USA - Award-winning performance art company Blue Man Group has recently started incorporating Robe moving lights into their show at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Blue Man Group is a heady mega-mix of music, technology, art and excitement which immerses and delights audiences by wrapping them in its infectious beats and vibes. Lighting plays a crucial role with a dynamic and energetic maelstrom of colour, movement and emotion.

When Blue Man Group's Las Vegas show moved back to the Luxor at the end of 2015, it was an ideal opportunity to upgrade and change certain aspects of the lighting rig to optimize the more intimate venue.

The space ideally lent itself to more compact fixtures to fulfil Tony award-winning lighting designer Kevin Adams' visual concept, which had been developed in 2013 when the Blue Men had moved a new show into the Monte Carlo Hotel.

UK - A.C. Special Projects Ltd. (ACSP) has supplied and installed a bespoke hexagonal-shaped Traxon RGB LED lighting and control system, to provide decorative effects for the newly refurbished Buckingham Arcade in central London.

The lighting installation was the last part of a refurbishment programme by Land Securities to enhance the arcade, which runs from The Strand to Buckingham Street near Charing Cross Station.

In line with the client brief, ACSP proposed that Traxon 40PXL & 20PXL colour-changing, diffused LED Media Tubes were the best solution, given their IP66 / IP67 rating and robust design. It makes them ideal for withstanding the outdoor elements, particularly in a public environment.

"The designers wanted to implement a fluid movement of light through the arcade, in a hexagonal arrangement to create a sense of interest and interactivity. Traxon's Media Tube

Singapore / UK - The following global locations all have something in common and when the list is considered it is safe to say it's not the weather. The Esplanade, Singapore and The Everyman Theatre in Liverpool both offer their fair share of cultural enrichment but those in attendance in south-east Asia are unlikely to have battled their way through anything like a cold, damp Merseyside night before taking their seat. York's Theatre Royal and Salford University are white and red rose rivals respectively and certainly would recognise thick fog and drizzle but Istanbul's Zorlu Centre is used to an altogether different climate. The world famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London might enjoy a mad-dog English summer or two but that doesn't compare to the heat at The Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts...

Rather than a climatic connection, what is common to every one of thes

UK - Front of House engineer Chris Pollard has been touring with Mumford & Sons since their first album and is currently in the midst of the Band's epic An Arrow Through The Heartland tour, which started back in May 2015. Pollard's console of choice for the tour is the SSL L500 live console. "First and foremost," says Pollard, "This console sounds great. The sound quality is amazing."

The FOH path count for Mumford & Sons is large - it starts with around 76 inputs, but Pollard adds to that with extensive use of the L500's Stem bus type - a grouping bus with discrete send levels and full processing that can be picked from any one of six points on the contributing path, and routed anywhere, including to other stems.

By inserting an FX into a stem and routing channels to that stem, Pollard creates a fully processed auxiliary bus without requiring a separate return path

Australia - Travis Pastrana's Nitro Circus Live returned to Australia to launch its all new, 10th anniversary, party of the decade tour. Aussie fans were treated to a newly designed, multi-million dollar set for this live action-sports show.

George Gorga has been the audio director for Nitro Circus since the original MTV show first took to road six years ago. His biggest challenge is looking after himself during the rehearsals and main events.

"It's probably the most dangerous operating position I've ever worked in as normally we are out on the track," he remarked. "The likelihood of having a bike or skateboard land on you or getting blown up by a pyro is quite high. You really have to have your wits around especially during practice as the whole arena floor is the stage. It's like walking on a highway, you have to keep looking all around you."

South Africa - Lighting designer Tim Dunn from Gearhouse South Africa has seen technology swiftly evolve during his career.

"I worked on some of the first moving lights, and we all evolved from bashing dents out of parcans to become electronic technicians," Tim says. "Now we are in the networking age and we all need to become network technicians, (not a job that I ever wanted on my CV). The new switcher from MA is quite something; literally plug and play, and keeps the focus on the job at hand."

Tim was asked to be the lighting designer at the South African Film Awards (SAFTAs) held recently. He worked on a grandMA2 full size. "The show required a fast network," said Tim. "So Nick Britz of DWR brought along a MA Switch.

East Coast Lighting & Production Services (ECLPS) turned to Elation Professional's EPT6IP LED video displays as the main visual element of the set design, creating a dynamic false proscenium and dazzling LED panel 'sunburst' for the 2016 edition of the International Portuguese Music Awards held 23 April at the Zeiterion Theatre in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

The EPT6IP panels were hung from a box truss with a set of video legs upstage of that left and right. "The EPT6IP panels are very rigid structurally, so the legs hung easily and went up fast," said ECLPS's Nate Almeida, lighting designe
