UK - Yamaha's Commercial Installations Solutions (CIS) range offers installers a wide range of options, making systems from the simplest to the most complex straightforward to design, install, commission and control. Suitable for virtually any indoor project, a recent installation has seen CIS products flex their muscles at Simply Gym.

Welsh not-for-profit company Bay Leisure operates three Simply Gym facilities; in Llansamlet, Gorseinon and Cwmbran. The latter opened in January this year and features a Yamaha CIS audio system, supplied and installed by Swansea-based Total Sound Solutions.

"The client brief was that the system had to deliver a full, even sound throughout the gym, but without having massive, ugly-looking 12" drivers," says Total Sound Solutions chief executive Chris Hooke. "The way the music sounds is vital to the gym experience. The Yamaha VXS8, eight-inch

UK - The CPL team (Central Presentations Ltd) led by Lee Gruszeckyj delivered stage design and full technical production for the 2016 annual conference for accounting specialists, Tax Assist, staged in the Caernarfon Suite at Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales.

CPL has provided sound, lighting and video for the event for the last few years, and seen it grow in size and a commitment to production values. The most successful elements of last years' event - also the company's 20th anniversary - were taken as the starting point for this year's stage and set design - and combined with some new components to keep it looking fresh and interesting for the 400 guests.

"Flexibility was the key," states Lee, together with being able to set up quickly and efficiently. A hybrid approach to the design ensured a slick transition from conference session in the afternoon to full-o

Italy - Among the numerous large rallies staged throughout Italy for and against the proposed law regarding same-sex civil unions and adoptions by same-sex couples, one of those that attracted the widest media coverage was the Family Day staged in January at Rome's Circus Maximus.

Dating back to 7 B.C., the venue is in fact the second largest sports stadium of all time and, where chariot races, simulated battles with infantry, cavalry and elephants once drew an enormous number of spectators in ancient Rome, the 680 yards long Circus attracted a huge crowd, not only there to show its support, but also hear exactly what the key speakers had to say.

The big challenge of ensuring perfect intelligibility for the delicate topics covered was accepted by audio contractor Cipiesse from Rezzato (near Brescia). The audio team comprised Cipiesse partner and production manager Marco Ri

Italy - Three days in early May saw Rimini's Fiera exhibition venue play host to Music Inside Rimini (MIR), a new trade show for innovation in sound, lighting and video technology. Four of the venue's halls hosted hands-on audio mixing sessions, where a pair of Yamaha RIVAGE PM10 mixing systems were the stars of the show.

Taking place from 7-9 May, MIR featured themed areas including audio, AV equipment, lighting, lasers, staging and nightclub décor. Four halls were hosted by Live You Play, an innovative showcase where manufacturers could demonstrate their products by inviting visitors to try them out with artists performing live on real stages.

Yamaha Music Europe and Nexo worked together to supply a comprehensive audio system for one of the halls, inviting front of house and monitor engineers to mix a nine-piece band of professional musicians.

UK - Ritz Rehearsal Studios in south west London has recently upgraded its facilities, including a major investment in Sennheiser equipment.

Ritz is located in Putney. During its 40-year history it has played host to such names as The Stranglers, Blur, The Clash, Led Zeppelin and Amy Winehouse. It was acquired last year by 24/7 Productions, which provides services to the music touring, event production and TV production industries on a global basis.

"We were rehearsing at Ritz with one of our artists," explains Andrew Thornton, head production manager for 24/7, which has a client list including Paloma Faith, Annie Lennox, Jessie J, Ella Henderson and Shawn Mendes. "They wanted to upgrade the facility and were looking for some investment. John Pryer, who owns 24/7, was interested in helping them and, as a result, Ritz was incorporated into the 24/7 group of companies."

Canada - The JUNO Awards, Canada's most prestigious music awards show, recently aired live on CTV from Calgary's Scotiabank Saddledome and featured performances by many of the country's leading music artists, including Alessia Cara, Bryan Adams, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Dean Brody, Jann Arden, Shawn Mendes, The Tenors and The Weeknd.

