A creative show design team from Painting with Light, led by Luc Peumans, delivered the stunning set, video and lighting that helped present a cutting-edge live version of top-rated Belgian comedy TV show Tegen De Sterren Op (Against the Stars) at Antwerp Sportpalais for two performances of the satirical impressionist show.

This year's event was the third time that production company DEDS IT has staged the 'live' TDSO show for broadcaster VTM, and the first time at the massive Sportpalais venue.

Luc created a bespoke digital scenery concept for the first TDSO live show a year ago (at the nearby Lotto Arena) and this was utilized again to replicate the large golden portal / pros arch that is instantly recognisable from the TV show.

In the Sportpalais, this measured 18m wide by 9 high, and upstage was an 18m wide by 9m high block of LED screen which split in the m

UK - The Rogue R2 Wash from Chauvet Professional was selected to light the London Mayor's office for a get-out-and-vote campaign in advance of the recent mayoral election.

SXS Events specified 16 Rogue R2 Washes to illuminate the iconic Norman Foster-designed office building, which sits on the River Thames near the Tower Bridge. The RGBW LED fixtures were used to wash the entire edifice and draw attention to an HD-projected image displaying the words: "5 May: Have your say."

When the PR and communications office of the electoral campaign approached SXS for a solution that would communicate the message of the May 5 vote, the team at SXS looked to Chauvet's Rogue to supply a powerful saturated wash in a bid to draw attention to the unusual cylindrical-shaped building with light.

"We wanted to incorporate the Rogues in this particular installation, because we knew they co

Germany - With Sun Nan headlining, alongside artists such as Jordan Chan (Chan Siu-Chun), Guangzhou-based Ruisheng Lighting & Audio fielded an array of cutting-edge LED technology from GLP, for whom they are the Chinese distributor, at the recent ZhaoQing Dinghushan Music Festival in the province of Guangdong.

The sound and lighting company welcomed the opportunity to participate and equipped the main stage with a series of high-output products from the German manufacturer's X4 range.

These included multiples of X4 LED heads (featuring 19 x 15W RGBW LEDs), the larger X4 L (37 x 15W RGBW LED), X4 Bar 20 (20 x 1-meter long lighting battens) - and other new generation fixtures.

Ruisheng Lighting & Audio's Jianwei Chen comments: "The GLP effects added brilliant colour and lighting stability to the set and produced an outstanding and eye-catching performance."

South Africa - Ampere is the latest Cape Town based rental and technical production company to invest in Robe Pointe moving lights, adding eight fixtures to their hire stock.

The company was founded in 2009 by Justin Fish whilst still studying at the University of Cape Town. Graduating in 2011, Ampere's growth trajectory has been impressive and interesting, currently with 30 full time employees and a busy order book ranging from top end corporate events to music festivals.

They have an open policy when it comes to brands, and the Pointes are their first Robe purchase, delivered via South African distributor DWR's Cape Town office run by Bradley Bruchhausen.

"We think Robe is definitely making the best multi-purpose beam fixture right now," confirms Justin.

Ampere has frequently cross-hired Robe products for various projects as needed over the last couple of years,

Germany - Creative director JoJo Tillmann brought his vast experience to bear on the recent tour by Lena Meyer-Landrut, the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest winner.

After working with the artist last year, the TV and concert lighting specialist decided on a new approach when the club tour resumed in early 2016, enlisting the help of GLP and its LED portfolio.

Knowing that Lena is one of the faces of L'Oréal, and that the light should be concentrated on haloing this feature, he had the Karlsbad manufacturer produce special versions of the X4 atom, replacing the high output quad colour purely with cold and warm white LEDs.

He explained the rationale thus, "I like to approach the design from a 'content' perspective, and in this case not use any colour - and she immediately bought into the idea of using [the atom] as a low, floor-based front light.

UK - In September 2015 New Order released their tenth Music Complete album and started the live tour to support the work, which to date has included tours of the UK, Europe, Asia and is set to visit the US, Japan, Australia and then festivals this summer.

The band formed in 1980, and their long term New Order lighting designer Andy Liddle has also been a collaborator in the New Order live experience almost since then, joining in 1981!

This tour, he has used 16 x Robe BMFLs as the backbone of the lighting rig, together with other lights, controlled via an Avolites Arena console.

Andy chose BMFL Spots for their "amazing brightness, speed and optics" and positioned four of the lights on each one of four over-stage trusses, along with other lighting and GLUX video panels, trimmed at 7, 6, 6.5 and 1.5 metres, and positioned at 3, 6, 9m upstage, respectively.

UK - Show designer Bryan Leitch and lighting director Jamie Thompson from creative visual design specialist MIRRAD chose over 120 Robe moving lights among other fixtures to light YesLive 2016, a hi-energy showcase music performance and awards event staged at the London Roundhouse.

The annual YesLive show helps inspire 15 - 17 year olds to get involved in once-in-a-lifetime activities via the National Citizen Service (NCS) initiative. Bryan worked alongside CC Labs who commissioned MIRRAD to produce the show design and co-ordinate the visual production including lighting, set and video.

He and Jamie started with a series of four 3 x 2m 'scenic' screens curving around the back of the stage mimicking the curvature of the venue's famous architecture. A downstage centre video screen 6m wide by 3.5m high came in and out on a Kinesys system shielding the stage for changeovers.

