Organised by promoters, the Gum & Glue Co, Falmouth Bay Events Square Live was held in the Cornish port over the August bank holiday weekend, providing two evenings of diverse musical entertainment.

The Exeter branch of Sound2Light Productions was chosen to provide all the sound, lighting and staging equipment, with support from Cornwall-based Allen & Heath. The new iLive digital system - comprisingan iDR10 stage rack and iLive-144 control surface - was selected for FOH, with a 32-channel GL2800M dedicated analogue monitor console.

UK - Helen & Douglas House held their most successful ever fundraising event on Saturday 15 September whilst commemorating their 25th anniversary, over £155,000 was raised on the night with Stage Electrics supplying a full sound system, AV equipment and technical crew.

Based on a circus theme, the ball was held in a stunning big top tent with a helter skelter built right into the twinkling roof. Magicians, 'birds of paradise', juggling stilt walkers, a carousel and the Honda Racing F1 Team simulator car added to the fun, while celebrity guests including Trinny Woodall, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, Alex James (Blur), Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Richard Hammond and James May added the glamour.

Finland - High End Systems has announced a new partner agreement with Soundata Oy in Helsinki to supply HES products to Finland's entertainment and television markets. Soundata is active in a variety of fields including lighting, AV contracting, live sound and studio technology.

UK - Blitz has recently completed internal investment with a value of £100k following the purchase of additional High Definition (HD) broadcast graphics systems for its already impressive rental fleet.

Blitz has invested in one of the world's most advanced graphics systems Chyron HyperX with Lyric PRO. The HyperX supports one or two independent HD/SD-switchable channels and simultaneous HD animations on two channels for "truly stunning graphics play out". USA - Community Professional has appointed pro audio veteran Rod Falconer to the position of regional sales manager for the Western US region and Canada.

With more than 25 years in professional audio sales, Falconer comes to Community from Sabine, where he was director of sales. Previously he has held positions in sales and marketing at SLS Audio, L'Acoustics, JBL Professional and AMX. Falconer will be responsible for outside sales management in Canada and the western half of the United States.

Italy - The Vatican decided to invest in a new conference system for the prestigious Sala del Sinodo (Synod Hall). The system chosen was a DCN Next Generation consisting of interpretation, camera control, PC control and 364 positions with flush-mount units and nine positions table top DCN Concentus.

The flush-mount units offer the same functionality and performance as the table top DCN Concentus systems while enabling tailor-made fixed installations to be built into tables and arm rests. The flush-mount units consist of a microphone, loudspeaker and microphone activation button, simply combined in a strip and finished with matching end-caps.

USA - Renkus-Heinz was forced to evacuate its factory in Foothill Ranch, California, as the wildfires that have devastated large areas of California in the past few days came within 250 yards of the 50,000sq.ft facility. All employees left the building safely and structural damage was averted by a combination of the dedication of firefighting teams and a sudden change in direction of the wind. The factory has since reopened.

A rapid decision was made by the company to evacuate to protect employees and vital documents as the Orange County Fire Department fought to contain the inferno that has already left one dead, scores injured and over 1,000 properties destroyed. US President George Bush has declared a state of emergency in California.

UK - The Event Show, which takes place in January 2008 at Olympia in London, has confirmed that Barry Baker, the Health and Safety Executive's head of entertainment and leisure section, will be present to take questions from event organisers on day two as part of the Access Sessions.

Barry Baker and his team will discuss the changing nature of health & safety for events, includingthe Control of Noise At Work Regulations 2005 which came into force in April last year and how it has impacted on live music events. The team will also cover Working At Height Regulations as well as future trends that will affect event organisers.

UK - Harman Pro UK have announced a training day on 30 November 30th, 2007 forprofessional live sound engineers who wish to get the most out of the Soundcraft Vi6 digital live sound console.

The event will take place in North London, at Camden nightclub and live venue Koko, and will behosted by Soundcraft technical staff and Rob Hughes, an experienced Vi6 user from UK hire company SSE Audio, who were one of the first companies to order the Vi6 following the console's launch in 2006. SSE now own several of the desks, and they are in constant use.

