UK - The opening day of the ABTT (Association of British Theatre Technicians) annual trade show saw Strand announce its first customer for its new Palette range of consoles. White Light, based in London and Halifax, UK, have ordered their first three classicPalette consoles for immediate duty in its rental stock.

Dave Isherwood, technical director of White Light says: "We were impressed with the power and flexibility of the new console and the new click and point graphic environment. We already have a large fleet of 500 series consoles which remain very popular across a broad range of users so we could see that being able to introduce the Palette series in addition brings this new Strand control system within the range of an even larger number of users."

UK - AVW has again won the prestigious Product of the Year Award in the Engineering category at this year's ABTT Theatre Show - for Pegasus, its new Power Flying System. The company previously won the award in 2002 for its Impressario motion control system.

UK - Out Board have supplied Star Events Group with a pair of CM6 chain-hoist controllers and their new LiftSafe product, as the main control system for eleven 2-tonne CM Lodestar hoists deployed to fly the massive new Wembley Arena mother-grid built and supplied by the company.

Star rigging consultant Phil Broad's brief to Out Board was to provide a failsafe system that would halt all the hoists if it detected any one or more of them stopped or failed to move. This was achieved by fitting each of the hoists with Out Board's high-resolution optical encoder modules, the outputs of which were all connected back to the new LiftSafe Hoist Controller Safety System located in the CM6 controller rack high in the roof of the Arena.

Belgium - Philips Lumileds Lighting Company announced today that it has established new luminance performance records for solid-state lighting technology at 1 Amp. Among the new benchmarks reported by Philips are:
For white devices, luminance of 38 meganits (Mcd/m2), approximately 50% more luminance than that of an automotive headlamp halogen bulb (~25 meganits) was achieved.
For InGaN blue devices, a radiance of 200mW/mm2sr was realised.

USA / Europe - Color Kinetics reports that its product lines now comply with the RoHS environmental directive, in accordance with the 1 July, 2006 deadline. RoHS calls for the restriction of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment sold into the European market.
