France - Held in the stunning Cour Marly of the Louvre’s museum, the Louis Vuitton Autumn/Winter 2017 show at the recent Paris Fashion Week featured Vuitton’s models showing off the fashion house’s new collection amongst white marble statues from the reigns of Louis XIV and Louis XV. Usually, the specification for such a show’s audio is that it should be heard and not seen, but on this occasion, L-Acoustics’ new Syva system took a starring role.
Audio company De Préférence has collaborated with Louis Vuitton for many years and has become a master of invention, conjuring up new ideas for each event.
“Each time the Vuitton team does a show, they want something different,” says De Préférence’s Alain Français. “But one thing is always the same - they never want to see the loudspeakers! This means I’m always looking for new equipment and new ways of

USA - During the late 80's and 90's, New Kids On The Block took the world by storm with their super-catchy songs and clean cut good looks. Selling out concerts in record time, Danny, Donnie, Joe, Jordan and Jon gave birth to the boyband phenomenon. Today, New Kids On The Block is proving it still has the right stuff. The band sounded better than ever as it sold out arenas on its 2017 Total Package Tour. Because of his long history and record of success, legendary FOH Mix Engineer Kevin Elson chose DPA Microphones for the tour.
"I was first introduced to DPA by my friend and colleague Eddie Caipo a few years back when we worked together on Christina Aguilera's shows," says Elson. "He had some DPA capsules with him and the first one I tried was the d:vote 4099 Instrument Microphone on the toms. I was also able to use the d:facto 4018 Vocal Microphone on the New Kids On The Blo

In 2015, the company diversified into pro audio, taking on Martin Audio in cooperation with the Norwegian-based Elektrik Solutions. The following year the two companies changed their names to form part of Atendi, and at the same time the first Swedish office opened in Gothenburg.

The Netherlands - Inspired by American blues festivals, where audiences enjoy a rich diet of blues music with a side order of spare ribs, Ribs&Blues is an annual event held in the Dutch town of Raalte. This year’s event saw an eclectic mix of blues, roots and rock acts mixed on a Yamaha Rivage PM10 system at Front of House.

Australia - The Wombats are currently celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their first album, touring Australia with Groovin’ the Moo and performing a few side shows. For the past five years FOH engineer Pete Bartlett has worked with the band as well as his other main act The Pretenders.
The band members and crew were delighted to play a couple of shows at the Sydney Opera House, performing memorable and joyous shows. Let’s face it, it’s not often you witness six full-grown humans dancing around in wombat suits on stage whilst confetti guns spray over the crowd.
JPJ Audio supplied a control package that included an Avid Profile for FOH and another for monitors.
“I always use an Avid Profile as I have loads of plugins and I’m not a big fan of anything newer,” says Pete.
Pete explained that he tries to turn his Profile console as much as possibl

USA - Started 60 years ago by a small group of ordinary people coming together, Calvary Church has thrived and grown into a much-valued part of the multi-cultural community in Dover, Kent County, Delaware. As its congregation has grown, so has the construction and development of its buildings and its audio has recently been updated to meet the church’s current and future needs.
For its new systems, Calvary Church sought quotes from a number of companies before commissioning the services of AV integration specialist, JD Sound & Video.
Joe DiSabatino, president and lead design engineer of JD Sound & Video explained, “Audio was required in both the main sanctuary and a basement room. We knew Community loudspeakers would provide the best solution for both areas, so arranged a demo to enable the church to hear the systems and be completely satisfied before the p

UK - Audio specialist tube uk has invested in a new Sennheiser D6000 radio mic system which debuted on the world premiere of Israeli artist Yael Bartana’s compelling live performance experimentWhat if Women Ruled the World? As this incisive and insightful work was also multi-track recorded each night, potentially for a future film project, tube’s Melvyn Coote decided the time was right to purchase the new radio technology from Sennheiser. Sound for the piece was designed by Tel Aviv based Daniel Meir.
As the set-up evolved in discussions with Daniel, well known for his work in the world of films and sonic art and performance, Melvyn ordered the 12 beltpack transmitters and six D6000 dual receivers complete with all their infrastructure which he describes as “revolutionary” in terms of technology.
They were used on this production in conjunction with DPA4061