But it was the performance by an L-Acoustics K1/K2 sound system - provided by another Canadian original, Solotech - that seamlessly kept the music sonically clear all night long.

Solotech's L-Acoustics system proved to be a particularly ideal solution for Scotiabank Saddledome, which is a beautiful sounding hall with a hyperbolic paraboloid-shaped roof (the world's longest) offering fantastic interior sightlines. However, that same design poses a number of challenges in terms of weight limitations. Thankfully, the superior weight-to-power ratio of

World - Adele's tour of Europe and North America is possibly the biggest tour of 2016 - it certainly has the highest of production values and there is, quite simply, no room for error. This is the remit for German rental company Black Box Music and a team of engineers, who have specified equipment from some of the audio industry's best known and most well respected manufacturers. Used by Adele and her three backing singers, Sennheiser's flagship Digital 9000 system microphones are a vital component.

For Sennheiser, being part of such a prestigious, high production value tour fits perfectly with its ethos of providing world-class, innovative solutions that continually push the boundaries of audio technology, says the company. Front-of-House engineer for the tour is Dave Bracey and he was delighted with Digital 9000 from the moment he heard it.

Almost six decades later, and in its Soho home, Ronnie Scott's is one of the world's best-known jazz clubs, regularly hosting the genre's biggest names as well as nurturing rising stars. The club also offers a diverse programme of live music including Latin, jive, blues, flamenco, tap dancing and DJ sets which has helped make it the place to be for both the new hipster generation and music fans seeking the very best in live jazz.

Mexico - The jewel in the crown of Mexico's live music scene is the Vive Latino festival. Now in its 17th year, this hugely successful concert weekend takes place in the Foro Sol in Mexico City. Its concept is to gather important and upcoming bands from all over Ibero-America. This year, 150,000 people gathered to hear the performances of 70 artists and groups from 18 countries.

As in previous years, the primary PA systems were provided by Tecnoson Espectaculos, for the promoter OCESA Group. Under the leadership of sound designer Sergio Zenteno, two of the main stages were set up with Nexo STM modular line array systems. Drawing on Tecnoson's extensive inventory, the system specification for the Tecate Stage was an example of the diversity and sonic compatibility of the range of Nexo cabinets.

UK - The Huntingdonshire Charity Ball has been organised by Le Mark's Kirsty Fisher, the partner of the late Dave Cartwright.

Dave, Le Mark's national business development manager, tragically suffered a stroke in June 2015 and passed away one month later. Kirsty wanted to commemorate the anniversary of Dave's passing and at the same time find a way to thank and support both the Woodlands Centre at Hinchingbrooke and Addenbrookes Hospitals, which battled to save his life.

After discussing with friends and colleagues Kirsty's decision was to ensure it was a true celebration of Dave's life and the idea of a VIP Charity Ball was born. Forming a group under the heading of 'Friends of Huntingdon Charity' the event has grown and grown.

Kirsty says: "It's been incredible. Once people knew of the plans and the charities that would benefit, local business people came forward and

UK - When Kevin Mobberley set up his West Midlands based rental company Stage Audio Services at the beginning of the 1980s, the mainstay of his PA inventory consisted of Martin Audio's classic B1, B2 and legendary MH212 'Philishave' components.

Fast forward 35 years and the wheel has turned full circle as the company has placed the first of what will become several tranches of investment, in the High Wycombe manufacturer's new MLA platform.

They have acquired a substantial MLA Compact rig (including MLX subs) promising that this will be the start of a steady upgrade path into both Martin Audio Multicellular Loudspeaker Array and Differential Dispersion technology (with the DD12).

Explaining the timing of the new MLA acquisition Kevin Mobberley said, "With the outdoor season approaching we were getting asked increasingly by our clients to investigate MLA. The system is
