Germany - At ProLight&Sound in Frankfurt, Kling & Freitag presented new products and a new booth concept marked by high columns, a welcoming product presentation and a huge elevated talking platform

USA - Audio-Technica is holding a series of informative audio demonstration and instruction events during NAB 2010 this week.

Throughout today, Tuesday and Wednesday, audio/broadcast veteran Michael Abbott, perhaps best known as audio coordinator for the Grammy Awards, will present multi-track microphone mixing demonstrations entitled Mix a Basketball Game in 5.1.

The sessions will allow attendees to mix a basketball game under Abbott's direction. Switzerland - Contact microphone manufacturer Schertler has just released its new sensor for banjo, the D-Dyn-Banjo. Using the company's DYN technology, the electro-dynamic transducer has been specially developed to give both a natural and reliable reproduction of the instrument's complex sound characteristics.

Fitted with an XLR connector to ensure professional quality connection in a range of performance situations, the D-Dyn-Banjo is easy to install and unobtrusive when attached to the instrument. UK - Analogue mixing console manufacturer Audient has announced the extension of its scrappage scheme to all UK customers. Purchasers willing to trade-in their old console will receive £2000 off the published price of a new ASP8024 or ACS8024 high resolution mixing desk until the end of June 2010.

Sales Director Luke Baldry explains: "As we had hoped, this scheme has been very successful with studios as well as colleges and universities, providing an easy way of releasing capital from their older consoles. There are a number of older consoles out there, particularly digital consoles that are becoming unreliable and difficult to service. This scheme provides the perfect opportunity to upgrade to one of our brand new analogue consoles."

The scheme accepts any old console, be it analogue or digital, and is subject to qualification.

USA - At NAB 2010 this week, Barco is introducing a powerful new line of 3G/HD/SD-SDI and Analogue routers. Specifically designed for the needs of the events market, the new routers are integrated with the Encore and ScreenPRO-II presentation systems.

The MatrixPRO-II series provides a flexible and dependable routing solution of 3G/HD/SD-SDI and high speed analogue signals for simple and complex configurations at an affordable price, says the company.

The line is offered in three models, 8x8, 16x16 and 32x32, in a slim, power efficient package that is only 2.2 inches deep. All three models support 3G/HD/SD-SDI signals at bit rates of 19.4Mbps to 3Gbps. Reclockers are standard on all three models. The routers can be controlled from the front panel, Ethernet or RS-232. UK - RCF will be showing newly developed products for both their Professional and Commercial catalogues - with the flagship being the UK debut of the VSA 2050 Digital Steerable Column at PLASA Focus in Leeds this month.

Visitors will be given a special sneak preview of this multi-amplified vertical steerable array which "embraces the new generation of digital technology".

With inbuilt DSPs, the audio signal sent to each speaker is processed and optimised for controlling its vertical acoustic dispersion pattern. This will make it a suitable speaker for indoor installations where the critical acoustic environment is an issue and where moderate visual impact is required.

Germany - ProLight&Sound 2010 saw Dutch loudspeaker manufacturer Alcons Audio creating a buzz on the trade show floor with an array of products that sees it confirm its place as a major player in the pro audio market.

On show were the LR7 micro pro-ribbon line-array and LR7B micro line-array bass unit, plus the Cinema Ribbon Monitor System (CRMS) three-way reference cinema sound system, first seen at this year's ISE Show.

However, the most noteworthy product on display was the new LR24 pro-ribbon line-array system, which is a major development for Alcons and marks an important advance for the company within the concert touring and large-scale installation market.

Germany - GLP and G-LEC exhibited together for the first time at this year's ProLight&Sound Show in Frankfurt, with the large (260m²) stand fully lit with LED. This joint appearance saw nearly 120m² of G-LEC Phantom 30 LED video display and over 100 different impression units in various LED assemblies (warm and cold white / RGB / 5-colour XL / XL RGBWWC).

The presentation included four new developments from GLP - the Volkslicht Zoom (at the lower end of the LED range), the impression 300 RZ (at the upper end), the Creation II-2048 controller and the impression Meisterstück.

Head of marketing, Uli Steinle, said he was more than satisfied with the reaction. "This year again the large number of visitors was a pleasant surprise to us," he said.

Previewing at the show is the Chroma-Q Color Force 72 / 48 range of 6ft 12,000 lumens output and 4ft 8,000 lumens output LED battens. The range provides a smooth, uniform coverage for washing areas up to 26ft high.

UK - Stage lighting and audio distributors MilTec (UK) will be showing their successful MT Audio and MT Lighting product ranges at PLASA Focus in Leeds.

Designed by MilTec's technical director Graham Gosden, the Audio range consists of speakers, lightweight amplifiers (max 13.5kg) and mixers. The speaker range comprises of four mid-top speakers and four sub-bass cabinets, all constructed from birch plywood. These are complemented by two small in-fill speakers made from high density plastic. Power is supplied by six stereo amplifiers delivering up to 1850 Watts RMS per channel. Germany - TOA Europe revealed their eagerly awaited EN 54 European standard fire alarm audio products at this year's ProLight&Sound. TOA now offers a fully certified audio control and speaker system.
