Brazil - For 80 years, the widely recognizable Christ the Redeemer ('Monumento Cristo Redentor') statue has overlooked the city of Rio de Janeiro. Now, with help from Traxon Technologies & e:cue lighting control [in a partnership with Osram], the renowned monument will be seen in a completely new light thanks to an intelligent lighting system consisting of 260 Traxon Wall Washer Shield AC XB RGB and CW, and 40 Liner Shield AC XB-27 RGB fixtures with specially focused optics.

Traxon Technologies supplied the LED fixtures for the installation as well as a signature control system from e:cue lighting control, consisting of a Lighting Control Engine (LCE) and two Butler XTs. When combined, these technologies allow for each fixture in the installation to be individually aimed and adjusted so that the color and light intensity brilliantly illuminates the art deco statue of Christ prec

Australia - New home of the Black Swan and Perth Theatre companies, and located inside the $100 million State Theatre Centre, the Heath Ledger Theatre is a 575-seat, multi-purpose venue for music, dance, and theatre.

The need for a new theatre was established around two decades ago and the Centre has been a long time coming - the result is an elegant new city landmark at the heart of the Performing Arts Precinct in the Perth Cultural Centre. And at the heart of the Centre itself is the deep-toned, gold-and-timber sanctuary of the Heath Ledger Theatre, an inspiring tribute to its namesake and a beautiful space in which to perform.

The $100m Centre opened earlier this year to speeches from the West Australian Governor and Premier, as well as Nyoongar elders and leading Australian actors. In addition to the Heath Ledger Theatre, the Centre also houses a flexible, 230-seat undergr

UK - Liam Gallagher's new band, Beady Eye, have embarked on their debut tour with a dual Midas PRO6 system at FOH and on monitors, provided by Britannia Row Productions.

Midas has long been a favourite in the Oasis camp. FOH engineer Dan Lewis mixed the last few months of the band's final tour on an XL4, and along with Josh Lloyd on monitors, had no hesitation in spec'ing a pair of PRO6s for this tour.

The band has been playing small rock and roll venues such as Glasgow's Barrowlands, the Manchester Apollo and East London's Troxy, before hitting club venues across Europe and back to the UK for some academy dates in April.

Lewis had previously used an XL8 for Noel Gallagher's Teenage Cancer Trust performance. "This was the perfect opportunity to give the PRO6 a try," he says. "I've deliberately gone for a very simple set-up as they're not a complicated band, I'

USA - As the lighting designer for the Professional Bull Riders Tour (PBR), Nelson Meeks faces some big challenges keeping his gear running smoothly during the PBR's intense 10-month national touring schedule.

Not only do the lighting products used on the PBR tour have to be tough enough to withstand flying soil and debris, they have a wide range of other demands placed on them too, says Meeks. The lighting must be "studio-friendly" enough to provide illumination for the sport's weekly televised events, as well as for photo and video shoots. Additionally, it must be able to light up live musical performances and guest artists that are part of the entertainment at PBR shows.

So when he expanded his rig for the 2011 tour, Meeks wanted lighting products that were both tough and versatile and opted for Elation Professional.

The PBR had used Elation light fixtures in th

Italy - Clay Paky was a leading player in the 2011 edition of the Sanremo Music Festival, which has been the biggest music event on Italian television now for over 60 years.

The scenery, once again designed by architect Gaetano Castelli, had a futuristic appearance. The classic staircase was replaced by a long spiral ramp that looked almost like the course of a video game. It conveyed the message that "tradition and modernity merge at Sanremo and set trends".

Work on the set and fittings started back in November and entailed the services of specialised scenery technicians and riggers. The result was one of the largest s

Their facilities include a fully equipped 492 seat proscenium arch theatre and a 200 seat performing arts space. For many years the lighting department had been using an old Strand 520 console and recently it was retired from service.

"It was getting a bit long in the tooth especially when it came to moving lights," said Jayson Bowles, technical coordinator at the centre. "Out of the current crop of consoles on the market we found that the ETC Ion 1500 covered our needs. It's similar in operation to the Strand console so our guys picked it up fairly quickly and of course, the moving light side of things is a huge improvement over the old Strand! We looked at the current Strand off

The venue itself is a challenge for theatre sound designers as it does not have the most friendly acoustics, but Higson and Portway combined their experience and got "a fairy tale ending" with the AXYS system.

"Ross and I had been looking for an opportunity to use the Scope system for a while and Bournemouth pantomime proved to be a great time to put the system to the test." commented Jon Higson.
