Germany - Litestructures has recently completed one of its most complex and challenging design and build projects for the skating extravaganza, Holiday On Ice. This internationally famous ice show, which is owned and managed by Dutch firm, Stage Entertainment, began its 2007 schedule in Hamburg on 8 November.

Project manager Hans Willems of W.I. Creation presented Litestructures with the challenge to design and construct the large and complex structures required, working from an original design concept by set designer, Bart Clement.

The final structure comprises three sections, the dominant feature being a huge central spiral, measuring 25m across, 4.5m deep and more than 150m overall length. UK - Veteran shock rocker Alice Cooper is once again having his highly theatrical stage show lit by Bandit Lites. Currently in the UK and Europe, playing arenas and large theatres, lighting director, Chad "Chopper" Lewis is working alongside a combined crew - Ewan Cameron and Paul Holst - from Bandit UK and Bandit Inc in the US.

This is Lewis' second tour with Cooper and his first visit to the UK, about which he comments: "The continuity between Mike Golden at Bandit Lites Inc and Lester Cobrin at Bandit Lites UK makes touring Europe exceptionally smooth, and ensures that the high production values and 'Bandit Standard' that we expect are maintained. I have been really impressed with the UK operation."

Latvia - The Latvian State Television Company, LTV, after extensive consultation and evaluation, has chosen LSC to control its television lighting. Installed in Studio No.6 the maXim XXL is now solely responsible for the lighting on the popular serial soap opera Neprata Cena (Price of Madness).

Viktors Andrejevs from LTV commented: "The maXim has a fantastic feature set, and the downtime for learning the new console was almost non-existent. I was surprised to find out just how intuitive the operating system really is."

Australia - The HMAS Cerberus is the Royal Australian Navy's premier training establishment. Located 70km from Melbourne near Crib Point on Hann's Inlet, Western Port Bay, the centre trains about 6,000 personnel annually, averaging 800 trainees onboard at any one time.

Purchased in 1911 and originally called Flinders Naval Depot, it was commissioned as HMAS Cerberus 10 years later. It includes numerous training and recreation facilities, two chapels, a small marina and grounds covering 1517 hectares.

The awards, given during a Swedish vodka-and-meatball party, congratulated two pioneers in W-DMX technology with a custom made GoldBox, along with other Swedish gifts. The W-DMX Visionary Award was created as a way to recognise individuals in the professional lighting industry who were early adopters of W-DMX and had an immediate vision about how it could be applied to great advantage in their respective production environments.

UK - Digital solutions specialists Projected Image Digital (PID) has specified, supplied and installed an innovative LED light work in the foyer/entrance of Tate Liverpool, located on the City's historic Albert Dock.

Tate Liverpool is one of the highest profile modern art galleries in the North West and also one of the busiest, attracting up to 600,000 visitors a year. Initially, PID were contacted by Manchester-based architects ARCA, this was following a phone call from lighting designer Paul Normandale and a demonstration by PID at Tate Liverpool in October 2006.

ARCA's Emma Corbett wanted to create a 'lightgate' concept, designed to refresh and revitalise the foyer and entrance areas, to help make the space work and flow better and be more versatile for the myriad of different functions and events hosted at the Gallery - from corporates to Northern Soul evenings.

Canada - For the past 26 years, the annual broadcast of the Canadian Country Music Awards has recognised and celebrated the best in Canadian country music. For this year's event held at the Brandt Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan, Toronto-based P.A. Plus Productions, used the Soundcraft Vi6 digital live sound console, which was deployed as the dedicated monitor desk for the entire show.

Berry was head-hunted by the band earlier in the year and started working with them during the summer, leading up to the release of their eighth album, Hey Venus. Changing graphic designers for the first time in 10 years for the album artwork, they tracked down cult Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami and asked him to design their record cover.

This album cover became Berry's starting point for the light show aesthetics. Colourful and quirky, the base layer of artwork featured a lighthouse complete with five shafts of light beaming out brightly and positively from it.

Berry had a set of scenic cloth 'rays' made up by Back2Front which they carried for the festivals. This concept was then developed for the tour, when Prompt Corner added light-proof backing material to

The Modern club is located within a heritage building and has also been a club in the past. As in any thriving district, venues re-vamp and switch hands at a steady pace, each time reaching for ever more dazzling designs in order to attract the much sought after clientele.
