UK - It's been a busy summer season of corporate lighting projects for White Light, with the Corporate Lighting team led by Steve Bartlett dealing with events ranging from the Labour Party's pre-election tour to the 30th anniversary screening of Jaws on Brighton beach in front of more than 15,000 people.

Labour's pre-election tour saw White Light working with production company Potcakes on the campaign which covered a wide variety of venues. Since the election, White Light has been involved with the Quincentenary of Christ's College Cambridge and the V Fest lit by lighting designer Chris Biddolph; two events for Barclays at the Excel Centre with lighting designer Tim Ball, and the summer season at the Honorary Artillery Company, lit by Jason Larcombe and Simon Jones.

China - Britain's leading induction loop design and manufacturing company Ampetronic has scored a double first in China: the first 'first' was to appoint Shenzhen-based Amtor Ltd as its first Chinese distributor. The next, following on from the deal, is that Amtor is designing what it claims to be the very first induction loop system ever to be installed in China - using Ampetronic equipment.

The system is being designed for the Chengdu Handicapped Healing Centre, an eight-floor facility that will offer education, healthcare, healing and entertainments services. 10 induction loops will be installed, using Ampetronic ILD20, ILD60, ILD122, ILD252 loop amplifiers.

Unlike in the Western world, China currently has no legislation that requires induction loops to be installed, as Amtor's Tony Xu explains: "Induction loops are both a new idea and new technology for China. Governm

UK - The RNID and the TUC are warning that changes in the Licensing Act, allowing 24 hour opening, will lead to an increased likelihood of workers in bars, clubs and pubs being exposed to dangerously loud noise for longer. They fear extended opening hours will mean the 568,000 people already working in this growing industry will be subjected to music so loud they could lose or permanently damage their hearing.

Noise at Work is the theme of this year's European Week for Safety and Health at Work (24-30 October 2005). Noise is one of the most underestimated workplace risks and RNID, the largest charity representing the nine million deaf and hard of hearing people in the UK, and the TUC is urging employers to do more to protect workers' hearing. Excessive noise in the workplace has caused half a million people in Great Britain to suffer deafness or other ear conditions, they say, a

UK - Renowned touring theatre company, Kneehigh, recently purchased a 24-channel Allen & Heath GL4800 multi-purpose live sound mixer for use on the national tour of their play, Tristan & Yseult.

"The GL4800 was purchased specifically for the Tristan & Yseult production but it is a long term investment for future shows," says sound designer Greg Clarke. "We needed to upgrade our old desk in both quality and capacity, especially as the company relies heavily on live music in performance. We are really happy with the sonic quality of the GL, plus it's a versatile board with all the bells and whistles. It is simply a tremendous desk for the price point, and it's British!"

The play was staged at the National Theatre in London during the spring, and the Company recently embarked on a UK tour including dates at the Bristol Old Vic, Nottingham Playhou

Czech Republic - The biggest annual hip-hop festival in Central and Eastern Europe took place for the fourth time in the abandoned section of a former military airport, close to the City of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic recently.

With more than 16,000 hip-hop fans attending Hip Hop Kemp 2005, the event became the most successful to date. Although the weather was far from perfect, and heavy rains complicated the preparation for the event, the summer miraculously returned on the first morning and temperatures exceeding 27°C persisted throughout the entire three days. This, coupled with big name line-ups and nine stages serving up non-stop music, resulted in a fantastic overall atmosphere.

Urei took control of the second largest stage - situated in a giant steel concrete military hanger - which saw performances from many of the world's top DJs, MCs and hip-hop bands. Furt
