USA - Wireless Solution Sweden played part in one of the most widely watched televised sporting events in the world - Super Bowl XLV. The technology was used to light the exterior entrances of the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where the event was held on 6 February.

The hosting venue, Cowboys Stadium, built less than two years ago, is the largest domed stadium in the world with a capacity of 110,000 (including standing room). The actual attendance on Super Bowl Sunday was 103,219.

UK - Flightcase manufacturer 5 Star has supplied a variety of cases to audio specialists RG Jones Sound Engineering to transport various specialist tennis umpire equipment and audio kit used during the Wimbledon Championships.

RG Jones project manager, Tim Speight contacted 5 Star about the project, having been previously impressed by the quality of their products and the excellent service. Phil Lawrence oversaw the supply and delivery for 5 Star.

Speight works with a team co-ordinating all RG Jones' business with The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, for whom the company has been the key audio contractor since 1985. This includes the provision of system design services, installation and on-site engineering support during The Championships. This year, up to 10 RG Jones sound engineers will be on duty every day throughout the Wimbledon Fortnight.

UK / Germany - On the eve of the EN54 series of fire safety standards passing into European law this week, TOA has announced that another raft of its products have been given EN54-24 loudspeaker system certification.

The first manufacturer to offer a total solution for EN54-certified voice evacuation systems, TOA continues to gain certification for additional products in its range, and has now confirmed that the PC-2369EN ceiling speaker, along with horn and box speakers BS-678BSB, BS-678BSW, CS-64BS, CS-154BS and SC-615BS as well as the PC-1867FC ceiling speaker and BS-680FC steel cabinet speaker have all been given EN54-24 approval. UK - Fohhn Arc Series AT-50 and AT-09 loudspeakers have been installed in the Concord College at Acton Burnell near Shrewsbury. Concord is a co-educational international boarding school with students from more than 50 different countries aged 13 to 19.

Lancaster-based company Low Fold Audio. carried out the installation in the college theatre, which is used for a range of activities including presentations, full theatre and live music shows.

Two Fohhn AT-50 loudspeakers have been flown from the lighting bar to form the main PA system, with four AT-09 speakers fixed to the wall either side of the stage for use as in-fills, positioned to cover the balcony seating and the first few rows of the main auditorium. CAMCO, the German distributor of Nexo products, hosted a successful demonstration of the new monitors to a meeting of Nexo hire companies. UK - Impact Production Services (IPS) recently supplied, installed and operated a lighting package that included Martin MAC 101 LED moving heads for the European premiere of the Justin Bieber film Never Say Never at the O2 Arena in London. The event took place on 16 February with journalists, fans and other guests in attendance to catch a glimpse of the Canadian pop sensation.

IPS supplied equipment for the main entrance area to the O2, in which Bieber appeared on a balcony, as well as lighting for the façade of the Cineworld Cinema, where the film showing took place. Martin MAC 101's were positioned by the Cinema entrance, with rapid movements and colour changes used to form waves of light on a drape cloth to emphasize the glitzy feel of the event. The MAC 101s were also used to create a searchlight effect onto the drape as 1800 guests walked into the Cinema.

Germany - Riedel Communications has announced that all of its intercom-over-IP products are fully compatible to the just recently released EBU Tech 3347 standard. This makes Riedel the first manufacturer providing VoIP intercom products compliant to the EBU Tech 3347 standard.

For meeting the growing demand for standardized protocols for IP based intercom, the European Broadcast Union (EBU) defined the specifications for interoperable intercom-over-IP. The EBU Tech 3347 standard will allow for a standardized operation between interfaces of different vendors, thus changing the way large installation will be handled in the future. Interoperable intercom will also make it easier for broadcasters to communicate with each other at large-scale events such the Eurovision Song Contest, which is run by the EBU.
