UK - Brilliant Stages has supplied three towering inflatable puppets and a circular projection screen for Roger Waters The Wall Live tour, the European leg of which began earlier this month.

Standing over 9m tall, three iconic images of the Teacher, the Wife and the Mother are supplied, complete with the mechanics and automation to operate them, inside inflatable skins from Air Artists.

The Teacher and Wife puppets require extensive animation so Brilliant Stages devised a system of cradles and winches to facilitate this. The puppets are suspended by fine steel wire ropes attached to individual electric winches mounted into a compact cradle. The winches move the limbs independently whilst the cradle carrying the winches also slews to enable the puppets to turn 180°.

The Netherlands - The media city of Hilversum, half an hour from Amsterdam, home to most of the Netherlands' leading television and radio broadcasters, is now the proud possessor of a new, a highly striking €11.8m concert building, with new sound and lighting systems from sister Ampco Flashlight Group companies TM Audio and Lightco respectively.

De Vorstin Poppodium ('The Queen Pop Stage'), a complex steel structure, that looks like a space-age remodelling of Manhattan's Flatiron Building, has no internal right angles - good news for the acoustics.

It was designed by Architecten Cie, which also has the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam to its credit, and similar attention to detail can be found at De Vorstin. High quality finishes and a wide range of additional facilities including a rehearsal studio add to features such as a dedicated artists' café.

Australia - At first glance, Moorebank Sports Club in southern Sydney appears to be located in an ideal position when it comes to neighbours who complain about noise leakage. However, even though the Club is surrounded by a large car park, fields and bush land and the nearest neighbour is over 250m away, there were still noise issues.

The Club, known locally as Sporties, has been extensively renovated over the past two years to include a new gaming room, TAB, bar, café and multiple lounge areas. In an attempt to make the Club more family friendly, they have also added a kids club called Manta Ray, an outdoor play gym and are building a parents room at the present time.

The aim was to create a comfortable environment with relaxed areas for people to unwind in however the Club's neighbours and poker machine players were not relaxing when the amplified music began.

COW has been offering advanced specification motion control systems for the last five years. Developed in house, COW specialises in these applications where load mon
