UK - As the largest charity in the UK and the second largest medical research charity in the world, the Wellcome Trust is currently spending around £500 million each year to support biomedical research.

Reinforcing this position has been the recent opening of the Wellcome Collection, a £30 million visitor centre in London's Euston Road which combines three exhibition galleries, the Wellcome Library, a conference centre, public events forum, club, café and bookshop.

Installed by Sarner Ltd, a specialist audio visual systems integrator, Ampetronic induction loops form a vital part of the project, being provided in the main circulation area, conference centre auditorium, forum and three seminar rooms.

With the close proximity of several loop systems, minimising crosstalk between each one was of the utmost priority, so Sarner invited Ampetronic to design low s

The Netherlands - Stock Audio & Light recently provided a high-end sound reinforcement system featuring dual EAW UX8800 digital processors in tandem with EAW KF760 Series line arrays for a memorial concert by the Limburg Symphony Orchestra that marked the liberation of the Netherlands in World War II.

The concert, held on the grounds of the American Battle Cemetery and Memorial in Margraten, the Netherlands, was highlighted by a performance of Verdi's Requiem, accompanied by the Vocal Collective, a 60-member choir from Belgium.

Stock Audio, based in Geleen, the Netherlands, worked with the concert's front-of-house engineer, Jo Smeets, to assemble a system providing enough headroom to reach a coverage area spanning beyond 150m, while also capable of presenting a very natural sonic signature.

The sound team responded with a main system featuring dual line arrays, each comprise

Paul Movies has in these few short months begun the process of establishing the brand and will be exhibiting a range of d&b systems at PALME in Mumbai this week (4-6 October).

"We aim to grow this market in the way d&b has done around the world; it will take time for users to learn the value of the products. Engaging known audio specialists regionally gives us the foundation to build the knowledge and training required," says director Andrew Paul.

"We will be talking to audio engineers, as we did in July, when we invited over three hundred rental and installation specialists to a demonstration of the Q-Series systems at the Oberoi Hotel Ballroom in Delhi. We let them hear the systems and decide fo

UK - One weekend in the middle of August saw WE Audio's Aspect system adorning not one, but two of London's parks for three new festivals: Victoria Park in East London saw the first ever Field Day and Underage Festival; and central London's Regents Park played host to those very nice people at Innocent Smoothies' Village Fete, the new version of their Fruitstock festival.

Field Day brought together the best of London's alternative live music and club promoters for a day of music and dancing, with bands such as Mystery Jets, The Aliens, 1990s, Bat For Lashes, Pull Tiger Tail and James Yorkston, and DJ's Andrew Weatherall, Erol Alkan and Jo Jo De Freq, as well as those village fete favourites such as hog roasts, tugs of war, tombola, barn dancing, hoedown tent and a largest marrow competition.

Underage Festival, meanwhile, was hailed as "the world's first credible festival

Centrally supplied from multi-CD and media-player sources, each zone has separate Toa amplification driving a total

Ireland - TSM, a company based in Galway, provided the sound for the Ballina Mardi Gras night held earlier this summer. TSM are specialists in providing theatre and concert sound and have been advocates of using K.M.E. equipment since K.M.E. was first introduced to Ireland by Joe O'Neill Ltd.

Liam Feeney, managing director of TSM (The Sound Man), commented: "We were contracted to provide a sound re-enforcement system for up to 60,000 people, which is fine for a normal arena/stadium with sufficient equipment and the right people, but when we saw the venue and the circumstances we knew it would require something very special, so we turned to K.M.E."

Feeney added, "We made contact with Kerst Glass of K.M.E. and discussed specifications. We were aware of the difficulties involved including the audience area being merely the width of the street (approximately 10m), t

Europe - In 2006, The Red Hot Chili Peppers began an international world tour alternating between Europe, North America, and Oceania, in support of the Grammy Award-winning album Stadium Arcadium, which became the best-selling CD of 2006 with over seven million units sold.

As a continuation of the tour, the band returned to Europe this year, taking in shows from late June to late August and making stops at various cities and summer festivals along the way. In July they performed three shows in three different cities (Paris, London, Copenhagen) in just 24 hours.

As for their previous world tours the sound specification revolved exclusively around L-acoustics equipment. Long time RHCP FOH Engineer Dave Rat, founder and President of Rat Sound Systems, relied on the European V-Dosc Network to provide V-Dosc systems for the majority of their run.

Dave Rat comments, "I

The Netherlands - One of south Holland's major theatres, the Schouburg Heerlen, has undergone a large-scale refurbishment, transforming it into a multi-purpose venue with three different areas - a large theatre, pop hall and small theatre) - with the addition of a café, enabling the venue to host anything from opera to stand-up comedy, board meetings to rock concerts.

