France - Major refurbishment work at Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport includes a new all-digital PA and emergency sound system with over 1000 loudspeakers. Bosch Security Systems and the voice-data-image communication specialists Axians, based in France, cooperated closely to put together a system based around Bosch's Praesideo digital PA and emergency sound system.

The main point for the choice of the Bosch system, says the company, was the fact that Praesideo easily met the tough EVAC requirements for Terminal 1 and is "far more cost-effective than would be possible with an analogue system". Additionally, the system has been independently certified to the IEC 60849 safety standard.

Terminal 1, which handles the bulk of the international traffic of Paris' largest airport, presents special challenges for a PA installation. Managing the flights of around 60 airl

Europe - Lighting designer Craig Allnutt is using an Avolites Diamond 4 console on the current Bloc Party UK and European tour. Allnutt joined the Bloc Party team in February 2005 following the NME tour and had previously worked with Keane.

"I particularly like the way the Diamond 4 is set up and the fact that you can patch anything to anywhere," says Allnutt. "It's very simple to pick up, particularly if you have an Avolites background."

The rig on Bloc Party is slightly asymmetric to match the non-conventional nature of the band and their music. The rig consists of two 40ft trusses - front and rear - the upstage of which has four truss drop-beams off the bottom rail. There are five truss towers onstage all at different heights, to 'break up' the overall appearance of the space.