Europe - In recent years, Bruno Mars has evolved from talented performer to Grammy-winning global megastar and, from his performance at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris (formerly The Bercy) this month, it is easy to see why. The 24K Magic World Tour oozes quality, from the artist's outrageous voice and musicianship to the show's epic production standards, the core of which is driven by two DiGiCo SD7 mixing consoles.
Bruno Mars has just completed a three-month European leg of his 24K Magic World Tour. In that time, the crew has barely been able to catch a breath, explains FOH engineer, Chris Rabold.
“We've been all over Europe, and that's only the end of this part,” Rabold reports, adding that the US is next – and probably a couple of one-off shows and TV performances will happen in between.
The PA for this tour is the flagship Clair offering - the Cohesion

Bosnia and Herzegovina - Martin Audio has appointed SD Sistemi as its new distributor for Bosnia and Herzegovina. The agreement was borne out of several meetings at trade shows this year.
The Bosnian specialists had first approached Martin Audio with a view to cooperation at ISE in Amsterdam. “During that show we attended the presentation of their new products which were really amazing - and we decided there and then that we wanted these products in our portfolio,” stated SD Sistemi CEO, Dragan Šukalo.
Bradley Watson, Martin Audio’s EMEA sales manager, confirmed this. “When I met the SD Sistemi team at ISE, it was clear they were keen to work with us and following another meeting at Prolight+Sound, where we spent more time with their team in the demo room, the natural step was to formally confirm them as Martin Audio distribution partner in Bosnia and Herzego

USA - New for Summer NAMM 2017, sE Electronics has announced the sE8 condenser microphone. The sE8 utilizes a handcrafted gold-sputtered small-diaphragm true condenser capsule manufactured by sE in their own capsule room, with this capsule’s brand new backplate design resulting in a more even, balanced sound and superior transient response as compared to any other small-capsule condenser of comparable price and beyond.
According to sE’s product manager Thomas Stubics, “You can apply any shelving filters or peak EQ without harshness, unpleasant colorations or distorted transients – it just stays natural.” This is accomplished with an extremely short, efficient signal path, without the use of ICs or transformers - and according to Stubics, the sE8 is “one of the quietest SDC microphones available today – and by far the quietest in its class. USA - For the second major tour in a row and the band’s 40th Anniversary, FOH Engineer Robert Scovill has specified an EAW ADAPTive sound reinforcement system to support Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Escondido, California-based Sound Image is providing the crew as well as the system, which is comprised of Anya array and Otto subwoofer modules, supplemented with Anna delay towers for stadium shows.
The 270-degree arena rig consists of 56 Anya for the main left/right arrays, hung in a 12-8-8 column configuration per side, a centre cluster of six Anya and 14 Otto subs spaced across the front of the stage. The majority of the tour will utilise this system although for stadium shows, like Wrigley Field in Chicago, Scovill has specified a delay ring made up of four towers of 12 Anna enclosures to supplement the main rig.

Germany - With the new VT16 Vertical Line Array loudspeaker ProAudio Technology expands their product family by a compact line array system 58 cm wide (22.8 in.) which sets new standards regarding efficiency and cost effectiveness.
The VT16 was first showcased at Prolight & Sound 2017, the series rollout began in May. The two 8” high-excursion low-mid drivers are arranged symmetrically around the horn-loaded 1.4” HF driver, providing a distinctive full-range behaviour down below 50 Hz. In the crucial mid-range all three drivers work in parallel, thereby providing essential headroom with a compact music programme. The horizontal dispersion is 90 degrees and the weight is 21 kg (46.4 lbs).
The linear acoustic phase of the VT 16 above 80 Hz ensures a perfect broadband coupling among the individual speakers within the array and enables to equalize the whole system

