USA - Some of the University of Tennessee's most exemplary students arrived at Legislative Plaza 17 February to share the impact the university has had on their lives at the 10th Annual UT Day on the Hill. Bandit Lites provided the lighting for the event which was coordinated by The UT Office of Government Relations and Advocacy.

Bandit provides these services at no cost as a means of giving back. Bandit set the stage floor with VL 2500s to cover the room with patterns and colors, while GRNLite LED Battens lit the upper balcony walls. ZR 44 smoke machines gave the senators and representatives a dramatic entrance. Additional lighting came from custom UT gobos shot with ETC 5 degree ellipsoidal, while the stage lighting and control was provided by the venue.

UK - When the European premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens came to London, Utopium were on hand to illuminate the red carpet royalty and Nelson's Column.

Thousands of dedicated fans flocked to London to celebrate the latest instalment in the Star Wars franchise, where Stormtroopers and Jedi knights joined the cast and celebrities for the biggest premiere of the year.

It was in Leicester Square that the cast and crew were joined by celebrity guests, as the area around the Empire and Odeon cinemas were transformed into a space-themed venue.

LED lighting from SGM illuminated the entire length of the red carpet, as well as the two cinemas and the stage set where the world's media captured the stars.

Germany - Every year, during Marburg b(u)y Night, Marburg city centre lights up: more than sixty public and private buildings become the stars of the show, and the shops stay open until midnight. The centrepiece of the event this year was the Blickpunkt Schloss project - with lighting up and regular intervals backed with appropriate music. Flashlight Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH dealt with staging the events.

Among the equipment the company chose to use were 39 Clay Paky Mythos units, one grandMA light, one onPC command wing, one 8Port Node onPC and four VPU plus MK2s (video processing units). An MA remote control system was also installed to control the lighting around the castle using tablet computers. The show was pre-programmed with the help of a 3D MA and a 3D model of Marburg castle.

Germany - Six years after Martin Audio's MLA system made its world deb MLAut with veteran Hamburg hip hop band Fettes Brot, the system's first adopter - Complete Audio's André Rauhut - has just completed another successful tour of duty, this time supporting the band's Teenager vom Mars tour.

Although the tour originally kicked off early in 2015 using largely local PA, the production values were ramped up towards the end of the year when Fettes Brot played venues ranging from around 3,500 to 15,000.

The Berlin-based production company based its rig design around a core of between 7 and 10 MLA cells per side, plus MLD Downfill - and depending on venue size, they also carried 12 x MLA Compacts for out-fills in the larger venues. Along the front of the stage, 14 MLX were set up as a broadside cardioid array.

In the 10 years since the organisation was founded events and tours have been held around the US and the entire world. LumenRadio develops, manufactures and sells equipment for wireless radio communication. The products are based on multiple patents, where the basic idea is to enable reliable communication without interference in a world where the available frequency space becomes more and more limited.

Headline News - Muse have been announced as the Friday night headliners on the Pyramid Stage at this year's Glastonbury Festival. The Friday slot makes Muse the first band to have headlined every night of the festival - they played on Saturday night in 2010, and Sunday in 2004. USA - Martin by HARMAN lighting fixtures were at the centre of the annual Los Angeles holiday special, L.A. Zoo Lights, a not-to-be-missed night time light show extravaganza. Martin MAC Quantum Washes and MAC Quantum Profiles were chosen to provide innovative designs for the event. The fixtures were part of an elaborate water, light and laser show that takes place a few times a day at a vacant sea lion exhibit.

This year's event, both bigger and brighter than last year's, included self-guided tours of an expanded area of the zoo, featuring all-new LED lights, lasers, 3D projections and a musical water-and-light display. L.A. Zoo Lights is produced in collaboration with theatrical set designer Gregg Lacy and Bionic League, a production design company known for innovative, large-scale events and stage credits that include Daft Punk, Deadmau5 and Kanye West.

Germany - GLP has taken a major step to boost its domestic sales force in the face of increasing product demand, by recruiting one of its former senior employees.

Dejan Hajdukovic, who had been part of the sales team between 2008-2012, returns as sales manager, and will be based at company HQ in Karlsbad, Germany.

Dejan brings a wide network of contacts, particularly in the lighting design and rental company sectors. Now he will team up with key account manager Oliver Schwendke to undertake responsibility for field sales, largely in the southern part of the country.

Having started his professional career in the hotel and catering industry, he says that lighting had always been a hobby "and in 2008 GLP offered me the opportunity to turn this into a profession".

As the complete supplier of rigging and drapes to the live events industry, Blackout has recently worked on projects such as the BRIT Awards, the National Television Awards, London International Horse Show and The Sound of Music Live.

Duke has worked for Blackout as a freelancer since 2000 and now joins the team on a permanent basis; overseeing sight visits, quoting, logistics and overall project management. His 18 years of experience in the rigging industry has seen him work on the 2012 London Olympics Opening Ceremony, Les Miserablés Korea, and international theatre productions.
