Germany - Duran Audio has recently released the latest version of its Digital Directivity Analysis software (DDA). DDA was first developed as a tool to allow sound designers to implement Duran Audio's powerful Digital Directivity Synthesis algorithm.

But what is DDS? Back in 2000 Dr Evert Start from Duran Audio published a paper on Digital Directivity Synthesis at the IOA's Reproduced Sound Conference in the UK. DDS is a technology that uses FIR filters to allow sound designers to control both the near field and far field dispersion of a loudspeaker array using a powerful algorithm from Duran Audio called Digital Directivity Synthesis. DDS was immediately implemented in AXYS Target Line Arrays and Intellivox arrays. DDS allowed users to electronically aim the sound where they want it - at the listener and to excite the audience and not the room. 13 years on Duran Audio continue

Germany - Fohhn Audio launches two new 12" high-powered subwoofer models at this year's Prolight+Sound in Frankfurt. The XS-22 active sub is a new addition to the German manufacturer's X-Series compact subwoofers, whose low weight and state-of-the-art digital technology make them ideal for a range of mobile applications.

The subwoofer features a 12" long excursion speaker, integral 1500W Class D digital amplifier and Fohhn Audio DSPs. Weighing just 26kg, the XS-22 can deliver a max SPL of 127dB and is remarkable for its wide dynamic range and incredible low frequency response. Integral DSP technology enables the subwoofer to be networked and remotely controlled. It can also be used to power any Fohhn mid-high passive loudspeaker systems.

The new PS-22 active/passive subwoofers augment Fohhn's Perform series. Designed for a wide range of uses, they are particularly su

UK - The Public and Commercial Services Union has around 270,000 members and is the largest Civil Service trade union in the UK. Situated in an old building near Clapham Junction station, the headquarters of the PCS was in need of a number of interior refurbishments, including the installation of a modern conferencing system to service the needs of its National Executive Committee. The project saw the first UK installation of beyerdynamic's Quinta wireless conference system.

RG Jones Sound Engineering were commissioned alongside POLARaudio to supply a modern conferencing system to replace the out-dated analogue system that was in situ. The client required the capacity to cater for up to 49 microphone units.

The upgrade came in the form of a wireless solution, employing beyerdynamic's Quinta system. Quinta met all the requirements for safety, reliability and transmission securi

Country Music Awards - Miranda Lambert was the big winner at this year's Academy of Country Music awards, taking home three honours including female vocalist of the year. She also won song of the year for Over You, written with her husband Blake Shelton, who also hosted the show. Lambert said, "Thank you for accepting me as a songwriter and not just as a singer, that means the world to me." Shelton's co-host Luke Bryan was the surprise winner of the prestigious entertainer of the year award.

Taylor Swift was up for five awards but went home empty-handed. She performed with Keith Urban and Tim McGraw. Newcomer Hunter Hayes was nominated in six categories but also failed to win. He did get to perform with Motown legend Stevie Wonder on his new single I Want Crazy and a cover of Wonder's song Sir Duke.

Germany - Duran Audio shall be launching the new version of its iOS Control App, Version 2.0, at Prolight and Sound 2013 this week.

The Control App has been designed primarily for users of Duran Audio's Sound Reinforcement range of loudspeakers: AXYS Flex, Scope, Source, Target and Beam Shaping Subwoofers. The app connects to the loudspeakers using a wi-fi to RS485 convertors and the new version supports multiple controllers.

In a live environment the Control App offers engineers and sound designers an easy to use and intuitive interface to access the wide variety of features available thanks to the loudspeakers on board DSP. Users can gain full access to the on board 8 band parametric EQ, Delay and Volume settings. In addition to this they can also switch between crossover settings and recall one of the eight on board pre-sets.

UK - Platinum-selling British artist, Paloma Faith, is currently in the midst of an extensive UK tour, which will run until the summer; recently, she brought her unique style and sound to the capital for a headline show at Hammersmith Apollo. Her monitor engineer, Saul Skoutarides, had an abundance of Sennheiser kit in tow...

Skoutarides, who also works monitors for Kings of Leon, has been a Sennheiser user for some time; be it the 2000 Series, the G2s or the G3s, he insists he has always achieved the best possible results when using Sennheiser systems.

"For me, Sennheiser is just worlds ahead of its competitors; you not only get sound quality, you get true value for money and absolute reliability," he says. "I used to use the G2s, which were great, but these G3s that I am using on the Paloma tour are even better: the stereo imaging; the RF; the gain structure;

Germany - Fohhn Audio previews its latest technological development in digital compact, active, networkable audio systems at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt this week. Fohhn Intelligent Audio Distribution (FIAD) has been specially developed as a result of demands for increasingly compact, lightweight yet powerful active loudspeaker systems. As technology constantly evolves, products are becoming both smaller and more powerful. Flexibility is also key, as is the need for optimal use of resources.

With this in mind, the challenge facing Fohhn engineers has been how to successfully integrate two speakers, an amplifier, power supply, DSP processors and three connectors for power, audio and networking into increasingly compact loudspeaker housing, without compromising on performance or quality.

The additional expense and aesthetic problems resulting from having to fit three different

UK - Kerrang! has announced that the Relentless Kerrang! Awards 2013 is moving to the new location of Troxy in East London, taking place on 13 June. The awards is celebrating its 20th anniversary and voting has gone live today via www.kerrang.com and in Kerrang! Magazine. The Relentless Kerrang! Awards will be hosted by Mark Hoppus (ex Blink 182) and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.

"It's been a thrilling year for the music Kerrang! loves," says editor James McMahon. "Whether on a global scale, or at a grass roots level, rock has thrived in the twelve months that have passed since the last time we all got together in a room and acted like lawless barbarians. It's for this reason that our awards exist. To bestow praise and reward on music which matters, which so rarely gets acclaim from outside its own

Germany - Genelec is debuting its new M Series Bi-amplified Active Monitors at Pro Light + Sound 2013 in Frankfurt (booth 8 H25).
