Ireland / UK - Duran Audio UK Ltd has supplied T.G Baker (Sound) Ltd with 12 AXYS Intellivox 808s and two AXYS Intellivox 2c-XLs that form part of the PA/VA system at Croke Park, Dublin - the home of the Gaelic Athletic Association or GAA. In 1993 a grand plan to completely reconstruct Croke Park was unveiled - the biggest single venture ever undertaken by an Irish sporting organization.

Now a world-class stadium, Croke Park is the largest stadium in Ireland and the fourth largest in Europe. The AXYS Intellivox products were specified by Symonds to fulfil the PA/VA needs of Phase four of the redevelopment. Work began at the Northern (hill 16) end of the ground in October 2003. USA - Yamaha Corporation of America has strengthened its offerings in total systems solutions with the introduction of the Installation Series, the first complete line of sound reinforcement speaker products from the Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems Division. With availability from June 2005, a total of 19 models with integrated enclosures, hardware, components and crossover networks have been engineered to meet the requirements of the medium-to-large scale touring and installation markets, say the company.

The Yamaha Installation Series is the result of a collaboration with Audio Composite Engineering (ACE) and its highly respected acoustic engineer Michael Adams, retained by Yamaha to realize the product concepts of Yamaha's legendary speaker engineer, Akira Nakamura. USA - The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra is no stranger to performing with sound reinforcement. They tour at least twice a year, winter and summer, as well as a touring Florida and the south-east every other February. The orchestra can perform in a range of venues as well as at outdoor events, and can also be seen on national television each 4 July in a broadcast from Boston's Hatch Concert Shell - an event attended by over 400,000 concertgoers.

Conducted by Keith Lockhart, the Boston Pops mounts a Holiday Tour during the first two weeks of December and last year their in-house team was supported by Scorpio Sound of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. For the second leg of the tour, performing shows from Norfolk in Virginia to Bridgeport, Connecticut they had the chance to use a DiGiCo D5 Live digital mixing console as their front of house desk.

UK - The first two Midas Siena consoles off the production line have headed north to brand new live music complex The Sage Gateshead. Opened in December 2004, the £70 million Norman Foster-designed home for music and musical discovery is a fitting first for the highly flexible console which is equally at home on monitors or at FOH.

The Sienas were specified by The Sage Gateshead's head of technical operations, Chris Durant, who was so confident in the new console that he placed the order before it went into production. Midas and Klark Teknik brand development manager Richard Ferriday, together with Sean Hames from Midas dealer LMC Audio which supplied the consoles, paid a visit to Durant last May armed with a confidentiality agreement and the first full-scale layout drawing of Siena. UK - The R & B group - a North of England conference provider - recently took delivery of eight new KV2 Audio EX 10's to enhance the audio side of its hire stock. Based in Newcastle, and looking after a multitude of clients including, The Sage Theatre, Inside Communications and RCN Congress, the company has been waiting for a flexible but highly portable solution such as Ex 10 for some time.

UK - The Fuel concept, created by Richie Warren, is part record company, part dance culture and very much a bass-heavy roadshow - utilizing an XTA-controlled Funktion One sound system built into a pair of American muscle cars. The Fuel Roadshow visits major auto and music events across the UK and Ireland, with their two Dodge Challenger sound-system cars - rigs that look, sound and feel incredible, according to Fuel. Norway - For Video 4, EVI Audio's new intercom distributor in Norway, the LLB trade show in Oslo (10-12 February 2005) was just the start they wanted. The company reports making numerous contacts and receiving highly enthusiastic feedback. Attracting the most interest on the stand was the BTR-700 wireless system from RTS/Telex. UK - The new Siena console has already lived up to the Midas legend by making an early appearance with Mr Robert Plant, who performed at the annual MAS Records evening at Kidderminster Town Hall.

Plant is a patron of MAS Records, which was set up to provide expertise and resources for the development of music, and has close ties with the community in the Kidderminster area, where Midas is based. Although Plant has attended the annual MAS event in the past, this was the first time he'd performed. This year's event was being filmed for a DVD, with proceeds being donated to the Artist Legacy Fund, an organization that provides talented musicians with support to promote and develop their work.

