What we did was bring in rock and roll companies because this had to be fast and be really classy. Phil Mercer at Unipix provided an additional big screen up on Stageco towers, and all audio came from Britannia Row.”

The Netherlands - Previewed to a very positive response at ProLight+Sound in April, Alcons has launched the LR28/110 Wide Dispersion Larger Format Line Array - a three-way, line-source sound system for use as vertical array with extended horizontal coverage in up to the largest applications.
The roots of the LR28 system go back to Alcons’ foundation in 2002 and the fledgling company’s aim of delivering the best possible sound reproduction in any application at any sound pressure level. The Alcons R&D team already had over 15 years’ experience in signal processing, amplifier technology and transducer development, with particular focus on pro-ribbon technology. As a manufacturer of its own mid/high transducers, the company literally had a blank sheet of paper from which to start its quest for the ‘holy grail’ of large format sound reinforcement systems.
