UK - Pharos Architectural Controls is introducing the LPC X, a big brother to the award-winning LPC1 and LPC2. This Lighting Playback Controller offers capacities up to a massive 100 DMX universes from a single unit, taking control for large installations to a whole new level, says the company.

The LPC X supports a variety of control protocols to suit different project needs, including DMX-over-Ethernet standards such as Pathport, ArtNet, ETCNet2 and Streaming ACN. Also provided are DVI and Firewire DV outputs for integrating with arrays of fixtures that require video-based control.

There is also a framework in place to support custom protocols for bespoke projects. Multiple different protocols can be output simultaneously from a single unit giving synchronised control across an installation and making the LPC X a flexible answer for large-scale control.

UK - Power Logistics supplied all of the power and site lighting to the V Festival in Hylands Park, with a team of 15 installing 25km of cabling and distro to carry the power from 103 generators around the Essex site. In the region of 70,000 litres of fuel were used to power everything from cash point machines up to the main stage's PA, lighting and screens.

More than 6km of festoon lighting lit temporary roadways and footpaths for the 70,000 music fans and the production team that transformed Hylands Park into a festival town for the weekend of music. Power Logistics used shatterproof light bulbs on the festoon, minimising the environmental impact to the park.

UK - Directed by Ed Curtis and designed by Bob Bailey with lighting from James Whiteside the touring production of Never Forget uses a wide variety of LEDs. For lighting control a grandMA full-size, a grandMA light, a grandMA video media server and an MA NSP are utilised.

Amongst others the lighting rig features Clay Paky Alpha Wash Halos, Vari*Lite VL 1000, VL2000 spots and VL2000 washes, Rainbow Scrollers and Robert Juliat Super Korrigans.

On the LED front there are Thomas PixelLine 1044 battens and a ChromaQ Color Web 250 flexible LED mesh grid installed in the show. Because of the full integration of grandMA video, the media server could be controlled as a fixture. The PixelLine battens are controlled directly from the console so that effects can be created quickly by using the grandMA effects.

Australia - LSC Lighting Systems will officially unveil the full TEKO dimmer range at PLASA 07. Born from LSC's successful EKO installation dimmer, the TEKO is designed for use in the television, film and live entertainment industries.

There are four models available in the TEKO range, from the 12-channel 3kW through to the 3-channel 15kW model, with the ability to control any inductive or reactive load with a 100% duty cycle. The TEKO also has the option to include LSC's Houston Remote Monitoring Software and ePlates to externally recall pre-recorded memories.

The TEKO joins a growing catalogue of products at LSC, including the, maXim Lighting Control Console, EKO Dimming Systems and the Delta range of distribution products. The full LSC range will be on show at PLASA 07.

UK - Wybron has announced that it is launching and previewing six new products at PLASA 07. During three 45-minute sessions, Wybron's CEO, Larry Turner, will preview each new product and discuss the company's direction to current Wybron/PRG Distribution dealers.

In February 2007, Wybron's new management team presented plans for actively picking up the pace of its product development. The company promised to introduce one product per month from April 2007 through the start of this year's trade show season.

UK - When Jedi Lighting & Sound were asked to install two new Essex nightclubs recently, they enlisted Futurelight distributors Fut-Euro - not only to meet their beam effect requirements, but also for their creative LED lighting.

Set up last year by Darren Jackson, the Wisbech-based Fut-Euro has quickly become a one-stop shop for lighting designers and architects looking for imaginative ideas in a wide number of applications.

Said Jedi managing director Andrew Baldwin, "What we aim for first is reliability and value for money. If we need something specific Darren can usually find it - but any new kit we are offered we will strip and pull apart before we have the confidence to use it."

USA - Elation Professional has chosen Eric Proces of Madison, Wisconsin, as the winner of the Elation Education Experience. Proces won judges over with his "excellent use of Elation Lighting products and interesting proposal that ensured a multi-purpose use of space". The runners up were Andrew Prince of Como, Mississippi and James Keeley of Wausau, Wisconsin, both of whom also submitted impressive entries.

The E3 contest was designed to help students learn the process of creating a functional and entertaining lighting design. Each entrant designed lighting for a multi-purpose Youth Ministry room by using Elation's Compu Ware Live 3D software. To make the contest more realistic and challenging, entrants had to follow a strict budget and had only a limited amount of power available.

UK - Wybron is launching and previewing the Nexera DX at PLASA 2007. The Nexera DX combines Wybron's award winning virtually silent colour changing fixture with a dimmer and 24V power supply.

