USA - Upgrading its audio infrastructure to deliver a more immersive experience to its partners, the not-for-profit Mount Baker Theatre in Bellingham, Washington, recently installed a Soundcraft Vi1 digital console.

The Mount Baker Theatre provides its guests with a variety of Broadway and off Broadway shows, local productions of Broadway shows, symphonies, local musical acts and dance recitals. As a non-profit organization, the theatre works to enrich the culture and reinforce a sense of community within the region.

"The Vi1 is a console you can jump right on, whether you are a seasoned pro or a new user, which is why we were able to transition to the digital board so quickly," stated technical director John Bauer. "There were distinct improvements in the Vi1's sound, so we are very happy with our console choice."

UK - A.C. Entertainment Technologies' rigging division will be running three further two-day Rigging Training Schools during 2011 at the LS-Live Studio in Wakefield, with the first event taking place on 29-30 March.

The second Rigging School will take place on 8-9 June, with a third event to be held in September (dates still to be confirmed).

The Rigging School is a training partnership between A.C. Rigging, leading trussing and staging manufacturer Prolyte and Backstage Academy, the Wakefield based initiative offering various types of entertainment industry training.

UK - Satisfactorily marrying historic buildings to the ever-more complex audio/visual requirements of the 21st Century is a delicate and complex business, but a new installation at one of the UK 's most famous churches - London's Westminster Abbey - has achieved the appropriate balance.

Designed by audio consultants Michael Hyland & Associates, installed by Winchester?based Whitwam and supervised by the Abbey's clerk of the works, the project has included the installation of speech reinforcement, induction loop and CCTV systems, along with video, audio and data distribution facilities.

The installation and commissioning of the new system was carried out with no impact on the building's daily services, the many other events which take place there and the large number of visitors.

The Sydney Catholic Vocational College is a multipurpose training facility catering for students who wish to learn skills ranging from hospitality, video recording, audio recording and production for live theatre.

UK - The Alan Titchmarsh Show is back for another series assisted by lighting designer Roger Williams and Richard Martin Lighting. There are some significant changes to this season's shows.

Not only has the slot for the show gone back to its original air time of every week day at 3pm, it is also now has a new home as it is filmed at The London Studios.

Rob Halliday is based in London and has been travelling the world working on theatre productions for more than 15 years, as lighting designer, lighting programmer or visiting speaker at drama schools such as the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts and trade shows such as Showlight, PLASA and LDI.

Along the way he has written about the shows he has been involved with and any other interesting ones he stumbled across for a variety of magazines including Lighting&Sound International and Lighting&Sound America, the best of those articles now collected together in the books Entertainment In Production vols 1 and 2.

Opened in late 2010, the Bemidji Regional Event Centre (BREC) is an 185,000sq.ft multi-purpose facility with an arena and exhibition space. The arena seats 4,700 for ice hockey but can accommodate up to 6,000 for concert events. The venue is the new home to the Division 1 Bemidji State University men's and women's hockey teams.

UK - Liam Gallagher's new band, Beady Eye, have embarked on their debut tour with a dual Midas PRO6 system at FOH and on monitors, provided by Britannia Row Productions.

Midas has long been a favourite in the Oasis camp. FOH engineer Dan Lewis mixed the last few months of the band's final tour on an XL4, and along with Josh Lloyd on monitors, had no hesitation in spec'ing a pair of PRO6s for this tour.

The band has been playing small rock and roll venues such as Glasgow's Barrowlands, the Manchester Apollo and East London's Troxy, before hitting club venues across Europe and back to the UK for some academy dates in April.