TM Audio was responsible for the new audio requirements, selecting a 24-channel Allen & Heath GL2400 multi-function mixer for FOH and monitor sound reinforcement in the small theatre hall. The console feeds a Martin Audio speaker system. Audio distribution and processing is provided by Allen & Heath's iDR-4 16x16 DSP mixer, installed in the FOH rack.

"The GL2400 will easily fulfill the requirements of the wide variety of performers that the theatre expects to host," explains TM Audio's sales & ma

These are resources we can provide them. We accompany new Sotex clients to a series

Germany - In the southern Westphalian town of Siegen, the newly-refurbished Siegerlandhalle has re-opened after a year-long revamp. Now the region's largest events venue, the Siegerlandhalle has a 1,800 m² Great Hall, with a new gallery that has capacity for 2,500 sitting or 4,300 standing audiences, encouraging big-name artists and groups to book the venue.

When it came to choosing the sound reinforcement equipment, the essential criteria were very good sound quality and very good value for money. Clear transmission of the spoken word was also an important feature, as the Siegerlandhalle not only hosts musical events but also conferences, congresses and trade fairs.

The bid-winning design was proposed by the Siegen company Trendco, which also provided and installed the stage mechanics and lighting system. In charge of the project was Jens Schmidt, who drew up the design toge

Slovakia - With three stages featuring Electro-Voice pro audio equipment, the new Slovakian National Theatre in Bratislava meets the highest international standards. EV's Slovakian partner, SBL Acoustics, undertook the audio installation - including 200 EV speakers - with support from local installation specialists Proeling.

"One of the principal stipulations for the sound systems was the provision of even coverage throughout each auditorium," says Stanislav Lehen, manager, SBL Acoustics. "This standard request proved trickier than expected. The architecture of the rooms posed a number of problems. They were all very wide and open. To arrive at a homogeneous sound image, therefore, we had to come up with something exceptional."

The theatre's technical specialists were unanimous in favouring Electro-Voice when it came to selecting the sound equipment. "

UK - Rental and production company, Chameleon pro audio and lighting has recently augmented its hire stock with a rack of four Crest Pro200 Series amplifiers. Designed with touring sound professionals in mind, Crest Pro200 Series amplifiers offer increased power, lower weight and a smaller enclosure than competing amplifiers from other brands, in an extremely economical package. Chameleon opted for a rack comprising one Pro5200, two Pro8200s and one Pro9200, the high power 'Big Brother' of the range.

"We have a great number of amplifiers in stock from a wide variety of well known manufacturers," noted Chameleon MD Stewart Duckworth. "However, in order to meet increasing demand for powerful, lightweight racks at a reasonable price point, we needed to increase our hire stock, so I started to have a serious look around at what was available."

Germany - One of Germany's most impressive new sports and leisure parks can be found in the automotive capital of Stuttgart. Here, the mighty Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadium in NeckarPark, home to VfB Stuttgart FC, has been joined recently by the 15,500-capacity Hans-Martin-Schleyer concert hall, and the Porsche and Carl Benz Arenas - all linked by a giant concourse, with common parking facilities.

Soundweb London DSP devices from BSS Audio play a significant role in the signal distribution across this complex.

Much of the NeckarPark development, including the Carl Benz Center (which houses the Arena), has been financed by one of the most important private investors in Stuttgart, Rudi Häussler of the Häussler Group. In addition to the Arena, the Carl Benz complex contains the four-star Hilton Garden Inn Hotel, a supporters' shop, fitness centre and restaurant as well as being the b

UK - With Line Arrays now a common tool amongst most touring rental companies, a further investment usually has to be in infrastructure for the system in the form of cabling, and more often than not a ground support system.

Litestructures approached speaker manufacturers directly about their various systems available. The result is that Litestructures has re-invented Its LiteMast with their ProBase system which works in place of the standard fixed angled corner joint. The ProBase incorporates universal mountings for chain hoists allowing one person to locate and fix the hoist in position rather than two which most other systems require. Another key point to the ProBase is the all round hinged corners, these allow the unit to be folded down for shipping with out the need to fully disassemble the mast, aiding load in and load out time.

UK - Metallica's recent European tour has justifiably been trumpeted by Midas as the acid test for its new XL8 digital live mixing system. But it was also a perfect demonstration of the quality and reliability of the components the design team specified. A case in point is the link between the console and the stage, one of the areas singled out by Metallica's engineer, Big Mick Hughes, as making a real difference. As he noted, with short leads from mics to stage box and a digital signal thereafter there was no discernible loss in frequency response - "an intelligibility and clarity that I've never really heard before", as he put it.

The link from the stage box is fibre optic to ensure that integrity of signal is matched by high-speed, zero-latency data transfer. The only question mark at design stage was over the flimsy plastic 'LC' connectors routinely supplied with f