Australia - Specialist lighting company, Chameleon Touring Systems has invested in a fleet of Solaris Flares from TMB, the powerful and flexible RGBW LED fixture that can wash, blind and strobe all at the same time. With around 1000 watts of LED generating more than 30,000 lumens of output at a 1200Hz refresh rate, lighting designers are loving the practical capabilities and creative possibilities that the Flare gives them.

"We first started looking at the flares when we saw them on a couple of specs," says Tony Davies, owner of Chameleon, "and a lot of the lighting designers we regularly work with were also expressing interest." Chameleon were impressed with the Flare's specs and unique capabilities, and invested heavily; a move that has more than paid off, as the company are poised to expand their Flare inventory further.

"They're working hard," reports Tony. "They're go

USA - Located in Las Vegas, NV, Calvary Chapel Spring Valley is a growing worship family that is also dedicated to building a strong educational foundation through the Calvary Chapel Christian School on site as well.

As the congregation has now outgrown their current facility, they have temporarily relocated to the school's gymnasium in order to hold their worship services. With a desire to bring LED video into the new facility as well, Calvary Chapel then took this opportunity to incorporate the technology into the gymnasium environment and they did so using FLEXLite 3.99mm LED from PixelFLEX.

"When we began our capital building campaign, we knew we wanted LED video in our new worship facility, but we also needed it to help create a more ideal environment in the gymnasium during our relocation," began Tony Monto, Worship and Young Adults Pastor.

UK - When the PR and communications team needed to promote the importance of voting in the 2016 London Mayoral Elections they came to SXS for an exciting solution.

"It was vital that the message of the 5 May vote for Mayor was communicated through social media, mainstream media and by passers-by seeing the message," says project director Tim Curwen.

"Working with the client we decided that a projection and lighting installation onto the iconic London city hall would be ideal," He reports. "This constituted a powerful colour wash and HD projection of the key message. The response on the night was fantastic with many photographers and interview teams from major news networks coming to see the installation."

The installation required both high-impact lighting and some easily-readable text images. In order to achieve both in a way that could compete with high levels of amb

World - The lighting design for Adele's Live 2016 - World Tour was realised by Patrick Wodroffe with Adam Bassett as associate LD and Roland Greil working as programmer and lighting director on the road.

For lighting control the tour is using 2 x grandMA2 full-size, one grandMA2 light and five MA NPU (Network Processing Unit). Neg Earth supplied the lighting equipment for Europe, while Upstaging covered the US.

Woodroffe described his lighting design: "The stage design consists of a series of gauzes and projection surfaces that are constantly changing in position and purpose throughout the show. Sometimes Adele's face is seen on a rear screen, sometimes it appears in a much more abstract way on the front gauze and sometimes she is simply glimpsed through a video or lighting effect.

"The lighting supports this concept, not just in the way that it sets the mood and the f

USA - Three-time and reigning Male Vocalist of the Year at the ACM Awards, Jason Aldean, is currently on tour across America, having completed the Australian leg, with his We Were Here tour, named after his single Gonna Know We Were Here.

Lighting designer, Mike Swinford, of UpLate Design Inc, was intent on bringing a fresh new look to the country singer's headline tour, using modern technology and new lighting tools to achieve an inspirational design that would be very different from what Aldean was accustomed to. Included in his design are a plethora of lighting fixtures from Ayrton that include MagicDot-R, MagicRing-R9, IntelliPix-R and the award-winning MagicBlade-R.

"We wanted a departure from the very large 'rock' lighting look that we had last year," explains Swinford. "We started the current tour with a new set based upon many diamond shapes, with diamond-sh

UK - The Jamie Lloyd Company has built a reputation for creating innovative and energetic revivals of classic texts. Their most recent reinvention was Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, which recently opened at the Duke of York's Theatre in London's West End. In one of the most anticipated shows of the year, it stars Game of Thrones' Kit Harington and WL has been called upon to provide the lighting equipment.

Doctor Faustus tells the story of Faustus who makes a pact with the Devil, selling his soul in return for the ability to perform anything he desires through the power of black magic. This 400-year-old play has been given a modern rewrite by Colin Teevan, who has transported it into a celebrity-obsessed society of greed and instant gratification.

The lighting designer for the show is Jon Clark, who previously worked with the Jamie Lloyd Company on last

New Zealand - Popular vocal trio Sol3 Mio recently completed a very successful national tour which was lit by Joel Stanners using 16 x Robe BMFL Spots as the main hard edged fixtures. These were supplied by leading NZ lighting and production rental company Oceania from Auckland.

Joel has worked with the trio - classically trained brothers Pene and Amital Pati and their cousin Moses MacKay - for the last two years, and this was a completely new design involving a greater LED screen element than previously, together with more lighting. Set and video was designed by Pak Peacock and included a thrust stage that dropped to reveal three different levels - plus various height risers onstage to make the environment more off-beat and interesting.

Joel first listened intently to the music to get a feel for the flow and rhythm of the set and then started designing the lighting which

It marked the first time that an LP that was self-released, as well as independently distributed and promoted, accomplished that extraordinary feat. Despite this commercial success (26,000 copies of the album were sold the first week), the Amarillo, Texas-born singer and his band have remained true to their deeply rooted home values, both in the flavor of their music and their lifestyle.

In keeping with their basic sensibilities, the band is traveling in a single trailer while touring in support of their hit record. Packed on board are a collection of Rogue R1 Wash and R1 Spot fixtures from Chauvet Professional, supplied by 4Wall Entertainment Lighting.
