India - The NSE Exhibition Complex (formerly the Bombay Exhibition Centre) in Mumbai has been announced as the venue for the first PALA / Install India exhibition, in a switch from the originally announced Andheri Sports Complex. This move has been prompted by a greater than anticipated interest by international and regional exhibitors, and a consequent increase in the projected number of expected visitors, say organisers IIR.

PALA India will be held from 5-7 October 2006 in Mumbai, the event is based on the successful model of the PALME exhibition in Dubai aimed specifically at the events, entertainment and installation technology sectors. French firework expert Group F has an impressive back catalogue, including the display during the 2006 New Year celebrations at the London Eye, the spectacular show on the Eiffel Tower during the millennium celebrations in Paris and the opening and closing ceremonies of the Athens Olympics. Dubai - The fourth annual PALME 2006 show took place on 23-25 of April in Dubai's World Trade Centre. The show's organisers claimed a 30% increase in visitor numbers after the event, so were the exhibitors' palms crossed with goldΩ

The exhibition comprised three individual sector shows, Install, Event 360 and MUSAC. Install unsurprisingly focussed on the installation market, Event 360 targeted those with event and production needs, and MUSAC catered for the musical instrument market. PALME's well-developed seminar programme ran alongside.

UK / India - Charter has supplied 16 radio mics and engineering support for the Sport Relief Celebrity cricket match in Bombay filmed by the BBC, with just three days notice. The match in aid of Sport Relief, between a UK all-stars team and a Bollywood Megastar 11, required a radio mic on every player on the cricket pitch and contracted a local company to provide the necessary equipment. At the last minute it became clear that that many radio mics could not be made available in the time within the available budget. Tim Hunt, a freelance sound man who has worked with Charter on such programmes as Springwatch knew that Charter were radio mic experts and introduced Kimberley Littlemore, the BBC producer responsible for the programme, to Colin Bowman, audio engineer at Charter Broadcast.

The heart of the system is the iDR-64, a 19" rack-mounting modular mix engine providing 64 channels into 32 mixes. Germany - Charter Broadcast reports it is continuing its successful relationship with ITV and the FIFA World Cup following a competitive tender against a number of suppliers. This most recent commission to work with ITV will be third consecutive World Cup that Charter has been invited to work on. Charter is responsible for building and running the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC) for ITV which forms the hub of ITV's coverage in Germany.
