USA - Georgia Tech fields a mean team of Yellow Jackets baseball players that has posted numerous NCAA Division I conference championships. The team practices and plays all of its home games at Russ Chandler Stadium, a 4,000-plus seat stadium originally built in 1930 and massively renovated in 2002. Like everything on the Georgia Tech campus, Russ Chandler Stadium is nestled deep inside Atlanta’s Midtown area.
Gainesville-based AV company dB Integrations recently gave Georgia Tech two Danley-based sound systems for Russ Chandler Stadium: one for game day that includes a beefy Danley SH96HO loudspeaker and an even beefier Danley BC415 subwoofer and one for practices that uses a more modest Danley OS80 weatherised loudspeaker.
“The Yellow Jackets had a dated sound reinforcement system mounted on a 25ft tower behind centre field,” explains Ronnie Stanford, director

Denmark - In early 2019, the Odense Theatre, in collaboration with The Funen Opera and Odense Symphony Orchestra, staged the country’s largest ever musical production. Featuring a 70-member orchestra and a star-studded cast, the investment by production company AV Center in a Yamaha Rivage PM10 digital mixing system was one of the key factors that made the show possible.
Performed during January and February at Odeon in Odense - a modern venue with a main hall that seats audiences of over 1700 - Leonora Christina is a musical extravaganza telling the 17th century story of one of Denmark’s greatest political intrigues. Directed by Peter Langdal, it includes “all the plot elements of love, power and treason essential for a great musical production”.
The performances featured high profile Danish actors Xenia Lach-Nielsen and Troels Lyby in the lead roles of

UK - Adlib supplied a Coda sound system, video equipment and crew to the recent UK leg of punk folk singer-songwriter Frank Turner’s on-going world tour. Adlib worked closely with production designer Ali Pike, FOH engineer Luke Buckbee and Johnny Stephenson on monitors.
Taking on the full production designer role was an exciting prospect for Ali Pike who initially chatted with Frank about what he wanted video-wise, and had a very clear overall perspective of what she wanted to create. The focus was to bring something fresh and different to the visual mix.
Assisting Ali to get all the kit and the effects she wanted on the road was Adlib’s Matt Hopwood.
The white backdrop for the lighting and video projections was 18 ft high, and Panasonic RZ21K laser projectors were selected for their power and relatively compact size. These were fitted with short throw lense

Albania - Martin Audio is making inroads in the Albanian capital of Tirana, thanks to its distributor Prosound and the BlacklineX series loudspeakers. The most recent installation of this system has been at the L’Uva Bistro Lounge, situated in the heart of Tirana’s nightlife area.
Based in the same city, Prosound were brought in by the venue owner, who was looking to undertake a total renovation. The venue itself is a one-room, 250-capacity establishment, with a veranda by the entrance, which trades through the day and late into the night. Background music during the day makes way for a DJ and occasionally live bands during the weekends.
With this in mind, L’Uva required a sound system with the capability of handling electronic DJ music and live bands, with high SPL levels during the busy weekend nights. At the same time it had to be sufficiently compact to be di

Poland - Poznań-based Gigant Sound Letus has made a further investment in Outline loudspeakers, adding 36 of the company’s new Superfly design plus 16 DBS 18-2 sub-bass enclosures to its rental inventory. The Polish company was founded in 1993 by owner Jurek Taborowski, and services a variety of domestic clients in numerous fields in addition to other projects in Eastern Europe and even as far afield as the US. Now employing over 30 people, the company also works extensively in television.
Taborowski comments: “Considering the extremely small dimensions (height 24cm), the weight - only 38kg - and the number of components used (2 x 10", 2 x 8", 1 x 3") Superfly is an absolute leader in the audio market in its construction concept and ease of configura

UK - The Linbury Theatre has recently reopened following a three-year renovation project which saw the original studio theatre thoroughly refurbished (see LSi March). A key part of the renovation was the installation of a new sound system from EM Acoustics, supplied and installed by Stage Electrics.
The decision to use EM Acoustics for the full PA system turned out to be quite straightforward as both Tom Thompson, technical manager of the Linbury Theatre, and Martin Adams, the technical manager in charge of the redevelopment project, both have a long-standing relationship with EM and already knew the HALO-C compact line array system well. It was also important to them that EM Acoustics is a British brand. “A f