A variant on the Super Korrigan spotlight, which is in-use on many shows including Avenue Q and Footloose in London's West End, Victor shares the Super Korrigan's 7-14.5° optical path and compact design, but uses a 1800W MSR lamp instead of the Korrigan's 1200W HMI.

A&O will introduce a new, "revolutionary Falcon xenon fixture", details of which will be revealed at the show. Also showing will be the complete range of Falcon fixtures by Alpha One of Germany. Argentina - A remarkable opening and closing ceremony framed the Pan American Games 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, a multi-sport event, held every four years between competitors from all nations of the Americas. German event engineering company Procon furnished the shows with an MA system including four grandMA full-size, 18 MA NSPs and seven MA 2PortNodes onPC. Lighting designer David Grill used the system to control 742 Martin MAC 2000 Wash fixtures, 122 Clay Paky Alpha Spots, 51 ZAP 4.5kW BigLites and 32 SpaceCannon Ireos 7kW - altogether 52 DMX universes.

USA - Wybron will launch the DPS-850, a distributed dimmer and power supply unit that provides an 800 watt dimmer and 50 watt power supply, at PLASA 07. The DPS-850 is a standalone distributed dimmer that is designed for retrofit installations or remote locations.

"We created the DPS-850 especially with the small to medium theatre and houses of worship in mind," says Miles Dudgeon, director of marketing at Wybron. "These users are frequently housed in historical or older buildings and often do not have the ability to add what could be significant new wiring for centralised dimming. Australia - In 2006 the Dandenong Council awarded the contract for the Vessels of Light to landscape architects and artist team Sinatra Murphy P/L. The aim of the project was to create a series of pedestrian focussed art markers at various locations emanating from the Drum theatre at Dandenong Town Hall.

Sinatra Murphy has proven experience in developing public art projects and its response has enabled seven Vessels of Light to be located at four different locations across central Dandenong.

Each vessel incorporates a dynamic lighting element that allows the vessels to be animated after dark creating a special night time experience.

Germany - When the 62nd edition of the International Motor Show (IAA) opens its doors on 13 September, Element Labs' Stealth LED display solution will be there to add glamour to the booths of some of the world's foremost automotive manufacturers. IAA Passenger Cars is the biggest trade show for cars and accessories in Europe. It is held every two years and in 2005 the show attracted 900,000 visitors, with attendance expected to be as high again this year.

Australia - Enttec Pty and CAST Software have released a wysiwyg driver for DMX USB Pro. The companies report that testing is now complete of a new, inexpensive driver that enables wysiwyg users to plug their DMX consoles into an Enttec DMX USB Pro, which acts as the interface to their computer.

The DMX USB Pro is already supported by over a dozen software packages, ranging from lighting control programmes (ShowCAD, LightFactory, MagicQ, FreeStyler) to Media Servers (Arkaos, Resolume), visualizers and miscellaneous other software programmes (Virtual Magic Sheet, Capture).

While wysiwyg supports numerous lighting consoles directly through Ethernet, relatively few third-party developers create hardware interfaces that are compatible with the programme. CAST Software has included the relevant library file in wysiwyg Perform Release 20.

UK - Celebrating its 30th birthday at PLASA07, James Thomas Engineering (JTE) will be unveiling the beginning of a new corporate identity and announcing the restructuring of the sales team.

Andy Walters will head up the sales team supported by Chris Waller as special projects manager. Walters has been involved with PixelRange for the last five years, but has returned to the generic lighting and truss side of JTE to concentrate on the development of the existing product range and the creation of new concepts.

Walters explains, "The next few months will be an exciting time, we will present two new product catalogues at PLASA and new web site will be launched towards the end of the year. Both Chris and I are looking forward to new JTE era."

UK - LSC Lighting Systems, Australian designers and manufacturers of lighting control equipment, will launch the new Redback Dimmer at PLASA07. The Redback will be unleashed at 2pm on Monday 10 September at the LSC booth D83, part of the White Light Zone.

Available as a 2RU (with rear mount connectors) or a 4RU (with front mount connectors), the Redback offers programmable Min. and Max. Levels and dimmer curves for each channel, a soft-patch facility, and on-board support for six internal scenes with fade times and six chases (with speed control), allowing it to be used as a stand alone dimmer.

UK - Robe moving lights have been installed at Glasgow's very 'happening' nightspot Byblos - a 900 capacity venue housed in the basement of an atmospheric listed building in Albion Street - in the Merchant City area of town.

These were specified by Andrew O'Neill of Glasgow-based design and installation company Flashlite. "As always from an installer's viewpoint" he says, "reliability is a key factor - you need fixtures that are going to work with an absolute minimum of fuss and maintenance - so Robe is an obvious choice."
