France/USA - Digigram presented the XIP882 as first product to embody its eXaudi technology, an IP audio streaming, processing, and routing system at the NAB trade show in Las Vegas. Creating a new product category, XIP882 combines in one single device the functions of four different traditional product categories: IP streaming client/servers, audio processors, routers, and codecs. eXaudi enables the integration of radio automation applications and audio transport over IP networks within a single scalable, manageable, and integrated system, which makes the entire broadcast chain easier to manage and significantly reduces engineering and operating costs. Digigram has described the underlying network-centric approach of radio infrastructure in its white paper Digitalization of radio broadcasting - the next step, which is available for download at

The S-Types have been installed in Hyatt Regency Hotels' Vergina Theatre, located next to the Regency Casino complex in Greece's second capital city, Thessaloniki. The state-of-the-art Vergina Theatre has a 550-seat auditorium, and regularly plays host to a wide variety of shows, spectaculars, contests, award ceremonies and live TV broadcasts. A key element of its design revolves around its adaptability - a philosophy underlined by its choice of the S-Type consoles, say Cadac.

Their choice was based on the ergonomic design of the DS-00 along with its affordability. "And because it's so easy to use, their sound engineer was able to "drive" the console in no time at all," adds Butterworth.

UK - Global club conglomerate Ministry of Sound has completed an overhaul of the audio systems in its flagship London venue with the introduction of Allen & Heath mixers. MoS, which has been using a Xone:464 for several years as the broadcast mixer for its radio station, selected the audiophile rotary Xone:V6 and MIDI-enabled Xone:92 to give DJ's a choice in the DJ booth, with an ML3000 VCA console to provide sound reinforcement for live acts.

Head of Production David Bradshaw commented: "The Xone:V6 sound is rounded and warm, never sharp and with plenty of headroom. We have had DJ's change mixer mid-set to the V6 purely because the sound is so much better than other mixers. Its best feature must be the high-pass filter on each channel. It takes a little while for DJs to understand what this does but once they do everyone agrees that this is far better than a simple 'bass'

UK - Pictured is an unusual installation by EQ Audio & Events of Dublin. The company was contracted to specify, design and build a promotions vehicle for Red Bull - based around a 1944 US Military Police Dodge Vehicle. The original vehicle was stripped out and the rear canopy roof was cut off (vehicle modification was by Par Fit Dublin) and replaced by a hinged steel canopy mounted on hydraulic rams. A 2.6kW Dometic TEC29 generator with separate fuel tank was mounted beneath the vehicle, allowing approximately four hours of independent operation from a full fill.

Sound engineer Kevin Madigan installed the audio and visual equipment. The system was specified to be used as a DJ setup - d&b audiotechnik speakers and amplification were chosen, using two of their Ci90s mounted left and right and a single E12 subwoofer power by D12 amplifiers. DJ equipment included an Allen & Heath Xo

UK - The return of David Morbey to D&M Professional Europe has led to a number of new appointments being confirmed, as general manager Mark Perrins reshuffles his 'cabinet'. Explaining the rationale, Mark states, "When the Denon and Marantz operations merged last year there wasn't a great deal of movement in personnel. But with the benefit of a year's trading behind us there is now the opportunity to restructure on a more defined European basis."

This has been influenced by the centralizing of all stock within Germany, the appointment of four country managers (each with their own reps), the newly-created position of a German-based European service co-ordinator and a product planner - all of which are central to the strategic development.

Crucial to the change in the UK is the appointment of David Morbey to the new position of product manager - where he takes on respo

UK - Harman Pro UK has supplied Sound Division with an integrated audio solution including JBL speakers, BSS routing and processing, dbx zoning and Crown amplification for the impressive new Albannach venue in Trafalgar Square. The contemporary Scottish restaurant, bar and cocktail lounge is divided into three distinct areas - the bright and open main lounge bar on the ground floor, featuring large windows, lots of natural light and the stunning urban views; the more intimate mezzanine restaurant area above the rear portion of main lounge bar; and a discreet cocktail bar area downstairs. All three areas have diverse ambiences and so all required a variety of acoustic treatments when it came to the sound design. The three zones also had to be able to function either independently or simultaneously, so the global audio design had to be highly versatile.

USA - Some have dubbed Miami-based Churchill's Pub the CBGB's of the American South. Locals have been calling it Miami's Best Rock Club every year since 1991, according to Miami's alternative weekly, New Times. But most people just call it "The Church" - an appropriate nickname given that it's a popular destination for music lovers looking to celebrate underground rock.

Churchill's austere exterior and interior presence reflect the spirit of underground rock and roll - where the music itself rules, and the glitz is left at the door. It's a place where silver HVAC ducting doubles as stage decor, and where the floor is more often bathed in Guinness than clean water. During the day, it successfully masquerades as a quirky British sports pub, serving up UK imports to fans watching world soccer and rugby.

So far it has been used for indoor applications only, but the onset of spring has heralded a move into the open air, debuting at one of the world's most prestigious outdoor spaces - Beijing's Tian An Men Square.

The 20th anniversary of the Beijing Marathon Relay saw more than 3,000 long-distance runners competing in six different groups - the largest number of athletes to ever participate in the event. A large concert was staged in Tian An Men Square to celebrate the anniversary of the marathon, featuring live

UK - One of the world's most famous cathedrals, St. Paul's in London, has recently completed a significant audio upgrade, which has included the replacing of all its existing amplification with QSC's ISA 300T amps. Noted architect Sir Christopher Wren designed the church on a six-acre site after the great fire of 1666 destroyed the original church.

The cathedral's long-time audio contractors, RG Jones Sound Engineering Ltd., proposed QSC amplification based on an extensive system survey by Arup Acoustics' consultant Sam Wise. Wise had recommended that the overall set up required increased headroom and greater sonic clarity to better reach the cathedral's congregations of up to 2,600 people. RG Jones, in turn, recommended the QSC solution, partly due to its familiarity with the products' reliability, but primarily because, "it has a true 100V line-isolated transformer output