UK - DiGiCo consoles were specified throughout the entire 2019 BRIT Awards. Staged at the O2 Arena, the production acknowledges the best in musical talent and this year counted The Carters, Drake and Ed Sheeran amongst its winners.
The evening’s live mixes, which were also broadcast live on TV, saw Hugh Jackman, George Ezra, Jess Glynne and The 1975 amongst other top artists perform with the sound of DiGiCo.
“The BRIT Awards is always a tricky show; being able to balance artists’ needs with simplicity and continuity throughout is hard to achieve,” states Colin Pink, The BRITs longstanding live sound supervisor. “This year, every sound desk was a DiGiCo, which allowed the production to feel much more elegant than in the past.”
The consoles, deployed by Britannia Row Productions - which has been The BRITs’ audio supplier for over 20 years - were two

Europe - A new DAS Audio app, which creates and manages groups of VANTEC and ALTEA 700 systems, was launched at ISE 2019. The new DASlink GM application is designed to monitor and control these systems both in groups and individually. The app, compatible with Android and Apple iOS, eases the configuration of cabinet parameters from a mobile device, says the company.
The main functionality of DASlink GM is to create groups of systems with different configurations where not only can the group parameters be modified individually but also the control of the gain of the cabinets within a group.
By simply tapping on the screen, DASlink GM accesses the parameters of the systems grouped by ‘zones’, so the user can adjust them quickly and effortlessly while checking and monitoring the signal that reaches the systems in real time. As a result, the user can prevent clipping i

USA - Bose Professional is now shipping the two latest models in its PowerShare adaptable power amplifiers - the PS604D (600W divisible into four channels) and PS404D (400W divisible into four channels) featuring Dante networking capability.
Both new amplifiers support four audio input channels from a Dante network, have the ability to mix onboard analogue inputs with digital Dante inputs, and give installers the freedom to place the amplifier away from the source location.
With the initial introduction of PowerShare adaptable power amplifiers in 2016, Bose Professional armed installers with a powerful new advantage - the freedom to put amplifier power where it’s needed and waste less of an amplifier’s drive potential where it’s not.
“The notion of a multi-channel amplifier that breaks free from the fixed-power-per-channel architecture has been well recei

The Netherlands - Podium Victorie in Alkmaar has been a well-known venue for many years, hosting a wide range of classic and contemporary bands from all over the world.
Though very successful at its original location, Victorie recently moved, its operators opting for an exciting relocation into the city of Alkmaar. With an upgrade in venue, owners of the club decided this was a logical opportunity to upgrade their entire sound system. After reviewing numerous competitive demos, it was the Clair Brothers system demonstrated by The Audio Specialists that rose to the top.
The key in the new venue was to find the right balance to deliver a level of acoustic quality concertgoers and performers alike would appreciate as something truly special. The Clair Brothers demo made the decision easy because of the way it achieved acoustic balance in the new room from the start.

South Korea - When old and outdated amplifiers began to cause frequent errors at South Korea’s Yeouido Full Gospel Church, an upgrade was imperative. Audio specialists and Powersoft distributors, Dasan SR, presented the winning specification, proposing Powersoft’s X Series amplifier platforms to manage the high channel count and the complexity of the church’s sound system. The church claims the country’s largest Pentecostal Christian congregation of over 800,000 members.
Dasan SR’s technical manager, Changyu Choi, specified seven of Powersoft’s eight-channel X Series tour-grade amplification systems to drive the powerful PA comprised of EAW KF750 full system three-way cabinets and associated KF755 down fill array modules. The extensive PA is comprised of main front of house speakers including downfill, front fill and under balcony speakers, as well as the delay s

Germany - d&b audiotechnik heads full steam to this year’s Prolight +Sound in Frankfurt featuring both their SL Series - GSL and KSL Systems - and the d&b Soundscape. d&b is also bringing with them “new products and enabling technologies, proving it’s not just the big things that matter”.
