UK - The South Downs Planetarium at the Sir Patrick Moore building in Chichester, Sussex, UK, reopened following a technology upgrade and installation of a new media server and show control system from 7thSense Design.
The upgrade of the 100-seat star theatre was led by Brighton-based immersive experience experts TEQ4. Working closely with TEQ4, 7thSense integrated a single Delta Nano Media Server and show control system as a cost-effective yet powerful solution for the two-channel fulldome display.
Martin Howe, founder and managing director of TEQ4 commented, “Delta was the obvious package for this project. It can play uncompressed images straight from Fulldome content without the time-consuming slicing that is often necessary. Also, the enhanced User Interface feature allows the operators to control the entire system from a browser running on a tablet. This all-in-

Belgium - Visual design practice Painting with Light's Paco Mispelters has added imagination and style to the current Studio 100 tour of new youth musical Unidamu.
The tour visits four Belgian theatres and is a co-production with TV channel Ketnet. The Unidamu (Universe of Dance & Music) journey started with Ketnet Musical, a talent scouting competition TV show with a mission to source new singing, dancing and acting talent, resulting in 24 fresh and enthusiastic faces picked from 12,000 hopefuls to make up the cast.
Painting with Light and Studio 100 have enjoyed a long and positive working relationship and this is the third edition of the musical show. It has a strong anti-bullying narrative and tells the tale of two worlds - a reality which is grey and devoid of music, fun or entertainment and the sci-fi fantasy world of Unidamu - fil

USA - Antioch Bible Baptist is not the largest church in the world, but it is making a difference in every corner of the globe. Each fall the suburban Kansas City house of worship hosts a Go Global Missions Conference, at which its members are asked to make a promise to support one of its 75 global missions, which stretch from Uruguay to the Philippines to Tanzania. The church doesn’t confine its work to overseas either; operating under the motto, Not in the city but for the city, it also does a great deal of outreach work closer to home.
Wanting to devote its resources to these missions, the church is careful not to overspend on its main campus north of Kansas City. However, music plays an important role in its two Sunday services, and its sermons are featured on live podcasts, so it needed quality sound and lighting systems to engage worshippers. It got both recen

UK - Robe's new Spiider LED wash beam is a versatile fixture that is making an impact in many environments and even a few Spiiders will go a long way as lighting designer Gareth Weaver recently demonstrated when lighting a UK tour of intense dance piece The Suffocating Truth, created by Lukas McFarlane of The Untitled Dance Company.
The show visited five cities and played totally different spaces in each. Apart from being highly adaptable, Gareth needed a rig that would fit into a trailer and work aesthetically in the six unique venues, that was also flexible enough to provide dynamic lighting for the work which explores sexuality, expectation and emotional crises.
In addition to the four Spiiders which were on the floor at each corner of the space, Gareth also used four Robe DL4S Profiles on Manfrotto stands. Moving lights were “absolutely essential to get th

The Netherlands - Since opening its doors to the public in 2011, the 700-capacity Gebouw-T concert venue in Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands, has been a staple for up-and-coming acts on the Benelux touring circuit. To give students and concertgoers alike the best possible experience in live production, the venue recently decided to replace its outdated moving heads. South Africa - Simon King is flying solo after working at the State Theatre in Pretoria for 28 years. He recently took a seat behind a grandMA2 full-size to light La Traviata, a stirring love story brought to The Joburg Theatre by the Joburg Ballet, and complimented with the music of Giuseppe Verdi.
“The ballet is by Veronica Paeper, a renowned South African choreographer from Cape Town, and Peter Cazalet, the set designer,” said King. “They have specific looks so when I create something they will say ‘yes or no’, or perhaps ask me to tinker. These are classic productions but I’m also given the liberty to play. Having worked with the ballet company since 1993, it’s like working with old friends.”
King programmed the lighting on a grandMA2 full-size, what he describes as his happy desk. “It always works for me – it’s like my other limb and I

UK - Yes featuring Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman, a newly formed group of the progressive rock band's core members, played a well-received show at Manchester Apollo, captured by Eagle Rock Entertainment for DVD. As the filming required precise lighting levels, Jonathan Pask of Illuminate Lighting Ltd designed a reliable multi-user control system of networked Avolites consoles to ensure each look was on point for camera.
"As the show was filmed for release later this year, it needed to be both amazing for the live audience and for those at home," says Pask. "I've used Avolites since I started out as an LD and their consoles have never let me down. The multi-console set-up for Manchester allowed us to both run the show smoothly and provide real-time management of the light levels, so that the cameras could capture high-quality footage."

Germany - Ray Technologies, a Laserworld company, has introduced their new RTI PIKO RGB 20 with a high precision diode module as a substitution for the OPSL green laser source. This change in technology for the green colour spectrum became possible due to new diode arrays that have been developed by RTI’s R&D in Valley, Germany.
The homogenous beam profile of the PIKO RGB 20 even fits small 4mm scanner mirrors, which results in high scanner performance, as the inertia of the scanners is kept very low. The CT-6210H scanners can do 60kpps @ 8° and still do 35kpps at their maximum scan angle of 80°. Besides the small beam diameter, the RTI PIKO RGB 20 maintains a very low divergence of <1.0mrad, so the small beam diameter is not negatively impacting the divergence at all.
The RTI PIKO RGB 20 laser systems are especially designed and tailored for high profession

China - Driver Terry Grant recently repeated his Jaguar SUV F-PACE loop-the-loop stunt on a 19m ramp. This time, the setting was located on the famous sea front - the Bund in Shanghai.
Grant’s first time performing this hazardous act was in Frankfurt, Germany, where he broke the Guinness World Record back in 2015. Both times, production company Imagination highlighted the event with SGM G-Spot moving heads, ensuring that the impressive spectacle was highlighted in a worthy and festive manner.
Project manager Alex Qian from Imagination says: “The Chinese market is being flooded with cheap lighting fixtures. However, we wanted nothing less than the best of the best that could display the luxury car brand Jaguar the way it deserved to be. After a test of the G-Spot, there was no doubt: Delivering the strongest colours and being IP65-rated, the G-Spot was the optimum