Greece - The first-ever installation of HK Audio's Cohedra Compact system was carried out at the end of 2004 at the Maya Club in Larisa, central Greece, by HK's Greek distributor Space Lights, in conjunction with their local dealer, Master Voice. The Maya Club, located in a converted warehouse, has seating room for around 1,000 people, which includes the balcony areas. The system is being used for live Greek performances and also for DJs playing pop and dance music.

Space Lights and Master Voice installed a system consisting of 12 CDR 108 mid/high units with eight CDR 210 subwoofers and four IL8.1 very compact vocal full-range cabinets for front-fill. Six CDR 108 cabinets were rigged at each side of the stage at a height of 6m, with the IL 8.1s positioned so they provide coverage for the front tables. Belgium - EML Productions has begun a two-year programme to replace all the processors in its inventory with IX 48 Intelli-X Speaker Management Systems from Apex. The upgrade represents a substantial investment in floating-point processing technology, with 28 Intelli-X units arriving in the first phase of the programme, rising to a total of 50 units.

In previous years, EML has been using BSS speaker management systems, but, according to Patrick Demoustier, the older generation of fixed-point processors is now struggling to deliver the processing power demanded by line arrays like the Adamson system used by EML. Spain - The first Spanish rental companies to invest in HK Audio's Cohedra Compact Coherent Dynamic Response Array system have joined forces to start a local Cohedra Compact network. Both Andalusia-based companies have purchased systems of 16 CDR 108 C mid/high cabinets with eight CDR 210 C subwoofers and two PR 8 amp racks - a so-called 2x8 system. Each rig can be split into two ground-stacked systems for smaller gigs by use of an additional Digital Field Controller with PB 2 patchbays in each rack.

USA / Africa - The Ernest Angley Minsitries based at Grace Cathedral in Akron/Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, is about to embark on another crusade to Africa and, for the first time, is relying exclusively on a DiGiCo D1 Live for all their audio mixing. The crusades will travel to Namibia and Lesotho, and services will be held during the first three weeks of April, four to five nights a week. Most of the venues will be outdoor soccer fields, which will accommodate crowds from 30,000 to well over 200,000. There will be two stages at each location, with the ministry's vocal trio performing to pre-recorded tracks on the main stage and local choirs and bands performing on a second stage at the side of the main stage.

UK - Turbosound's QLight loudspeaker systems are forming the key element in an intelligent zoning installation at Ba Orient, a unique style of cocktail and dim sum bar in the fashionable Mermaid Quay area of Cardiff, Wales. Designed and installed by Enhance Audio of Bristol, the bar's new sound system features a total of 23 Turbosound loudspeakers, distributed throughout the venue's public areas and private VIP suites.

UK - Aztec Events, a company providing events management and production for major-league corporate clients, has purchased four Soundcraft GB4 consoles. "We bought the mixers to use in conferencing environments, although we do events including product launches and fashion shows, as well as meetings of all sorts," explained Aztec warehouse manager Samer Sahmani. "One of the reasons we went for them is that our older desks are Spirit by Soundcraft, which we have had for some years.

USA - Veteran FOH engineer Steve Cochran has joined Meyer Sound in the role of touring and sales support. Cochran will join tour liaison Buford Jones in staffing the company's Nashville office, located in the famed Soundcheck rehearsal complex. Cochran's duties will focus on applications, such as assisting artists and engineers working with Meyer equipment in the Soundcheck facility, and participating in educational seminars and training in the Nashville area.

Before joining Meyer Sound, Cochran most recently spent a year mixing FOH for country star LeAnn Rimes, but his history also includes 12 years of FOH work with Ricky Van Shelton, monitor and FOH duties with Julio Iglesias, and a 15-year association with Wolf Sound of Miami, who first introduced him to Meyer Sound products. UK - Audio distributor Autograph Sales has supplied a unique line source loudspeaker system from LDS, for On The Town, the first ever musical staged by the English National Opera (ENO). This unique production is now playing at their restored home, the London Coliseum, until the end of May.

The LDS system was specified by sound designer Nick Lidster, who faced several challenges when designing this premier production. The loudspeaker installation had to be discreet, especially as it stays rigged during other opera performances in the ENO spring season, while also being aesthetically pleasing against the backdrop of the Grade II listed auditorium. Finally, fitting sound reinforcement into a venue designed for acoustic performances was never going to be a straightforward task.
