UK - Treehouse London occupies the site of the former Saint Georges hotel on Langham Place, boasting some of the best views of any London hotel. Combined with a playful aesthetic, a determinedly sustainable ethic and some excellent food and drink options, Treehouse London offers one of the capital’s most surprising and joyful hospitality experiences.
Inaugurated on 31 October 2019, the hotel was rapidly forced to close its doors again in the face of the pandemic; 18 months later as the world makes a cautious return to normality, Treehouse London is welcoming guests once more to experience its hospitality. Specialist AV integrators Promotiontime NE were called in to design and specify the AV systems across the bar and restaurant areas that occupy the entirety of the 15th and

USA - Meyer Sound has redoubled its long-standing corporate commitment to green touring with the introduction of the Panther large-format linear line array loudspeaker.
Panther has been designed for a reduced carbon footprint in manufacturing, transport, and operation, says the company, adding that its commitment to sustainability will be reflected in all future product development, campus facilities, technical support initiatives, and education programmes.
The design criteria for Panther required a substantial reduction in size and weight compared to prior generations of line array loudspeakers, as well as at least a 20% reduction in power consumption to achieve the same acoustic output. The result is a system with a peak acoustic output exceeding 150dB SPL and weighing under 68kg, retaining the same slender width of the Lyon linear line array loudspeaker but with nea

UK - Harlequin Floors has launched a pioneering new floor system. Harlequin Liberty Switch is a professional multi-use floor that can be switched from a rigid theatrical floor to a sprung dance floor at the touch of a button.
This innovative and versatile floor has been designed for venues who regularly put on both dance and theatrical performances and so require both a sprung and a rigid floor in the same performance or rehearsal space.
Harlequin Liberty Switch is a modular multi-use floor system comprised of a base unit with the drive and control mechanism topped with a Harlequin Liberty sprung floor. The base units house a series of moving carriages connected by rods running on high-strength carrier rails powered by electric actuators located at the ends of each row. Each actuator and associated controller are linked to a master control unit located off-stage.

Germany - Austrian Audio has announced that its OC Sound is accessible for even more artists with the new OD505 WL1 and OC707 WL1 Wireless Microphone Capsule for Shure radio systems.
Matched to the human voice, the OC707 WL1 provides ‘great volume and allows all the subtlety and detail of the vocals to stand out in the mix without anything being overemphasized’. The microphone’s proximity effect has been optimised so that it can be used to the singer’s advantage in any performance, retaining the character of their voice at various distances from the mic and with changes in mic technique.
The OD505 WL1 is a suitable performance partner for any artist, whether lead or backing vocals. It’s natural tuning and strong signal quality provide the perfect foundation to bring out the strengths of any vocalist with minimal tweaking required. In many live situations, amb

The Netherlands - Dutch architect Jo Coenen’s buildings don’t merely blend into an environment, they become part of it. This is evident in Schouwburg Concertzaal Tilburg, an impressive modernistic edifice in the cultural heart of the city with large glass walls and recessed surfaces that erase all barriers between the building and the urban landscape outside.
When this cultural landmark celebrated its 25th anniversary recently, the community wanted to do something special to mark the occasion. With this in mind, the venue contacted designer Max de Kam of Maximal Lighting to create a display on the building’s curved rooftop façade.
Building on the theme of a popular multi-colour light art piece inside the building, the design team decided to feature a rainbow display on the rooftop. This design, with its panoramic hues, was also especially fitting, given the dive

USA - Hudson Hall resides in an historic and landmarked building housing New York State’s oldest surviving theatre. It’s where Frederic Church displayed his paintings, Bret Harte read his poetry, ‘Blind Tom’ Wiggins packed the house with his keyboard virtuosity, where Henry Ward Beecher delivered a rousing abolitionist lecture, and Teddy Roosevelt once electrified a crowd.
Abandoned for decades, the building was saved when local citizens came together in 1992 to establish a cultural centre there to serve its diverse community.
In 2017, Hudson Hall completed a $9.5m restoration of its performance hall to support a thriving creative economy in the town of, and the region around, Hudson, New York. The next step in Hudson Hall’s journey has now been taken, with the installation of a DiGiCo S21 console used to mix the venue’s front-of-house sound, monitors, and

Europe - Genesis reunited for The Last Domino? world tour, their first since 2007. Longtime creative director for the band, Patrick Woodroffe, worked with Roland Greil to design the set and lighting for the tour.
Genesis core members Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks kicked off the COVID-delayed tour last September in Birmingham, England then played a US leg in November and December. The open-ended tour continued in Europe through March.
The lighting design called for 148 versatile Claypaky Scenius Unico spot, wash and beam lights which were supplied by Neg Earth.
“As Genesis has a rich history of pushing the envelope in terms of show design, it was important to keep that momentum going for their return to the stage,” says Roland Greil. “For Patrick and myself it was key to create a very versatile and theatrical design, which allows for all kind

