UK - Legendary disco act, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, performed an acclaimed set on Glastonbury’s Pyramid stage using Allen & Heath dLive S Class mixing systems.
Supported by F1 Sound, John Ryan, tech production manager and FOH engineer, used a S7000 Surface linked by FibreACE to an onstage DM48 MixRack, whilst monitor engineer, Marco Dellatorre, used a S7000 and DM48 with MADI for recording.
Ryan, who has been mixing for Nile Rodgers and CHIC for the past 13 years, says: “From the first moment I turned it on, I immediately became friends with dLive. Qatar - The Mall of Qatar is a shopping centre that opened in December 2016 in Doha, Qatar. The mall, which is the equivalent size of 50 football pitches with over 500 stores, is the nation’s largest mall. It also features mall-wide live entertainment with a professional live theatre and 360 degree acts and shows performed on a multi-lift rotating stage.
For the stage’s lighting control, one grandMA2 light, one grandMA2 replay unit, one MA onPC command wing, one MA VPU plus MK2 (Video Processing Unit), four MA Network Switches, two MA NPUs (Network Processing Units), 12 x MA 2Port Nodes and two MA 4Port Nodes are used. The technical design was completed by LichtUnit GmbH with Stephan Floeren as lighting designer, assistant LD Udo Rath and operator Desimir Skoracz.

Belgium - Big changes at the Couleur Café, Belgium’s largest urban contemporary music festival – after more than 20 years in its Tour & Taxis location, the super-multicultural event has moved to a new venue in the beautiful park below the iconic Atomium in Brussels.

UK - The annual London Club and Bar Awards has been celebrating the city’s thriving hospitality industry since 1994. This year’s event, which was held at The Intercontinental Park Lane, served up more sizzling glitz than ever, thanks to a stunning lighting design by Halo, which featured eight Maverick MK2 Spots, eight Maverick MK2 Washes, four STRIKE 4s and 12 Rogue R1 FX-Bs from Chauvet Professional.
At the heart of the design was the main stage that was used for the awards ceremony. Yann Guenancia, Halo project manager, drew on the intense output, rapid movements and colours of the Maverick lights to create a compelling sense of on-stage excitement.

UK - The recent edition of Polish Idol featured a distinctive filmic styling emanating from the visual influence of LD Artur Szyman, one of the country’s leading lighting and scenic designers, who was assisted by 96 x Robe Spikies and 80 x LEDWash 800s among other lights on his plot.
Artur has been an LD for 17 years and was a renowned film and TV DoP for 10 years before that. He’s known for taking creative risks and delivering new and invigorating designs, and for this show - returning to Polish national TV prime time after a 13-year break - his mission was to ensure that the lighting and scenography worked consistently from all camera perspectives.
This approach informed every aspect of the lighting, video and scenic design, bringing a cool cinematographic ambience to the studio.

Germany - Ayrton MagicPanel-FX, AlienPix-RS and MagicBlade-R fixtures starred alongside the catwalk models during the grand finale of Germany’s Next Top Model on 25 May 2017. The spectacular, full-scale production – now an eagerly-awaited climax to the annual competition – was broadcast live from the König Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen by Germany’s ProSieben channel, and presented by the show’s regulars, supermodel Heidi Klum, and judges Michael Michalsky and Thomas Hayo.
Expectations for the finale remain high and this year’s show did not disappoint. Australia - Audio-visual production company, IKONIX, recently used one of their Avolites Ai RX8 Media servers to video map a Cinco de Mayo event (Day of the Dead) at Melbourne's top trending event space, Peninsula.
The Mexican-themed event marked the end of the five-day 37th Australian Dental Association (ADA) Congress 2017 with 700 guests in attendance.
"For the Cinco de Mayo event, we worked with our client to choose a selection of 3D models that we could projection map on to," says Richard Saunders, co-director of IKONIX along with partner Zachary Burton. "We had a small 3D model printed for demos and testing before moving forward with larger custom-built models made from foam and plaster."

