Turkey - The meeting and party areas of the resort of Mardan Palace in Antalya features top-of-the-range lighting supplied by Coemar. The style of the resort combines the Ottoman-flavour gold colours and finishes with the clean-cut lines of European design, creating spaces with attention to every detail, where luxury is expressed to the full.

To achieve a more harmonious blend of the lighting equipment with the architecture of Mardan Palace, Coemar has customised its projectors where necessary, colouring them gold or white according to their use.

In the jazz bar, the stage is entirely lit by Coemar LED products, which produce a high output in limited dimensions, without heating the surrounding area. Thirty-six Pinlite LEDS provide the basic lighting, each with 12 1.2 W Luxeon LEDs, four red, four green and four blue. Six I Wash Leds moving heads are installed for the moving li

USA - "For me the imperative was it had to be transformational," says Doug 'Spike' Brant of Performance Environment Design Group (PEDG), the conceptual force behind Bon Jovi's latest tour. "The show essentially starts with nothing and then morphs and changes throughout - there's always the unexpected."

Encompassing the unexpected fell to Tait Towers. "We've worked with Doug many times before and he always challenges us," said Adam Davies Tait Towers VP. "His designs are theatrical in that they are complex underneath, but always look simple in execution and never detract from the artist."

Played 360 wherever possible, the stage is an ellipse within a circular walkway with automated lighting towers and robotic LED platforms to the rear. A video screen sits above. "These shows are even more elaborate than the last tour," said Bon

UK - Through the countdown to the end of arguably one of the BBC's most controversial chat shows, Richard Martin Lighting continues to support lighting designer Chris Kempton on Friday Night with Jonathon Ross.

The show's rig includes Stage Zooms, MAC 250s, MAC 500s, MAC 700s, VL2000, Chroma Strips, Stage Bars, Pixel Pars, MR16 Battens with extras as and when required since 2002. This time it was the turn of the GLP Impressions/ XL which were the main focus whilst Groove Armada performed.

The chrome GLP Impression XL offers 240 LEDs. When asked about his choice of specification Kempton said, "I was delighted with the performance of the GLP units on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. We always try to achieve fresh and distinctive lighting looks on the show and the GLPs are a very powerful unit both in light output and visual impact.

South Africa - Lighting designer Mauritz Neethling of LCD Productions used Robe moving lights at the core of his rig for the much hyped finale of Survivor South Africa Santa Carolina, which was broadcast from M-Net's Studio 6 in Johannesburg.

The brief was to recreate the "rustic" feel of Paradise Island in Mozambique, where the bulk of the action took place, complete with a technical team and equipment from sister company Blond Productions who were supplying lighting for the location episodes of the series.

The studio measures 18m deep by 30m wide, with 10m of headroom, and the Robe fixtures used were 12 ColorSpot 700E ATs, 12 ColorSpot 250 ATs and 12 Scan 575 XTs.

The 700s were used as front light for the 'tribal' area, and to create realistic fire effects across the set, for which the animation wheels proved the perfect tool.

The Scan 575 XTs were used

USA - Tegan and Sara lighting designer Benjamin Price was given a challenge - fit the entire lighting rig for the duo's current tour into a 10 x 7ft trailer without exceeding the 5,000 lb weight limit. The limitations put significant constraints on gear specification and ultimately helped to shape the lighting design.

"It meant of course that I needed to design lightweight and small but still assemble a lighting package capable of a dynamic show. Ultimately it led me to the MAC 401 Dual," Price says. "We wanted to carry a comprehensive lighting package so we could consistently evoke the same kind of energy and look to the show whether playing in a small or large venue.

"I knew that some element of this design was going to incorporate an LED product, however I wasn't really happy with most of the LED wash fixtures out in the market, mostly because of the pix

Georgia - Built in 1971, the 2000-capacity Philharmonic Concert Hall in the Georgian capital Tbilisi hosts many of the city's highest profile live concerts, operas, ballets and theatre productions. Recently the venue has undergone a major facelift, which has included the installation of a large exterior Lighthouse LED screen.

Located above the venue's main doors, the screen comprises 63 panels of Lighthouse P12-ER screen, in a 9 x 7 panel (14.4 9(w) x 8.4m (h)) landscape format. It is mounted on a steel framework, which was designed and installed by local company Stage Design, with Lighthouse Europe installing the screen itself.

"The Concert Hall's management had seen Lighthouse P12-ER panels at other installations and knew about its tremendous potential as an advertising medium," says Lighthouse project engineer Olaf Mineo, who oversaw the installation together with

Canada - At Canada Place in downtown Vancouver a special Annual Light Show on the Canada Place Sails plays nightly courtesy of Martin Professional and Moment Factory. Visible from multiple points across the city, the Canada Place Sails light up in a dynamic display of imagery, light, colour, texture and animation.

