USA - President Barack Obama's alma mater, Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii, recently installed a new Electro-Voice XLE super-compact line array sound system in the school's theatre with the help from Audissey, a Honolulu-based AV and control technologies provider. The new system fulfils the long-held dream of Punahou's technical director, Brian Gilhooly, to equip the theatre with a left-right system design to replace the building's centre cluster, which Audissey installed at Punahou nearly 15 years earlier.

John Gardner of Audissey comments: "Audissey has been involved with the campus for many, many years, and we came to the school about 15 years ago when the administration was remodelling the theatre, and we designed a decent centre cluster to act as the main PA for the space. But it became clear to the school and to us that the system needed an upgrade to meet the scho

India - The Filmfare Awards are the oldest and most prestigious Indian film industry event, and undoubtedly the Oscars of Bollywood. Leading Indian live sound production specialists, Sound.com, were asked for the second year running to provide a complete audio solution for the event, which this year included broadcast sound as well.

Sound.com chose to upgrade their entire sound system from last year. From a Lab.gruppen point of view, this meant that instead of last year's choice of FP+ Series, the entire system was run with the new flagship PLM 10000Q Powered Loudspeaker Management systems with onboard Lake processing.

Like last year, the show was hosted at Yash Raj Studios in the heart of Mumbai, which, according to Sound.com's Warren D'Souza, is not acoustically the best venue- it is designed as a film stage. Nevertheless, as the most coveted awards night in India, with a st

The new music and PA system serves the 103,000sq.ft of floor space at the store, every inch of which features exciting contemporary internal architecture and premium finishes. To compliment the design and do justice to the space, PEL chose a Bose Professional System featuring over 300 Bose Model 16 ceiling speakers to play music throughout the store and broadcast messages when required. As a multi zone system, different music and messages can be played in different areas, making it extremely versatile.

In addition to the sound system, PEL also supplied and installed a refuge

Additionally, Camco Q-Power Series prices have been reduced. "To be able to offer these trend-reversing prices, we've tweaked the minimum quantity orders," explains Camco's Mick Anderson, "but, in this unpredictable economic climate, we need to be mindful of the pressures on our customers as well as the needs of our own manufacturing business."

UK - The New Testament of God Church in Willesden commissioned SA Sound Services to handle the audio element of an extensive refurbishment, triggered by the installation of a new wraparound balcony seating around 200 people.

"With a full AV and sound upgrade to carry out, we took the opportunity to put in all the cables at the same time," recalls Steve Ashley, "all the video cables, and runs of analogue and digital cables for the PA system, all under the floor." Ashley's quote covered both an analogue and a digital control option, but once the building refurb was underway, "it became clear that they would need to buy a new digital mixer."

SA Sound was already running a RSS M-400 in its hire stock, supplied by Paul Nicholson at Midas Sound Services, so was able to recommend its capabilities with some enthusiasm. "The processing power in this s

UK - With two leading characters cast via a primetime reality television show, audience expectations of the new West End production of musical Oliver! were high. But with three Yamaha digital consoles and a DME64N digital mix engine at front of house, sound designer Paul Groothuis and his associate John Owens have made sure that nobody will be disappointed.

Groothuis has been specifying Yamaha digital consoles since he first used two linked Promix 01 mixers (then just-launched) on A Little Night Music at the National Theatre in 1995.

"One of the big advantages I have found with Yamaha's digital consoles is that they have always made the user interface very intuitive, which gives a great sense of security," he says. "Some digital desks also have a particular switch on routine which you have to follow. With Yamaha you just switch on and off you go, t

Minister of Music and Worship D. J. Bulls, a prominent arranger whose choral and worship arrangements are sung in churches across the country, directs the praise teams and the Celebration Choir, and also coordinates media for worship assemblies.

Germany - Defying the current economic mood, Alcons Audio can look back on its most successful PL&S show to date. The main eye catcher on the stand was the 'MSRA' design study: the Modular Stacked Ribbon Array, is an evolutionary concept consisting of a scalable high-power line-source monitor system, based on vertically stacked modules, applying the excellent (cylindrical) array ability of Alcons' proprietary pro-ribbon technology.

Highlighted product was the LR7 micro pro-ribbon line-array, latest and smallest member of Alcons' successful pro-ribbon line-arrays. The lightweight (8kg), the 16 ohms impedance and a choice of 90-degree or 120-degree horizontal projection, makes the LR7 suitable for AV projects, where very compact form factor with perfect line-array throw and imaging are required.

Over the past few years its project technical team, including IT director Iype Abraham and technical services manager, Scott Bradley, have been working with integrators, Visual Systems Sales Ltd (part of Myriad Audio Visual Group), to evolve the concept for their principle theatres, and this includes a pristine audio signal path, delivered by the BSS Soundweb London digital processing.

As a result, the master scheme created for the five-star May Fair Hotel, is now being rolled out, and this month Visual Systems project con

New Zealand - The Music & Audio Institute of New Zealand has just purchased a 32-channel Allen & Heath GL3800 multi-purpose live sound console for use on its live sound course.

The new mixer replaces an older GL model - a GL2000 - which has been in use for 13 years and is now installed in one of the smaller classrooms. The GL3800 will assume duties in the Institute's main teaching facility and out on the road for field activities.

"The GL2000 gave us many years of faithful service but we wanted to move up to a 32-channel format and to have the combined FOH and monitor mixing facilities that the GL3800 offers," explains Tony McMaster, head of department for live sound and event production at the Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand.

"As a teaching tool the GL3800 gives our students experience on an analogue desk that is easy to find your way around when sta

USA - The Maryland Theatre in Hagerstown, MD has installed an Allen & Heath iLive digital mixing system as part of an extensive upgrade of its audio equipment.

Hosting a wide variety of musical and theatrical events, the historic 1915 theatre is renowned for its excellent acoustics but has been in need of an audio makeover to bring the sound system up to date.

Brian Marquiss of BDI Sound, who advised the Theatre on its new purchase, commented, "I recommended an iLive system, comprising the iDR10 MixRack and a compact iLive-80 Control Surface for a number of reasons. It operates almost like an analogue board making the transition to digital very easy, and iLive is fully-featured and self-contained, so there's no need for outboard processing gear. The system also uses Cat 5 cable as a digital snake; for an historic building like this where running new conduit is not an opti
