UK - KV2 Audio's Classic Series has evolved from a common belief among classical and jazz musicians that speaker systems dramatically colour and tarnish a performance. This is particularly noticeable in the reduction of the extreme dynamics found in live classical music and the lack of real high frequency, instead adding a distortion which creates a harsh brash sound for many instrumental, choral or vocal performances. This effect often worsens as the signal becomes more complex, loosing intricate details of the composition in favour of an increasingly cacophonic noise floor.

During a year of testing, KV2 invited over 300 performers to come and experience the effect of listening to their chosen instrument through the Classic Series in a concert hall environment. The results were "phenomenal", says the company.

UK - The power of entertainment lighting to create atmosphere and influence mood has long been recognised in theatre and live events. At the Roe Green Junior School in Brent, staff decided to incorporate theatrical-style lighting to let them quickly change the decoration of their new library and childrens' lounge to match different stories. A particular challenge was that the school is committed to sustainability as part of the Groundwork London One World Schools programme; the library was part of a building newly refurbished, using sustainable materials, with even the curtains sourced from Fairtrade-certified suppliers. UK - Nexo's new 45°N-12 stage monitors have been chosen by Russell Watson for his UK tour.

Watson is the first British artist to tour with the N-12 wedges. "It's about time someone designed a wedge using modern technology," says Watson's system engineer Mike Savage.

With a 38-piece orchestra behind him, Russell Watson patrols an area across the front of the stage, demarcated by four Nexo N-12 monitors, coupled in pairs. "He moves around quite a lot," says Savage, "hence the need for two pairs of wedges, which give us a defined area but without any hotspots."

Watson's sound team is led by Max Bisgrove at front-of-house, with Brandon Reece on monitors and Mike Savage in the overall system designer role. "With Russell, it's all about his voice. He's an opera singer, so tone and phrase are all-important; he needs a crystal-clear monitor out
