Spain - Mallorca’s Bierkönig at Ballermann has been setting new standards in lighting and event technology since the opening of its newly created event area. The German event technology service provider RheinlandAkustik is in charge of the lighting design for the modernised area in the popular party location on the island. At the heart of the concept is a comprehensive lighting technology set-up based on more than 300 Cameo lights.
The collaboration between the Bierkönig and RheinlandAkustik began in 2023 with the Kölsche Woche (Cologne Week) – an event format that brings Cologne Carnival to the island. What began as a successful start has evolved into a strong partnership and now culminated in the newly created event area.
“We were involved in the technical planning at an early stage and were able to coordinate our concepts closely with the customer,” explains Hendrik Brock, managing director of RheinlandAkustik. The extensive renovations began in 2024 and required close collaboration with other trades. The last phase of technical installation was finalised on site about seven weeks before the opening.
When it came to selecting the lighting technology, the project team consciously chose to focus on a single manufacturer: “We wanted as many lights as possible from a single source – and Cameo impressed us with the variety of products, quality, and strong price-performance ratio,” adds project manager Nico Decker. The experience gained from previous projects with Cameo also had a particularly positive effect.
The lighting design in the new Bierkönig area is designed to maximise flexibility. Compact Azor B1 Beam Moving Heads are used and mounted on two truss circles above the stage and along the ceiling in the rear area. These are supplemented by Azor S2 Spots above the stage and the counters as well as Azor W2 Washlights placed in front of the stage and backdrop. Zenit W600/W300 SMD and Pixbar SMD IP G2 LED Bars provide impressive pixel effects.
One of the installation’s key features is the pixel-perfect control of the 190 Cameo Rootbar SMD lights along the roof beams, which trace the architecture of the room and play a role in the space's unique atmosphere. “The lighting design in the new Bierkönig area can be summed up in three words: versatile, evocative, and contemporary,” states Nico Decker.
Root PAR TW LED-PARs with flexibly adjustable white light are used for ambient lighting and well suited for illuminating the counters. RheinlandAkustik installed various Thunder Wash 100 RGB and 600 RGB LED washers with strobe and blinder functions to indirectly light the ceiling and dome areas. All in all, the complete Cameo lighting design in the Bierkönig ensures the highest level of adaptability: from party hits and DJ sets to thematic weeks and corporate events.
