UK - MI Pro reports that Live Culture Expo 2012 - the event production exhibition headed by former TPi editor Mark Cunningham - and Guitar Nation - the public MI show - have both been cancelled.

The announcement comes after months of speculation about Guitar Nation, which was scheduled to take place in late November at Wembley Stadium, whilst Live Culture was to launch next April.

"Guitar Nation, organised by Clive Morton's Norgaard Media, has been officially scrapped, with Morton blaming adverse trading conditions," say reports. However, they go on to add that Morton's former partner Graham Butterworth, who had been hired to sell stand space for Guitar Nation, claims that he has not been paid by Norgaard Media and left the company at the end of June.

Cunningham, who left Mondiale Publishing to work with Morton on the Wembley-based Live Culture, also says he has no

Europe - July and August have seen British artist Mika take a short summer holiday from recording his third album, The Origin Of Love, to play at 10 festivals across continental Europe. The shows provided an opportunity to give Sennheiser's latest large format condenser mic, the MK4, a live workout.

The festivals included events in Belgium, Corsica, France, Hungary, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Switzerland. Mika and his band had an array of Sennheiser equipment on stage and Front of House engineer Craig Pryde took the opportunity to put the new MK4 through its paces.

"I've used Sennheiser for a long time and I use their equipment with other artists, including Alexandra Burke and The Last Shadow Puppets," says Pryde. "I was looking for a large diaphragm condenser mic and so I approached Sennheiser UK's Mark Saunders, who suggested that I try the MK4."

USA - Our Lady of Victory National Shrine and Basilica is one of New York's popular tourist destinations. Long renowned for its impressive collection of religious artwork and breathtaking 19th century French architecture, the church receives nearly 2,000 visitors monthly who come to attend services or simply to view its magnificent structural design and awe-inspiring collection of religious sculptures and artwork.

The historical basilica is visually stunning but its vaulted ceilings and abundance of hard surfaces create acoustical challenges for audio engineers during religious services. Desiring to eliminate as much reverb as possible and increase speech intelligibility, Our Lady of Victory recently installed a Renkus-Heinz Iconyx digitally steerable line array system for enhanced sound quality.

Fringe Record - Sales of tickets at this year's Edinburgh Fringe are up by 3% on last year. According to figures released by the Fringe Society 1,877,000 tickets were sold by its box office over the last three and a half weeks. It is another increase on the record breaking sales achieved in 2010. Poor weather during August and a greater concentration of venues in one part of the city did not appear to have had an adverse effect on ticket sales. During the Fringe this year there were a record-breaking 2,542 shows, with about 21,000 performers presenting 41,689 performances in 258 venues.

Off Broadway - Broadway shows were cancelled on Saturday as New York braced itself for the full force of Hurricane Irene to strike. They included Cirque du Soleil's Zarkana at Radio City Music Hall and War Horse at Lincoln Center Theatre. "The safety and security of thea

UK - Techno DJ and producer, Dubfire, has been touring with Allen & Heath's new Xone:DB4 DJ FX mixer.

Formerly of duo, DeepDish, Dubfire's latest solo technical set up comprises the Xone:DB4 at the centre of two X1 controllers running Traktor and an iPad controlling Maschine and Ableton.

"The DB4 has been amazing. It's portable and lighter than other mixers and allows me to travel with my full DJ set up, including portable speakers, so I can even play with different parameters and experiment with my set up and build a good FX library in my hotel room. It's been fantastic," explains Dubfire.

"It's much easier having access to functions like FX and filters on the actual DJ mixer, whilst external devices are inside the software. I'm using the delays a lot because they sound so good, and I'm able to change the delay time so quickly. The A&H filtering, of course, i

USA - Running on a mere 189 watts of electricity, Elation Professional's new Platinum Beam 5R DMX ACL beam effect isn't an obvious choice for lighting up large outdoor concert venues. But this little moving head, powered by the Philips MSD Platinum 5R lamp, recently proved it had the beam brawn to illuminate, not one, but two shows in big open-air spaces: the L.A. Rising concert at the Los Angeles Coliseum, headlined by Rage Against the Machine; and Coldplay's performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which was staged in a tennis stadium and shot from overhead by a blimp.

Todd Roberts of Visions Lighting saved the day at L.A. Rising by substituting the Platinum Beam 5R, after the festival's original lighting proposal turned out to be too costly to execute. "I had a proposal for the L.A. Rising show that called for a lot of larger, higher-powered fixtures. But a week out, th