Europe - You can take the band out of Southern California but you can’t take So Cal out of the band. Completing the European leg of their world tour in Birmingham last week, Linkin Park’s One More Light is a departure from the group’s earlier work. Smooth, subtle, and sometimes moody, the band’s evolving sound is beautifully complemented by the tour’s lighting designer, Celine Royer. Key to her design are 74 of the new Solaris Flare Q+ fixtures.
“We wanted to tell a story with the lighting, reflecting the emotional journey that happens throughout the night,” says Celine. “A geometric look, with Flares everywhere, is a nod to the band’s metal roots, while subtle hues are programmed to catch nuances in the band’s newer material. We have the Flares on upstage, midstage, and downstage moving trusses, as well as sidefills and uplights.

Finland - Kaiku opened in Helsinki in 2013 and quickly rose to the forefront of the city’s lively club scene. Its popularity is perhaps founded on the prominence of its owner, Toni Rantanen, who has been masterminding the scene by founding and concurrently operating several clubs since the early 2000s.
But while his name may have made people take notice, it is the consistently awesome parties that evolve every night at Kaiku that pack it to capacity (400 people) and keep A-list DJs at Rantanen’s beck and call. Recently, Kaiku upgraded its already excellent sound system to a complete Danley Sound Labs system, including loudspeakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, and processing.
Kaiku’s new system consists of four Danley SH-46 loudspeakers for full-range content. The SH-46 uses acoustical wizard Tom Danley’s patented Synergy Horn technology to deliver incredibly accura

China - Almost 400 L-Acoustics cabinets were deployed as part of a mammoth PA system for Jacky Cheung’s 2017 A Classic Tour, which took in 21 venues, both indoor and outdoor, across mainland China at the beginning of the year, and continues through Hong Kong, Sinapore and Taiwan.
The show is performed in the round, with both complex stage machinery and the task of ensuring complete coverage of the audience offering a challenge for rental companies Haona, who supplied the system for the China dates, Unusual in Singapore and Taiwan’s Winly, who worked alongside L-Acoustics Chinese distributor, Rightway Audio Consultants to realise a complex design.
A Hong Kong-born singer, songwriter and actor, Jacky Cheung is one of the city’s ‘Four Heavenly Kings’ – a term created by Oriental Daily News in 1992 to describe the four biggest male entertainment artists

UK - Long renowned as a home of artists and inspiring galleries, the Cornish resort of St. Ives has now discovered the art of sound, with new bar restaurant Beer & Bird the canvas for a subtly rendered sonic palette, delivered by a Yamaha Commercial Installation Solutions (CIS) installation.
Beer & Bird is an independent, family run business which grew out of John’s Wines and Spirit Specialists - a long-established Cornish retailer of high quality wines, spirits, beers and ciders. Opening a restaurant where patrons could enjoy the company’s drinks with delicious, locally-sourced food was a logical progression, with Beer & Bird opening its doors in April 2017.
Proprietors Tom, Sam and Paul Hanson were determined that the quality of the ambience should match the quality of its fare, so they approached Penzance-based Acoustic Streams, a company renowned fo

Europe - Bryan Ferry is on tour across the USA and Europe, including various dates on the festival circuit, carrying a dLive S Class mixing system from Allen & Heath to manage monitors.
Supplied by Britannia Row Productions in Europe and Clair Bros in the USA, dLive was selected by monitor engineer, Tom Howat. The system comprises a S5000 Surface with DM64 MixRack, DX32 Expander Rack, and two IP8 controllers for remote access. Howat has used dLive on previous tours, including Paolo Nutini and Morrissey.
“Once again, the dLive delivers clarity and precision. Mixing in-ear monitors for a 10-piece band comprising some very well-known and experienced musicians requires a monitor desk that will deliver a detailed, full sound. dLive’s built-in compression and FX make a huge contribution towards achieving this, along with plenty of scenes - 50+ and counting.” expla