Two training sessions will be held on the day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, each catering for up to 10 engineers. At each session, following an initial technical presentation, the 10 will be divided into two groups of five, each with access to their own Vi6, so that every attendee is assured of some properly supervised

USA - The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration and The Institute for Exploration have been combing the waters searching for ancient mysteries and unearthing new phenomena. Central to their recent missions has been the RTS intercom system that provides unified communications from the world's most remote locations.

One of the latest expeditions that NOAA and the Institute for Exploration collaborated on was the Secrets of the Gulf Expedition.

Crew members on land were able to keep in contact with their seafaring counterparts with a RTS Digital Matrix Intercom system. Utilizing an advanced trunking system with VoIP protocols, RTS was connected into the existing data network for seamless integration. The systems aboard the ships were connected via satellite uplink to the corresponding station on land, which enabled realtime communication. This was achieved with RTS RVON V

Malaysia - Klotz Digital Asia was recently awarded a contract from Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) for its new regional facility in Kuching and Alor Star to supply VADIS MCR Routers, VADIS DC II and AEON On-Air console surfaces. The facility in Kuching in the state of Sarawak in East Malaysia will be the biggest regional facility. The contract to purchase the Klotz Digital equipments was received through Commissioning & Maintenance Services (M) Sdn Bhd, the system integrator for this project.

Under the terms of the Agreement, for the Kuching facility, Klotz delivered a 256 x 256 router comprising of five units of VADIS 888 frame for the Master Control Room (MCR) and two units of VADIS 212 frame, one as a By-Pass Router and the other for the Telecom Switching Room respectively. UK - Switchcraft has extended its range of StudioPatch patchbays by adding audio pass-through panels and ready-made DB25 breakout cables.

Built into 19 inch 1RU rack mounted enclosures, the new audio pass-through panels will meet a wide range of I/O requirements by providing a selection of popular interconnection options for fixed and mobile installations, says the company.

All versions have two 25-way D-sub connectors on the rear panel and engineers can choose four different male/female XLR combinations or 6.35mm (¼ inch) jack sockets on the front panel. Internal connections between the D-sub connectors and the front panels are made using 110 ohm cable, making the panels suitable for digital, AES/EBU and analogue applications. Germany - Since 15 October Potsdam university officially has a new lecture room and seminar building at the Griebnitzsee campus and now boasts seven lecture halls with a total of 1790 seats and 18 seminar rooms with 900 seats. The biggest lecture hall of the university with 800 seats can be divided into two smaller halls with 400 seats each. In the new building are located the faculty for economic and social sciences, the juristic faculty and the language centre.

Austria - Pope Benedikt XVI's three-day visit to Austria in September attracted a great deal of media attention throughout Europe, with the procession and mass in Mariazell on 8 September being just one of the events covered live by broadcasters, such as Austrian television company ORF. UK - Eden Court Theatre, Inverness, is set to become the biggest multi-arts centre north of the border thanks to a major refurbishment and expansion project. Tasked with the challenge of bringing the vintage main 850-seater auditorium up to 21st-century standards, chief technician Graham Watts chose the Soundcraft Vi4 as his digital live sound console of choice.

The Soundcraft Vi4 will take centre stage in the recently refurbished EC1 auditorium coupled with four Opus Audio high definition amplifiers and five Opus Audio PSD 800T speakers. UK - Leamington Spa-based PSL has recently completed an installation for the function facilities at Wethele Manor, using Community VERIS and I/O loudspeakers.

Wethele Manor, at Weston-Under-Wetherly near Leamington, is an attractive old farmhouse dating back to the 16th century. Restored to a very high standard it now offers luxury accommodation and is set on a 250-acre estate overlooking the rolling Warwickshire countryside. The old stable block, which retains many features including the original roof timbers, has been converted to provide a unique L-shaped function room facility.

Having heard the systems installed by PSL at the Sweeny's and KoKo's venues in Leamington, the owners of Wethele Manor contacted Peter Smith of PSL to design and supply their system. UK - RCF recently held an Open Day at the City of Manchester Stadium. The event, which was held in conjunction with Audex 07, gave RCF the opportunity to show off and demonstrate many of their key speaker systems as well as a selection of commercial audio products.

Speaking about the occasion, Phil Price said: "Today we have had the opportunity of displaying and demonstrating the new Digital Art Speakers, Acustica and most of the TT+ range. Although we are constantly demonstrating speakers all over the country, people have had an opportunity to hear them in a much larger environment."
