This event, held in the Doubletree Hilton from 22-24 May, included three days of presentations and 23 seminar sessions with the highlight being the Xerox International Operations Premiere of the new Xerox IridesseTM Production Press.
Xerox hosted 400 of their top graphic communications customers, resellers and business partners from around the world.

The Band's Visit was the big winner of the night at the Radio City Music Hall, with a total of 10 wins out of 11 nominations, including Best Musical, Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, and Best Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical.

UK - Newmarket Racecourse in Suffolk has undergone a major upgrade to its PA, with new systems designed and installed by integrator AudioTek.
Known as the home of horse racing, and with a history spanning three and a half centuries from the time of King Charles II, the prominence of the racecourse is sustained by its unrivalled programme of races and events and its continual modernisation that ensures high standards for visitors.
AudioTek was chosen to do a full survey of the current site and to recommend a new solution to the problems and complaints that the venue had been having. From this it soon became obvious that certain areas on site were having issues, with a combination of aged components failing and the need for an upgrade to a more modern sound from the original speech PA with its limited frequency bandwidth.

Firmly established in the London nightlife scene, Egg LDN is now in its 15th year and has secured its place as a successful corporate venue, having hosted different private functions from intimate product launches, networking events and board meetings to themed parties for a range of notable clients.

Promoted by AEG, rental company Capital Sound were brought in by production company LarMac LIVE, with whom they have worked at this challenging venue on many previous occasions, to provide sound reinforcement for the event.

RCF partner Yes Production rigged a number of the Italian company’s popular products, ranging from line arrays and subs, point source solutions, portable speakers and mixing desks.
Dean Davoile, RCF UK sales manager, comments: “We had a very successful two days. The venue was perfect and the ability to demonstrate a couple of flown large line arrays as well as multiple smaller point source system worked really well.”
With the line arrays in mind, Davoile was aware that this was the first opportunity for those in the southern half of the country to hear the new HDL6-A and HDL30-A D-Line series speakers in a real-world situation. Every part of the signal path has to be pristine,” says Kevin Sones of Earsightmusic, who relies on his iD22 from Audient. “This is why I trust iD22 to be at the centre of my system.”

Russia - An Outline sound system has been installed at the Ekaterinburg Stadium ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The 64 matches that comprise the tournament are to be hosted across a dozen stadia up to 1,800 miles apart. One of these is the Ekaterinburg Stadium, originally opened in 1957 then subject to a major redevelopment completed in 2011. To meet FIFA specifications, it will feature temporary space for fans, with extra covered seating on the outside of the stadium perimeter behind both goals, taking its capacity up to just over 35,000.
In preparation for the four World Cup matches scheduled to be played there, an Outline sound system has been installed based around their new Stadia series of products designed specifically for this application.

UK - The winners of the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) Theatre Awards 2018 have been announced.
The awards ceremony took place on 6 June (Wednesday) at Alexandra Palace, London.
The five awards for sound, lighting, engineering, widget and stand were complemented by a special award to mark the retirement of Roger Fox, the theatre show's director, acknowledging his 40 years work on building and developing the event since 1978.

South Africa - Three all-female teams of young lighting designers scooped the top accolades at this year’s St Mary’s Battle of the Bands. The annual competition was hosted on 17 May at The Edge Theatre at Saint Mary’s, Johannesburg and featured two celebrity judges attending the finale - Prime Circle’s Marco Gomes and The Parlotone’s Neil Pauw.
In the lighting design category, first place went to Saint Mary’s Zaneli Steeneveldt, who was assisted by Ghita Economakis and Sanam Soni. In second place, St Mary’s Erin Kersten was assisted by Ella Roseveare, Amy Leishman, Jordan Dart and Caitlin Bloom. Third place was awarded to Parktown Girls, a joint effort by Leia Singh, Lailah Naidoo and Roxana van Weely.

Argentina - In 2017, American punk rockers Green Day undertook a year-long world tour taking in Australia, Europe, Canada, USA and South America. In November when the band arrived at the Estadio Velez Stadium in Argentina, audience, crew and band were in for a real treat and an audio first.
Here, the PA was the d&b SL-Series, GSL System, the new member of the d&b large format PA family making its South American debut. BALS Buenos Aires Live Shows, one of Argentina’s largest rental firms, was the local provider for sound and lighting. Their GSL system arrived just the week before the Green Day Show – and the results were “exceptional”.
The Estadio Velez in Buenos Aires is a 45,000-capacity sports stadium, now firmly established as a leading venue for global events and tours. The BALS sound crew were more than keen to work with the new system.

UK - The Trent Vineyard church located just two miles from Nottingham has one of the largest auditoriums in the region.
With a capacity to welcome over 1,200 people for Sunday services, talks, and music events means, the venue can also be utilised as a conference centre.
In 2017 the venue was expanded and refurbished, the church turned to leading AV supplier SFL to design and install a system capable of meeting their various needs, along with those of a fast-turnaround corporate conferencing clientele.

USA - Yamaha has launched the VXL1-16P, a Dante-enabled, Power over Ethernet (PoE) loudspeaker, designed for the corporate installation market.
The PoE functionality allows power to be supplied over a Cat 5e (or higher) Ethernet cable, meaning only one cable is needed for power, control and audio distribution.
Launched at InfoComm2018, the VXL1-16P is a slim (5.4cm/2.1inch wide) line array loudspeaker, optimised to deliver high quality audio into rooms that demand vocal clarity from a stylish design, but where space is limited.