UK - Adlib was chosen by the production team from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, to supply lighting, audio and crew to the recent UK arena tour by the stars of the CMT hit musical drama TV show, Nashville.
Tony Stephens was the popular tour manager who headed the ship with tour director Betsega Bekele.
This, the first arena size tour here for the phenomenon, featured a talented house band backing a selection of stars from the show like Charles Esten, Clare Bowen, Chris Carmack and Jonathan Jackson, who played a lively jukebox mix of favourite songs from the latest series, together with their own original material and some unexpected covers.

USA - Slightly Stoopid may have two decades of touring under their belts, but the genre-busting band still keeps shows fresh and energetic for audiences around the country, pulling from their 12 albums including their recent release Meanwhile… Back at the Lab.
Bandit Lites is providing a lighting package for their current tour. Lighting designer Scott O’Connor created a stellar design for the funk, reggae and punk rock band by capitalizing on equipment that would fill the stage with dynamic, audacious looks, while still allowing for versatility across the various venues and emphasizing a ‘less is more’ mindset.

France - The recently opened La Seine Musicale music complex just outside Paris' centre is a marvel of performance spaces. Amadeus was chosen to equip the two main concert halls of the Seine Musicale building complex with their specially developed speaker systems.
As the sole speaker manufacturer chosen for the momentous project, Amadeus also installed their speakers in multiple rehearsal spaces throughout the new music centre. La Seine Musicale is a large-scale cultural public infrastructure, over 36,000 square meters, committed to host every type of musical performance.
The building houses two main concert halls, five recording studios, and several rehearsal spaces - the main 'Auditorium' has seating for 1,150 guests. Filmed in front of a live studio audience at ITV London Studios the new Blind Date stays faithful to the winning formula of the original. Hosted by Paul O’Grady and featuring the sliding panel and three question format, the show pits three hopefuls against each other, fighting to win the attention of a mystery date.
Created by scenic designer, Chris Webster and lit with LD Oli Richards, the suitably fabulous set balances a blend of cool neonesque LED against a warm tungsten glow provided by an array of cleverly housed LED practical fixtures that form the backdrop. Namibia - Walvis Bay, an extraordinary city on Namibia’s coast, with the contrast of sand dunes on one side and the ocean on the other, was the location for the 2017 Namibia Annual Music Awards which was both a livestream and live broadcast on the NBC platform.
Micky Lehr from EventPlus has headed the technical production for the NAMAs since 2015 and had a clear vision of what he wanted the show to look like in 2017. A substantial amount of Robe gear, with 12 Robe Squares being a predominant feature, ran off a grandMA2 control system.

Germany - Following a recent technical upgrade, which saw convention and concert venue Eurogress Aachen install two Yamaha CL5 digital mixing consoles, the new desks proved so successful that five more Yamaha digital mixers have now been installed.
Eurogress Aachen is a major venue for business and entertainment in the German city, with three main halls and an array of breakout and meeting rooms. For the previous upgrade a Dante network was installed throughout the complex, with a Yamaha CL5 console and Rio3224-D i/o unit in the 1700-capacity Europa and 430-capacity Brüssel halls.
Installed by Köln-based TEQSAS GmbH, the company has since been asked to add two Yamaha QL1 digital consoles, each with a Rio1608-D i/o unit, and three TF1s.

Latvia - Dinamo Riga, the Latvian professional hockey team, teamed with Stage Crew, Latvian technical production service, to mark Dinamo’s final home game of the KHL 2016/17 season. And central to the stunning pre-game visuals was a Hippotizer Karst Media Server, running Hippotizer V4.
The impressive Arena Riga has been home to the Kontinental Hockey League club Dinamo Riga since 2008, offering a 10,300 capacity when the ice is laid out. Aruba - Too often, events that receive a lot of accolades don’t seem to live up to their press clippings. This was most definitely not the case at the 2017 Soul Beach Music Festival in Aruba’s capital, Oranjestad.
The five-day event exceeded even the highest expectations this year, serving up a plethora of charismatic performances from superstars like Usher, The Roots and Mary J. Blige in a paradisiacal setting. Belgium - Painting with Light renewed its long-term working collaboration with the Summer Opera at Alden Biesen, a 16th century castle in the village of Rijkhoven, Limburg, eastern Belgium, just a 20-minute drive from the creative design practice’s own HQ in Genk.
Paco Mispelters from Painting with Light was tasked with lighting this year’s production of Gaetano Donizetti’s well known comic opera Don Pasquale, celebrating 20 years since the start of the successful annual opera event.
In keeping with the light-hearted and animated rhythm of the piece, Paco wanted to keep the lighting upbeat and vibrant in style and feel.

