UK - Professional lighting sales company Lightfactor enjoyed a busy PLASA 2012 exhibition at Earls Court in London, with lots of activity on the stand and plenty of interest in key product ranges.

Says Lightfactor's Peter Coles, "It was another good show for us. Lightfactor specialises in offering a variety of different high quality products, and there is definitely a market demand right now for 'quality'. Other than that, we saw many existing and a good selection of potential new customers."

Lightfactor chose the show to launch its new exclusive distribution partnership with soundlight.de, German manufacturers of a whole range of neat and handy DMX tools. This generated a real buzz and attendees were impressed with the RDM and systems relay widgets in particular.

UK - Track solutions specialist Triple E has launched a new motorised curtain track system in the beautiful surroundings of the King's Theatre, Southsea - and marked the occasion by donating one to the venue.

Triple E's managing director David Edelstein, who formed the company in 1984 to supply the entertainment industry with mechanical products to aid the assembly and construction of stage scenery, unveiled SDRIVE, a track mounted motor for moving stage curtains, on Monday 24 September.

And in a generous offer, Triple E presented the King's Theatre, which is relying on the kindness of volunteers and businesses to help restore it to famed architect Frank Matcham's original vision, with the motor. The theatre is now the first in the UK to have the system installed.

UK - displayLED has helped electronic musician Squarepusher stretch artistic boundaries on his current world tour with the use of possibly the smallest ever LED screen in a live performance.

The artist uses just a single tile of displayLED's flexible LED product digiFLEX to create a futuristic display on a helmet.

The helmet uses the musician's own software to convert sound to graphics, which appear on the visor during the performance and tie in with imagery on the larger screens of the show's backdrop. The artist has toured in the USA, Europe and Brazil and appeared at events including Sonar 2012, Spain, Bloc 2012, London, UK, and Dour Festival, Belgium, this summer.

UK - XL Video is supplying a high power projection system and Green Hippo Hippotizer i7 HD media servers for Mercury prize winning UK indie band The xx, who are currently in the middle of an 18 month world tour having just released their second album, Coexist.

The highly innovative projection-based visual design was originated by Tobias G Randler, and then modified on the road by lighting director and lighting/video operator Michael Straun.

The design has evolved and grown, and currently five projectors are being utilised in total. UK - Live event technical solutions provider, Universal Event Productions (UEP) from Buckinghamshire has formed a new specialist Sales Division as part of the planned expansion of its business.

This will focus on supplying a selection of professional audio, AV and lighting products and accessories that are not currently directly available in the UK.

This privately-owned mid-sized venue includes a 935-seat auditorium for productions like the annual Novel Hall dances series, Chinese opera and a variety of touring shows. Live News - UK venues with a capacity of under 200 people will no longer need a licence for live amplified music. The change in law is part of a government move to free businesses from red tape, which ministers say will give them more freedom to grow. UK Music, which represents the music industry, estimates that the Live Music Act could enable 13,000 more venues to start holding live music events. Live unamplified music can also now be played in any location under the act.

Business Minister Michael Fallon said, "From today [Monday] businesses are freed from the red tape that holds them back."
