USA - After a severe storm flooded their sanctuary, Castle Hills Church of San Antonio, Texas, undertook a major rebuilding project and added a new AV system with an Allen & Heath dLive S Class Digital Mixing System at FOH and an ME-1 Personal Mixing System at monitors.
The church partnered with Skylark AV of Oklahoma City to design and install the new AV and lighting package and help them develop a masterplan for this project and future expansion.
Tim Vencil, Castle Hills, technical director, explains the church’s mixer choice: “We had been using a smaller digital mixer. But, for the new worship space, we needed more than just a bigger board. I wanted an ‘infrastructure’ that would support our in-ear system, our streaming broadcast and everything else in the room.”

Italy - The AES Milan 144th International Convention, taking place 23-26 May, opened on Wednesday under this year’s theme of The Power of Sound.
AES executive director Bob Moses welcomed attendees and praised volunteers and staff during the opening ceremonies. He introduced AES president David Scheirman, who highlighted the attraction of the Milan region as a historically significant centre of technological innovation, led by visionaries including Leonardo Da Vinci and Marconi - such innovation continuing today with a concentration of professional audio manufacturers.
Scheirman said AES Conventions fulfil the AES’ mission of promoting advancements in the science and practice of professional audio, “bringing leading people and ideas together."

USA - Montreal-based Zero-Ohm will show MS-4R5, a two-input, two-output rack mounted system at InfoComm 2018. Meanwhile, the new MS-2R (2000W version) will debut at the Las Vegas-based event. The company’s Multispeaker system won a Best New Product Technology award at the Innovations Showcase at InfoComm 2017.

UK - Audio technology from TOA Corporation UK has recently been specified throughout the Brompton Oratory in London.
Consecrated in 1884, the oratory has utilised audio equipment for many years, but required the latest technology to replace the aging system. Worthing based System Design Audio was called in to specify, configure and install a new solution.

Europe - AVIXA, the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association, has announced the appointment of Chris Lavelle to the position of senior director of development Europe. Lavelle takes on the role having spent nine years as regional director for UK and Ireland. He will lead the team based in Munich and the UK.

Having seen attendance dwindle at the long-established entertainment technology exhibition, this year’s Music Inside Rimini saw a cooperative effort from rental companies and equipment distributors to revitalise the event and bring back the crowds. The Liverpool based production specialist was asked to provide full production - lighting, audio and video.
Adlib this year provided the key disciplines of lighting and sound plus the IMAG video package.
The format was as before, a tight house band supporting a selection of cast from the series including Jonathan Jackson, Chris Carmack, Clare Bowen, Charles Esten and Sam Palladio.

Greece - Saint Panteleimon Monastery is a Russian Orthodox monastery built on the southwest side of the peninsula of Mount Athos in Macedonia, northern Greece. Hhome to around 70 resident monks and many pilgrims every year, a Yamaha audio system has recently been installed to help scripture reading be clearly heard.
The monastery was founded in the 11th Century, with much of the present complex built on a nearby site, closer to the sea, between 1812 and 1821. Today, it is the largest monastery on the Mount Athos peninsula, its multi-storied buildings and tall cupolas giving the impression of a city in miniature. Its Cenobitic tradition follows the monastic practise of regulated community life. A key part of this is mealtimes where, after prayers in church, monks and pilgrims gather in the refectory to eat, while being read scripture from the Bible.
