UK - The highly-acclaimed and successful Soundcraft GB Series has gained a new member, the Soundcraft GB2.

Available in frame sizes from 16 to 32 channels, each with two full-function stereo channels, the GB2 is designed for smaller installations in churches and performance venues, or for small touring sound systems. Four group busses are configured as two stereo subgroups for easy control, along with six auxiliary sends.

UK - Yamaha Commercial Audio recently invited dealers, consultants and prospective clients to two days of presentations and listening sessions at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London's Swiss Cottage.

The aim of the open days was to provide more in-depth knowledge and experience of the recently-launched Installation Series speakers and power amplifiers and to allow guests to meet the newly expanded Commercial Audio team. The open days also supported ambitious plans for the install markets.

UK - Blitz Sound continues its successful association with Olivier award-winning sound designer Mike Walker by supplying the audio and communications equipment for the critically acclaimed theatre production of Mammals, produced by The Bush Theatre in Shepherd's Bush, and subsequently for an eight-week UK tour.

The equipment specified by Walker included an Akai S6000 sampler along with a Mackie HDR 24/96 digital recorder system for sound effects replay. Sound effects control was from the Akai S6000 front panel. Yamaha amplifiers powered a selection of JBL, Tannoy and Meyer loudspeakers, with audio control by a Soundcraft Spirit Digital 328 mixer.

The Netherlands - Denon DJ Holland have announced their 2005 Dealer Awards, selecting winners in three different categories through an extensive list of criteria.

Picking up the award for Best Denon DJ Webshop 2005 was www.RJShop.nl, while in the category Best Denon DJ Showroom 2005 Jacobs Breda Electronics was voted best of the three nominees. Finally, dealers who had commenced trading during 2005 were eligible for the Best New Denon DJ Dealer 2005 category - and the successful Denon reseller was again RJ Shop.

All the winners received a Denon DJ Bowl and an espresso machine for the Best New Denon DJ Dealer 2005 (the runners-up received a Denon DJ plaquette).

Canada - Multi-Grammy winner Kanye West was joined by Canadian rocker Sam Roberts at the red-carpet opening of Toronto's newly renovated Masonic Temple, the venue for MTV Canada's first live concert. The Masonic Temple located downtown Toronto, was built in 1918 and has undergone several renovations over the years. It has been a music hall, a TV Studio and most notably in recent years, The Rolling Stones used the venue as a rehearsal hall for their upcoming tours.

To restore The Masonic Temple to its former glory as a music hall, it underwent a $9-million renovation by the designers of Toronto's stylish Drake Hotel. France - DPA has launched the BLM4060 Boundary Layer Microphone, the stylish design and high performance of which makes it ideal for use in boardrooms, conference facilities, courtrooms, teleconferencing and other applications where excellent vocal pickup is required, says the company.

The BLM4060 is a transducer designed to work under optimum conditions when placed on a tabletop, but it also performs well on any other hard, flat surface that reflects sound. UK - With three theatres totalling over 2300 seats on the South Bank in London, the National Theatre presents an eclectic mix of new plays and classics, with seven or eight productions in repertory at any one time. The National has now upgraded its Sennheiser radio microphone system and increased its facility to forty channels. DeLoria brings over 26 years of experience in pro audio product design, business development, and marketing initiatives to Community's management team.

In addition to a lengthy career in manufacturing, he worked for seven years at McCune Sound Service as a sound system designer and engineer where he pioneered high-fidelity sound for SuperBowls XVII and XIX. Nigeria - Over a two-week period in April, nearly 20,000 athletes gathered at venues in and around the city of Abeokuta for Nigeria's 15th semi-annual National Sports Festival. UK - Launched at the Paris AES, Sennheiser's new A5000-CP passive helical antenna provides high gain, virtually no multipath problems, and high-quality RF performance over the entire UHF broadcast band. Designed for the most demanding projects and toughest transmission conditions, the circularly polarized A5000-CP can be used as both a transmit and receive device, making it ideal for radio microphones and in-ear monitoring, say Sennheiser.

Unlike conventional helical antennas, most of which have a much narrower bandwidth, the A5000-CP covers the entire UHF range from 450 to 960 MHz. Russia - A&T Trade, Marantz Professional's Russian distributors, report a huge order for 37 of the company's PMD570 solid state digital recorders. As with the rest of Europe Russia is finding the PMD570 an irresistible solution for high level data capture, with compact flash cards replacing the traditional cassette.

The first 19 recorders are all destined for installation in a new Arbitration Court currently being built in Moscow (one to record the proceedings in each of the 19 halls in which the sessions are held).

"The PMD570 will replace the Arbitration Court's DAT recorders which were traditionally used for the tasks like this," explains A&T Trade's Ksenia Valeeva. She added that this is just the first step of an ongoing project which will run through the summer, and is scheduled to complete in August.

Austria - Life Ball - 'A Choir of Love, Against an Army of Ignorance' - is the largest AIDS charity event in Europe. Life Ball 2006 relied on AKG microphones to support high profile celebrities and artists such as Sharon Stone, Catherine Deneuve, Anastacia and Kool & The Gang during the live event.

An annual event since 1993, Life Ball 2006 took place on 21 May at the Vienna City Hall, fully encompassing the hall square. Raising money to battle HIV/AIDS, the charity event aims to educate through an entertainment event featuring addresses by international film stars, live performances by music legends and a Diesel fashion show hosted by super model Naomi Campbell. An audience of more than 40,000 came to see the show and learn how they could help fight ignorance and prejudice.

StagePro owners Rene van der Linden and Ben Brouwers, together with system engineer Marido Vermonden, conducted extensive market research before pronouncing the DN1248 Pluses "the best sounding and most reliable splitters available".
