UK - Opening this week at The Playhouse Theatre in London's West End, The End of Longing marks the playwriting debut of Friends star Matthew Perry, who also takes on the lead role. The play is set in modern-day Los Angeles and follows the story of four people searching for meaning as they enter their forties. White Light was asked to provide the lighting for the production.

The show is being lit by Lucy Carter, whose previous lighting design credits include Love and Money (The Old Vic), Blurred Lines (The National Theatre) and numerous credits with The Royal Ballet. South Africa - Distributors for Harman Professional, Wild & Marr will be hosting JBL certified VTX Line Array Training that will take place on 1-2 March 2016. This will be held at MGG Productions, Marlboro, Johannesburg.

The course is the first JBL Certified VTX Training event to be held in South Africa. It will be hosted by Harman senior application engineer for tour sound, Ed Jackson. The course will cover in-depth line array theory and practical hands-on use of JBL VTX Array and Crown HD V-Racks. This provides a good opportunity for all attendees to rig the equipment and to listen to it when it is flown.

Sessions are open to audio industry professionals on a reservation basis, with preference shown to VTX or Vertec system owners.

All attendees must bring a laptop running Windows, with Performance Manager installed and operating before class commences.

USA - To say that Fetty Wap's career has taken off like a rocket since he burst on the music scene in February 2014 is an understatement. In the history of popular music, only two artists have seen their first three singles occupy top 11 positions on Billboard's Hot 100 Chart at the same time. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old New Jersey-born rapper's magic ride came to a sudden pause in September 2015, when he suffered serious injuries in a motorcycle accident. USA - A contemporary musical that follows the life of a city planner rebuilding and restarting her life in New York City, If/Then enjoyed a successful run on Broadway and has now embarked on its inaugural tour starring Tony-Award winner Idina Menzel.

In preparing the production to travel across North America, projection designers Peter Nigrini and Dan Scully were asked to reimagine the original production with a new projection and LED video component that would allow the tour to maintain the same visually dynamic impact as the original design. Working with event technology provider WorldStage, Nigrini and Scully identified and implemented a LED video design comprised of 22 FLEXCurtain HD LED screens from PixelFLEX.

USA - On 31 December, the 2015 Capital One Orange Bowl football game took place at Sunlife Stadium between the Clemson University Tigers and the University of Oklahoma Sooners football teams. As is the case with all big, season-ending games, the halftime show at this 82nd annual event was nothing short of spectacular. In recent years, the artist roster has included Taylor Hicks with Gladys Knight, ZZ Top, The Doobie Brothers, Kool and the Gang, and Train, to name just a few. This year's headliner was the singer, songwriter and guitarist John Fogerty.

With 68,000 spectators in attendance and millions more watching on television, the halftime extravaganza required a massive sound reinforcement setup with top-notch performance. To ensure the show went off without an audible hitch, loudspeakers from Valencia, Spain-based D.A.S. Audio were placed into service.

USA - The Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS), the not-for-profit organization of broadcast and media industry suppliers, formed to promote open standards and interoperability in the transition to IP, has appointed its board and the chairs and deputy chairs for its newly formed marketing and technical working groups.

The AIMS board has been appointed, comprising three directors, chairman Michael Cronk (SVP, strategic marketing, Grass Valley), vice-chairman Steve Reynolds (CTO, Imagine Communications) and Financial Officer Andreas Hilmer (director of marketing & communications, Lawo).

USA - Lighting designer Tom Kenny turned to Elation Professional's new Platinum FLX hybrid moving head to light Pitbull's New Year's Revolution television special, broadcast live on Fox television to a nationwide audience on New Year's Eve.

This was Kenny's first year doing the show and his first opportunity to use the award-winning Platinum FLX luminaire. "I'd been looking at Elation for quite a while," he said, "and had the chance to use 60 Platinum Series fixtures on last year's MTV European Music Awards show in Milan, which worked out really well. For the Pitbull New Year's Eve show, they wanted more of a live concert feel so I turned to the Platinum FLX fixture and was impressed with the looks it gave."

USA - Five dedicated families founded Stony Point Reformed Presbyterian Church in the Bon Air suburb of Richmond, Virginia in 1969. A big part of its steady growth and support has been its strong commitment to motivating and punctuating services with music in an ever-changing variety of contemporary and classical styles.

In short, music is a big deal at Stony Point. Different bands play each week with a lot of reliance on the congregation's many musically talented individuals. When the church built a new 500-seat sanctuary, everyone wanted a new sound reinforcement system that could help elevate the impact and emotion of its services. In consultation with the Richmond-based AV integration firm RTW Media, Stony Point installed a robust LCR system composed of Danley Sound Labs loudspeakers, subwoofers, and DSP-enabled amplifiers.

Israel - Music School is a successful Israeli reality TV programme broadcast on national Channel 2, where 16 young people get the chance to be mentored and trained by four professional singers, giving their talents an opportunity to shine through.

Top Israeli LD Ronen Najar created a lighting scheme for the latest series which was recorded at the Russell theatre in Ramatgan, Tel Aviv, where he included 11 x Robe BMFL Spots, six MMX Spots, together with eight LEDBeam 100s around the back of the audience in his design.

All the Robes were provided by lighting rental company Argaman Systems and programmed and run by Ronen on a grandMA2 console.

Now in its third edition, the series has no vote-offs or negative judgements. All the finalists get a chance to impress the audiences both live and on TV - who can vote for their favourite at the end of the series.

South Africa - Hilton College nestling in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands hills north of Durban home to Hilton College, a boarding school set in a large estate with its own wildlife reserve. Hilton College has its own theatre on campus - which is the owner of a new dot2 core console from MA Lighting.

The 471 seat venue modelled on the Elizabeth Sneddon theatre in Durban hosts around four or five major productions throughout the year and is utilised by the Drama, Music and Art departments over the academic year. It is also a receiving house for outside shows including the yearly Think Theatre Shakespearian production on the KZN national curriculum, which this year is Othello.

The space is additionally used for school presentations, events and assemblies, and it's the main venue for the annual Hilton Arts Festival. Staged in and around the extensive grounds over three days

Belgium - The Dommelhof theatre in the north eastern Belgian town of Neerpelt has invested in 36 ETC ColorSource PAR LED fixtures, with help from ETC's Benelux dealer, FACE. The lighting is already being used as a fixed installation in the building's atrium and as a flexible addition to the main lighting rig.

The Atrium space, with eight of the fixtures, is primarily used for rock 'n' roll and jazz events, and occasionally for theatre shows, so the fixtures needed to be suitable for as wide a range of applications as possible. The remaining 28 units will be used to expand the lighting system in the main theatre space and to improve its existing setup.