Designers of the visual event are Moment Factory of Montreal. The installation consists of 10 Martin Exterior 1200 Image Projectors illuminating five sails; two carefully aligned Exterior 1200 projectors for each of the 90ft tall by 160ft wide sails. The Exterior 1200s, which were supplied locally by Christie Lites, are mounted on 10ft poles at a distance of approximately 90-100 ft from each sail.

"It was an eight month process to design and realize the light show on the sails but the result has exceeded my expectations," comments Gabriel Pontbriand,

For two of the massive interactive elements in the exhibit - a 40ft tornado and 20ft avalanche disk - Production Resource Group (PRG), working closely with Christopher Wilson, senior project manager at MSI and the exhibit's general contractor, Norcon of Chicago, engineered, fabricated and installed the designs of environmental artist Ned Kahn; and Architect Jack Pascarosa, AIA, of New York-based firm Evidence Design.

At 60ft tall, 27ft diameter and 75,000lbs, the tornado display is the largest effect in the hall. The 40ft vortex of swirling air and vapour rises continuously from the floor and is able to be controlled by guests through a series of dampers that

The Netherlands - Elation Light Shaping Filters attach to a gel frame or the inside of an LED's casing in minutes - to add 10°, 20°, 30° or a linear beam shape effect to its beam angle that's suitable for stage or wall grazing, without requiring complicated or permanent alterations to the fixture.

Dirk Kast, general manager for Elation Europe, comments, "Customers have been asking for wider diffused LED lighting fixtures without losing a lot of output, and our new Lighting Shaping Filters provide an easy, cost-efficient way to attain this. Using one of these filters, you can widen the beam of a narrow beam angle LED par like our Opti Tri 30 and convert it into a fixture suitable for a stage or wall wash."

Elation Light Shaping Filters have been designed to preserve as much power as possible while dispersing light. The Elation products provide up to 92% li

UK - Pixled has launched the F-37L - a flexible 37mm LED mesh display offering the benefits of being able to create LED displays of any shape whilst also being suitable for wide flat screen backdrops.

The quick roll-out design enables "ultra fast installation/breakdown with minimal labour", and the 2300 Nit light output delivers mega-bright, high-impact, full-colour video images, says the company.

The high transparency factor enables video and lighting effects to be layered, as the surface becomes near invisible with lights shining through from behind.

The product is robustly engineered and has been developed to extend the already extensive Pixled range which is popular for music concerts, trade and fashion shows, product launches and presentations of all types as well as theme parks, visitor attractions and other permanent installations.

USA - The week of June 7-11, the Wybron Mobile Showroom begins its ninth leg, hitting New York-city area locations.

The Mobile Showroom presents a survey of Wybron's stable of products, including the new Cygnus LED Wash Light, in a environment more intimate than a trade show. "The challenge of this industry is to actually get information to the people who will benefit from it," said Wybron, Inc. CEO Keny Whitright. "A trade show is terrific, sure, but you're often lacking time to connect with all the folks you would like to."

The Mobile Showroom will continue with nearly two years of planned stops across North America, with the next being in Massachusetts and the Boston areas.

Denmark - The Black Diamond, a concert hall at the Royal Library in Copenhagen, has started using ETC Source Fours with enhanced definition lens tube (EDLT) to provide backdrops for the stage.

Purchased as part of an ongoing project to equip the venue with ETC equipment, the venue found that they could mount the two new luminaires in front of the backdrop and project a Rosco Fiery Sun gobo for a bright, precise effect.

The Black Diamond technician S°ren Jacobsen says, "I have worked with sound for over 25 years, but it's only in the past three years that I have started working in lighting. Our local ETC dealer, Bico Professionel, has been really useful in helping me select the products I need and assisting with design and set up of the systems. We only needed a couple ETC Source Fours equipped with a 36ยบ EDLT to provide a stunning effect. We projected the light from

Europe - Alicia Keys' 2010 Freedom Tour of North America and Europe has seen a stunning set design from Baz Halpin, using multiple GLP impressions for the first time.

Running until early summer the tour was designed to promote Keys' 2009 album release, The Element Of Freedom.

Touring much the same production as on the American leg (the prime difference being the scaling down of the nine video screens to five), the show has been programmed by Bryan Barancik (of Luxious Design) who has been with the tour from the beginning, and has been tasked with bringing the best out of Halpin's creative concept.

The set designer was first shown the compact LED washlight by GLP's director of key global players, Mark Ravenhiil, when he was searching for small fixtures to be placed on top of the curved set pieces. "I needed something light and bright - and the impressions f