China - LiLi Time, a café located on the busy Mengzi Road in Shanghai, cultivates a community where people that are deaf or hard of hearing can feel comfortable, and their experience has now been enhanced with a Genelec G Series loudspeaker system.
Zhang Lili admits that she hadn’t heard of the Genelec brand before, but that she and several members of the team shared a common love for music, believing that good sonic quality can bring a positive emotional experience, which is why LiLi Time ended up choosing a Genelec solution over other audio brands.
"Actually, when people wear a hearing aid, they can hear a little sound," Zhang Lili explains. "The deaf customers and staff will tell me that they can feel the vibration of the sound. After considering our options, we chose a Genelec audio solution due to the brand’s superior sound texture and the direct emotional ex

USA - The band played mostly Cheap Trick songs during its hour-long set, but this was no ordinary tribute show. In fact, it wasn’t an ordinary concert of any kind, taking place as it did in a private airport hangar with no live audience.
Once the music started, both of those things were quickly forgotten, as the mood took on the look and feel of one of those wall-rattling performances that made the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band famous a generation ago.
The authenticity of the music was easy to explain. The band on stage, The Neilson Trust, is made up of Rick Nielson, an original member of Cheap Trick, along with his sons Drax Nielson (who also played with the group), and Miles Nielson, as well as Miles’ wife Kelly Stewart.
For the looks on stage, credit must go to lighting designer Sean Denny and programmer Garrett VanderVeen of Luxe Productions, who used a

Germany – Signify entertainment lighting brands Strand and Zero 88 have announced that they are previewing a new version of the popular ZerOS console software at Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt. The update adds integration with Strand Vision.Net, Color Kinetics KiNet, and Philips Hue, making it easier for small to mid-sized theatres, houses of worship and schools to connect to other lighting systems in the facility with minimal infrastructure impact.
“Most theatrical spaces have multiple systems to control the various luminaires inside and outside their facility, and because these systems don’t talk to each other, there is typically no way to initiate a single lighting cue for an event, such as a show start, across all the systems at once,” explains Jon Hole, global product manager, Strand and Zero 88 Controls and Systems.
“Instead, lighting adjustments need to

UK - London’s Playhouse Theatre has been transformed into the Kit Kat Club for an immersive production of Cabaret, where lighting designer Isabella Byrd has taken the opportunity to incorporate the new Martin MAC Ultra into her Olivier Award nominated design (see LSi March 2022 for a full production report).
“The MAC Ultras are the literal punchy centre of the in-the-round Cabaret light plot.” explains Isabella. “They are often playing solo in cues, and work in tandem with the Zactrack spotting system. Their clean colour mixing and speedy response enabled the design to gracefully tip the colour story - from a welcoming warmth, and later smash in with a j

Concert Revenues - Royalties from live performances of music fell almost 30% in 2021, despite concerts resuming in the summer. Concert revenues were just £8m, down from £11.3m in 2020 and £54m in 2019, said PRS for Music, the body that collects royalties for songwriters. Only 19,300 setlists were reported last year, it added, marking a huge decline from the 124,000 reported pre-pandemic.
"It's a huge decrease," said CEO Andrea Martin, "but we will see a bounce back this year." She said there was "renewed optimism" in the sector, with more than 240 major tours planned for the UK this year. Acts like Dua Lipa, Little Mix and Stormzy are already on the road, while stadium shows by Harry Styles, Elton John, The Rolling Stones and Adele are planned for the summer. However, Martin said, revenues are not expected to reach pre-pandemic levels until 2023.

UK - Producer and guitarist Carmelo Luggeri has released a new album with Kiki Dee, recorded using his ASP8024-HE mixing console. Entitled The Long Ride Home, this is their fourth studio album - and their first recorded using his Audient desk.
Located in his private studio - which doubles up as his writing and rehearsal space for himself and Kiki - the British analogue desk has been a part of his setup for over four years now. He explains its appeal: “Apart from it looking great, I love that it’s all neatly integrated for my needs: the DLC and the patchbay. Using the tactile, intuitive layout appeals to the ‘old school’ side of me, yet the DLC means I can control all the software with proper faders if I want to get away from the mouse!”
He uses Logic Pro X software and multiple plugins, and a few choice pieces of hardware, including a couple of Lexico
