UK - A.C. Special Projects (ACSP) have provided a full scale LED lighting system and various audio equipment to Kennet School in Berkshire, as part of a major upgrade aiming to reduce energy consumption and offer modern, flexible lighting for drama pupils to learn on.

ACSP's Lance Bromhead visited the school to discuss their project requirements. Having worked on numerous ACSP school drama LED lighting installations, Lance suggested that Kennet School's Head of Creative Media and Film, Peter Scoggins, and Dave Yates, drama technician, visited a recent system installation at Passmores Academy in Harlow, Essex.

He commented, "Passmores Academy had required a similarly efficient, low maintenance, user-friendly lighting solution. Fortuitously, the day we visited Passmores, they were putting on a show production, so it provided a good live demo of the lighting system."

UK - Featuring original songs by David Bryan, co-founder of Bon Jovi, and a storyline from Joe DiPietro, Memphis recently opened at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London's West End, complete with sound design by Gareth Owen. The show stars the Queen of British soul, Beverley Knight, opposite West End star Killian Donnelly, in a compelling show that is set in the 1950s underground nightclubs of Memphis, Tennessee, with a storyline about the racial challenges of the era and a great musical mix of rock'n'roll, blues and gospel.

At the heart of the sound system is a pair of Avid Venue control surfaces, Gareth's regular mixer of choice, while the sizeable sound system is an all-d&b audiotechnik affair. V-Series forms the core proscenium system (V8 and V12 cabinets), complemented by V and J-Infra Subs, and a T-Series centre cluster.

South Africa - Clay Paky's Massimo Bolandrina and Giovanni Zucchinali spent two weeks in South Africa carrying out demos everyday as they introduced the super heroes of lighting, The Projectors, to the market. In fact, a photo taken during this roadshow of a SuperSharpy beam projecting onto a cloud reached the second most "Likes" ever recorded on the Clay Paky Facebook page. It was liked 819 times (the number one pic has 859 likes) but also was 'shared' more than the other photo.

The Clay Paky Roadshow, put together and run by DWR's Robert Izzett was a wonderful success. Instead of having a central venue where clients were invited to see the products, The Projectors consisting of Supersharpy, Mythos and Stormy were taken to rental companies and theatres in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.

"This has been an amazing experience for the Clay Paky team," comm

France - ETC's Cobalt control desk is becoming increasingly popular in France, with ETC partner Avab Transtechnik France (ATF) supplying a Cobalt 20 desk to the Avignon Festival and a second sold for the EQI Cheval Libre equestrian show.

The Avignon Festival has invested in a Cobalt 20 desk for their main performance space with a Congo jr powered by Cobalt as online backup during the shows. Back in 1996, the event's organisers bought the first Avab desk to use in the Cour d'Honneur (Court of Honour) of the Palais des Papes (the Pope's Palace) and they also own 25 further Avab style desks that they use each year for their other spaces. So it was fitting that, when the Cobalt desk was released earlier this year, they were keen to try it out.

Says Jean Louis Pernette, commercial director for ATF, "The festival's technical managers realised they needed to modernise their main

Recently, POLARaudio and installers ProAV were invited to address a very demanding brief.

Societe Generale wanted to revolutionise its existing provision by combining the functions of a conferencing system with those of a public address system. It required a system capable of allowing communications to flow across multiple locations in two different buildings. The system was to be flexible and easy to use whilst at the same time offering very high quality, c

UK - When Stage Entertainments UK Ltd, the producers behind Made in Dagenham, moved swiftly into the Adelphi Theatre following the closure of The Bodyguard, they called upon Unusual Rigging to help them change seamlessly from one show to the other with the least amount of disruption.

Production manager Matt Towell explained, "Made in Dagenham features a very clever set and a very different look to what you would normally expect from a West End musical. Given the very dissimilar nature of the scenic elements of the two shows, there was only a certain amount of equipment that could be re-used, so it was far from simply taking light, sound and set off the old system and re-hanging it. I needed to work with a team I both knew and trusted and I knew I'd have that in Unusual's Jeremy Featherstone and his team."

Jeremy commented, "Our knowledge of

USA - USA - Main Light Industries, Inc., which offers lighting equipment rentals to the professional entertainment business from its base in Wilmington, Delaware, has taken delivery of 34 new Clay Paky Stormy CC fixtures. A.C.T Lighting, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of Clay Paky products in North America.

The innovative Stormy CC uses the latest LED technology while retaining all the charm of the classic strobe. Its light source is a strip of powerful white LEDs, which perfectly emulate a bright Xenon linear lamp. The flash effect is enhanced by the Stormy's parabolic reflector, like a classic strobe's, which does not project the light directly forward like other LED strobes.

"The Stormy CC fills a hole in the market with a realistic strobe-style fixture that isn't just a brick of LEDs," says John DiEleuterio at Main Light Industries. "Having a strobe that'

UK - Capital Sound fielded its full MLA system for the first time at the Royal Albert Hall to honour a special one-off performance by Paul Rodgers and his authentic Memphis R&B band; this comprised musicians who had worked on his album The Royal Sessions, recorded at the start of the year.

But Capital went a step further. In order to extract the optimum performance from the 14 MLA enclosures (plus down-fill) that formed the main front facing PA, and 14 MLA Compact (out-fills) on either flank of the historically difficult venue, earlier in the week their technical manager Ian Colville had undertaken a site survey and re-evaluation.

He explained, "As this was our first combined MLA/MLA-C show at the Royal Albert Hall, it seemed a good opportunity to check the architectural data to ensure that we had the most accurate information to enter into the [dedicated Martin Au
