UK - Between the 15th - 19th August 2017, four very brave employees from Crewsaders will attempt to swim the English Channel to raise funds for Backup.
Kieren Stephens, Matt Tector, Jon Selwyn and Will Nutbeen will swim in a relay with each one of them taking one hour long stints in the water. The 21 mile wide channel is the busiest shipping lane in the world, but the team will also have to contend with very cold water, shoals of jellyfish and diesel fumes from the pilot vessel that will accompany them.
The team have collectively worked in the events industry for close to 40 years, and decided that it was time to give something back to the industry they love. They are currently undergoing a rigorous training regime to build strength, endurance, long distance swimming techniques and tolerance to the cold.

Europe - Claypaky unveiled a number of new products at Prolight+Sound, all featured in the company’s Immersive Experience themed stand. USA - The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas has entered a new era of colour rendering with the addition of almost 40 Chauvet Professional LED fixtures.
“Our church had a very beautiful video created for its traditional and contemporary services,” said Bobby Dennis, the technical director at the well-known house of worship. “The video featured a father and son talking about the colours they encounter on a daily basis and how they relate to the message of Easter, with red for the cross and white for the resurrection and things of that nature.”

UK - PRG XL Video recently supported lighting designer Richard Howell and production manager Stuart Tucker, for the opening show at the newly renamed and renovated London theatre, The Other Palace. PRG XL Video account manager John Pauls worked closely with Richard, Stuart and production electrician Neil Foster to supply the lighting for The Wild Party during a seven-week run in central London, between February and April.
The Wild Party is a musical theatre production adapted from a book by Michael John LaChiusa and George C Wolfe, with music and lyrics by LaChiusa, based on Joseph Moncure March’s 1928 narrative poem of the same name. The show premiered off-Broadway in 2000, before this 2017 revival at London’s newest producing theatre.

“The ballet is by Veronica Paeper, a renowned South African choreographer from Cape Town, and Peter Cazalet, the set designer,” said Simon. “They have specific looks so when I create something they will say ‘yes or no’, or perhaps ask me to tinker. USA - Guitarist and mandolinist Andy Wood recently wrapped a special performance at the historic Bijou Theatre with a lighting package provided by Bandit Lites. The special, one night only show was recorded and featured guest performances by fiddler Brian Arrowood, singer-songwriter Kendra Chantelle, bassist Todd Parks, musician Travis Toy and Ben Lacy.
While Wood had been playing mandolin since the age of five, winning the World Championship Mandolin championship at the age of 16, Wood picked up an electric guitar as a teenager, only to find himself beating 3400 guitarists at the Guitar Center Guitarmageddon contest at 22. Over a decade later, Wood has performed with Rascal Flatts, Sebastian Bach, and formed his own band, in addition to releasing a double album in 2015, Caught Between the Truth & a Lie.

Eventually, the rise of the open-air automobile blew the lid off the fancy hat business, leading most of those farms to close, but the world’s largest bird lives on in the town, thanks to its annual Ostrich Festival.

Singapore - The first rental and technical production company in Singapore – and indeed south east Asia - to invest in Robe’s new Spiider LED wash beam fixtures is Expo AV-InSync which works locally and internationally throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Around 70 per cent of their work is in the conference and MICE sectors and several high profile tech and financial clients and also one of the preferred production equipment supplier to Singapore Expo. Sister company Digital Kitchen Studios creates video content including animations and engages in post-production and video mapping projects. The company designs shows as well as supplying kit and working with independent creative teams.
Currently they have upwards of 200 Robe fixtures in the lighting inventory. When the Spiider was launched last year, it was good timing as they were looking for new LED wash lights.

Germany - J&C Joel demonstrated they were the ringleader of fabrics when they showcased their big top circus tent stand at Prolight + Sound Frankfurt.
The tradeshow stand was inspired by the Madagascar themed circus tent the company created at Motiongate Dubai, a theme park within Dubai Parks and Resorts.
As visitors rolled up to the stand they were transported to a circus complete with a red and blue Deko Molton big top, sand effect digitally printed Joelmat flooring, an 8m by 4m seamless canvas digitally printed with a big top tent and popcorn for everyone to enjoy.
People were also able to view an impressive black and silver Reefer String drape, a seamless projection screen with video content about the company’s recent work and a variety of tracks.

USA - When Brandon Baruch first heard from a friend about Nick Wylie’s plans to produce the Bataré tour, he realized that this innovative show was something he would like to light. “I tend to gravitate towards projects that require an unconventional design approach,” he said. “So, when Nick told me the concept of the piece, I was immediately drawn in by the fusion of styles and genres. I was also intrigued to learn there was a narrative arc for the performers, because it speaks to my theatre background as well.”
After a meeting with Wylie of Testu Productions, Baruch got his wish. Designing for the current Bataré tour, he has conveyed the emotional flow of this multi-faceted acrobatic Taiko rock show with a colourful and flexible lighting design, using a collection of Chauvet Professional fixtures supplied by Kinetic Lighting.

South Africa - Andrew Rodgers has joined South African based DWR Distribution. With his considerable experience in project management, technical skill and maintenance contracts, Andi will head the DWR Installation Department.
Born and raised in Liverpool, Andi did various maintenance and repair contracts at recording studios such as the Ezee Studio and prior to that the Pink Studio in the UK before moving to South Africa in 1990 where he was offered a maintenance positioned at Sun City’s Superbowl.
His colourful career has seen him working at Prosound in electronics design and maintenance, and he also did a stint or two as a freelancer in South East Asia where he worked on various projects including the project management for an audio recording studio for Taffix Solutions of Brunei.

Europe - Boston-based lighting designer Jeff Maker once again chose Robe as his main moving lights for the most recent UK and European tour for US rockers All Time Low which was a teaser for their upcoming Last Young Renegade album release, scheduled for release in June.
The band combine their hi-energy, in-the-face mix of gritty pop punk rock with a relentlessly busy touring schedule and are renowned for their live performances. Europe is an ever-popular destination and on this tour they played a whole range of venues encompassing academies, town halls and arenas.
Lighting was supplied by Zig Zag Lighting from Leeds, UK. Prominent on the rig were 15 Robe Spiider wash beams, part of a batch newly purchased by the rental company for this tour, together with other Robe luminaires like BMFL Spots, Pointes and CycFX 8s.

USA - American heavy rock band Tesla has cultivated a loyal fan base over the last 30 years, playing an unpretentious, blue-collar style of music that hard rock audiences love. For an ongoing tour that started in January, band lighting designer and creative director Ignacio “Iggy” Rosenberg is using an Elation rig to complement the band’s big rock sound and surprising (to some) long list of hits.
“The main thing was they were venturing into having more of a production for the first time in years, so we were trying to be cautious about spending too much, but also giving them as much of a show as we could,” commented Iggy, who has been working with the band for the past three years. “This was a great tour to understand the concept of providing something that was inexpensive, but not cheap.”

USA - LD Matt Guminski was called in to design American pop singer-songwriter JoJo’s 2017 Mad Love Tour just a week before the tour launched in February and turned to Elation Professional moving heads and effect lights to light the re-emerging popstar’s show. Touring in support of her Mad Love album which came out last October – her first album release since the mid 2000s – JoJo is selling out 900-1800 capacity venues at nearly every stop and is clearly on her way back to top star status after charting in 2004 as a 13-year old.
His first time working with JoJo, Matt felt an immediate bond with the artist, who grew up in Boston near where he calls home, and took the short lead time in stride.
