USA - Praise Cathedral in Greer, South Carolina, is a Pentecostal church with a blend of traditional and contemporary worship styles. The recent replacement of the cathedral’s audio system has seen a newly-installed Alcons LR7 Micro line-array system earn high praise from the cathedral staff.
Built 19 years ago, the cathedral has a 2600-strong congregation, which is led each Sunday by a 150-piece choir and orchestra in music ranging from hymns to modern worship choruses. With many elements of its original audio system still in use, in 2016 it was realized that a major upgrade was needed to fulfil the expectations of present-day services.

Japan - Kawasaki-based production company Sunphonix recently acquired an E-Series system from Adamson Systems Engineering, making them the first E-Series partner in the Japanese market.
The package is comprised of E15 three-way, true line source enclosures and complementing E219 subwoofers, offering Sunphonix a significant competitive advantage to attract high-level domestic and international tours and large-scale music festivals in their home market.

USA - EAW has added Marilyn Fernandes to the engineering project management team. The announcement was made by Geoff McKinnon, engineering manager for EAW.
Fernandes, who has a BS in Chemical Engineering from [the] University of Massachusetts, Amherst, brings more than 15 years of experience in both manufacturing and engineering environments where she established a strong track record in managing complex projects to success. In her new role, Fernandes will be responsible for the successful execution of products including planning, budgeting, oversight and documentation.

India - Mumbai-based PA company, Roshni Audiomatics, recently invested in an Allen & Heath dLive S Class mixing system, comprising a S7000 Surface and DM64 Rack, in preparation for the live broadcast of popular singing show, Rising Star, on the Colors TV Channel.
Established for over 20 years, Roshni Audiomatics’ client base encompasses all of the major channels and production houses in the region. The dLive system was purchased from Delhi-based distributor, Sun Infonet, after the TV Channel’s sound engineer, Mahesh Amberkar, had tried and tested it.

Adlib was asked on-board by production manager Steve Martin (Tourhouse Productions) and was delighted to be working with Emeli’s FOH engineer Max Bisgrove and monitor guru Andrew Williamson.
Their system tech on the tour – fine tuning and looking after the PA each day – was Adlib’s Kenny Perrin, who commented, “It was a pleasure to work with everyone on this tour – amazing people, a great show and an extremely positive environment.”

UK - GES has announced the appointment of Mike Phillipson as managing director of its Blitz|GES event production business with immediate effect. Phillipson will be part of the GES EMEA executive team, reporting to Jason Popp, EVP of international at GES.
Phillipson is the former CEO of the creative communications agency group, Cogent Elliott and started his career working at global creative agencies Saatchi and Saatchi, Lowe and then JWT, before moving client-side to head up the marketing for the award-winning 24-hour bank, First Direct.

Germany - After eight successful years, Fohhn Audio’s award-winning Linea Focus Beam Steering systems have undergone a major update that includes the addition of new innovative features and digital inputs. The first of these “next generation” models to ship are the Linea Focus DLI-130 and DLI-230 systems designed for fixed installation applications.
The new loudspeakers are equipped as standard with inputs for AES/EBU and Fohhn AIREA. Both models are also available with optional interfaces for Dante or Optocore, or – as previously – with analogue inputs.
Other new features and functions, which can be remotely controlled or monitored using Fohhn Audio Soft, include password protected access control, readout of data from an integrated tilt sensor and a configurable Auto Power Save function. Denmark - Alfa Audio has just installed the first ever Alfa Ecoustics electronic acoustic enhancement system into Fredericia’s latest live venue, Tøjhuset (the Armoury). Using 30 x EM Acoustics EMS-51 loudspeakers, a tc electronic “brain”, and DPA microphones, Tøjhuset represents the first formal deployment of the Alfa Ecoustics system conceived by Alfa Audio’s Lars Frederiksen.
Frederiksen explained that the system was required to put some reverb back into the venue as it had recently been converted from a dedicated classical music venue into a live music venue for all genres. UK - Between the 15th - 19th August 2017, four very brave employees from Crewsaders will attempt to swim the English Channel to raise funds for Backup.
Kieren Stephens, Matt Tector, Jon Selwyn and Will Nutbeen will swim in a relay with each one of them taking one hour long stints in the water. The 21 mile wide channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world, but the team will also have to contend with very cold water, shoals of jellyfish and diesel fumes from the pilot vessel that will accompany them.
The team have collectively worked in the events industry for close to 40 years, and decided that it was time to give something back to the industry they love. They are currently undergoing a rigorous training regime to build strength, endurance, long distance swimming techniques and tolerance to the cold.