Mexico - Corona Sunsets returned to Tulum, Mexico on 17 June for a daylong programme of electronic dance music in idyllic surroundings. The festival saw the country’s first outing for Vero – Funktion-One’s vertically arrayable loudspeaker system.
Sound for the event was supplied and managed by Loto Audio – Funktion-One’s distributor for Mexico. Funktion-One founder, John Newsham, flew out to help with set-up for Corona Sunsets and to provide Vero training for the Loto Audio team.
Loto Audio has placed an order for its own Vero system, which will be delivered in July. For Corona Sunsets, the Vero system was shipped from the US.
The event organiser was keen to keep the visual impact of the system to a minimum, which led to a stipulation that it should be stacked rather than flown, which offered the sound crew a challenge.

Germany - Back in the summer of 2013, system integrators, fulfil engineering, replaced the main PA along the four stands at Signal Iduna Park, home to Bundesliga club, Borussia Dortmund. At the time, they left the existing EAW sound system providing coverage in the four corners for future upgrade. This has now been implemented, and at the same time, the previous two-channel amplifiers have been retired in favour of Powersoft’s 8-channel process-controlled solution.

UK - Star Events provided a performance wall for a 12-piece synthesiser ensemble and a standard 1.2m high forestage as New Order rolled back the years and rolled out the production to open Manchester International Festival (MIF).
Playing at Old Granada Studios, home to Joy Division’s first televised performance, on Tony Wilson’s So It Goes programme, and a nascent New Order three years later, Star Events helped develop the supporting structure for artist Liam Gillick’s responsive stage designs.
Star Events’ pods, stacked six on six, sat behind custom mechanical louvres, which served as a screen for visuals, flickering open to reveal 12 dancing synth players.
Largely dispensing with the hits, New Order chose to reinvent or embellish a ‘setlist of surprises’, from Joy Division’s Disorder to Plastic off 2015 LP Music Complete.

Slovenia - Teamwork is a great thing, and this was clearly evident for Slovenia’s 2017 PopRock Festival, a high profile national TV live event broadcast from Ljubljana, where lighting designer Crt Birsa and set designer Greta Godnic worked their creative magic in a special collaboration - with the help of 200 plus Robe lighting fixtures!
The PopRock Festival, now in its second year, was staged at the Gospodarsko Razstavisce exhibition centre for the first time, bringing an interesting mix of pop and rock artists and bands who had battled it out to reach the final twelve.
The aesthetic requirement was for a high-energy environment with enough latitude for all to look different and cool - both on camera and onstage - where they were appreciated by 700 excited music fans packed into the venue to catch the action as it unfolded.

The Netherlands - Built in the 1920s, the domed and eye-catching Majella church in East Amsterdam is a large, imposing building. Its design was inspired by the Byzantine churches in Palestine visited by its architect, Jan Stuyt. From the very beginning of the church's life, its sheer size presented the parish with expensive maintenance issues.
Having first found a use hosting the Institute for Women's History, in 2012 it became home to the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and Dutch Chamber Orchestra (NedPho/NKO). NedPho/NKO had for some time been seeking a new rehearsal space and with Stadherstel's expertise, the heart of church was altered to create an ideal facility. The space is also used for small-scale concerts, lectures and receptions and the NedPho Dome, as it is commonly known, is highly regarded as an important cultural hub.
