UK - SSE London has completed the installation of a multi-zone, multi-purpose sound reinforcement system at The Society, a new venue in Northampton which eases gracefully from gastro-pub at lunchtime to nightclub in the evening. An all-Nexo design provides the appropriate transition from background music to full-on dance floor sound.

The Society is a new venture from James Morgan of the Brittania Property Corporation, which already operates a number of venues, but this is the first of a new breed. According to Morgan, the aim is "to do something different to everything else we do. It will still offer the gastro food and fine wine that we are known for, but it will be the first of the Society Bar/Kitchen Venue brand."

It's also the first venture outside London, appealin

Austria - From 23-25 August, the mountains around Kitzbühel were the setting for Hansi Hinterseer's sixth Fanwanderung, in which over 6,000 of the Austrian Volksmusik star's fans accompanied him on a hike in the mountains. Since the event is intended as a celebration of the joys not only of nature but also of music, the Fieberbrunn-based production company Murdock Music Entertainment was engaged to install sound reinforcement systems at each of the three stations at which the procession made a halt.

At the top station of the Hahnenkamm, the 1,668m mountaintop jumping-off point for the hair-raising downhill ski event, Murdock installed a system including EV Xi-2123 enclosures and Xsubs.

For the traditional mountainside mass in the Hahnenkamm chapel, EV XLD enclosures were installed. At the Ehrenbachsee, a lake at an altitude of 1,802m, Hinterseer gave a concert with his

Italy - ETC has responded to a request for sponsorship from la Biennale di Venezia by supplying some 350 Source Four luminaires, to complement the 300 that the organisation already owns.

La Biennale alternates between architecture and art/theatre/film and, as the name suggests, is a biannual event held in Venice. First held in 1895, the event has become increasingly international, with representatives from different countries being invited to install national pavilions at the exhibition. This year, 76 countries are represented.

The venue, the Arsenale di Venezia (Venetian Arsenal) is a former shipyard and naval depot which in its heyday in the early 16th century employed some 16,000 people who were able to produce nearly one ship each day. Now, some 250,000 people come from across Italy and around the world between July and November to see the art.

USA - City Theatrical's new SHoW DMX wireless DMX received the 'Best Debuting Product of the Year' in the Lighting category at the LDI show in Orlando.

The SHoW DMX system utilises a method that synchronises the hopping pattern of the radio with the incoming DMX burst to attain levels of data fidelity previously unreachable with wireless DMX, says the company. Additionally, SHoW DMX has a range of features including adjustable output power, limited bandwidth mode, and limited burst mode that allow it to peacefully coexist with other radio signals in the busy 2.4 GHz band.

SHoW DMX also is fully RDM, so users can change radio settings and monitor receiver strength from their laptop during the performance, as well as monitor any other manufacturer's RDM gear on their production.

City Theatrical's president, Gary Fails said: "Our SHoW DMX system is truly breakthrough techn

UK - London has seen the increasing spread across the capital of Latin influenced culture in the form of the South American restaurant, café bar and music venue club night.

This is nowhere more so than on the busy and often tumultuous thoroughfare of Islington High Street. The popularity of all things Latino from margaritas to tortilla, is obviously finding local favour as evidenced by the recent opening of Barrio North, a 'neighbourhood' DJ bar on Essex Road, close to Islington Green.

The interior uses reclaimed materials to re-cycle discarded items in unexpected and surprisingly visually pleasing ways including a plywood canopied ceiling, a wall of reversed tiles and La Caravana, a completly customised vintage caravan. The concept is inspired by owner, Ferdie Ahmed's experience of cities, replete with a Latin edge.

The intention to bring the El Barrio experience to

USA - Digidesign's Eleven guitar amp emulation plug-in for Pro Tools, Avid, and Digidesign Venue systems is now available for purchase.

"Eleven really captures those subtle, yet immensely important nuances that make the guitar amp combos we cloned sound like the real thing," cites Dusty DiMercurio, marketing manager for Eleven. "Our Eleven team really went the extra mile with this plug-in by including non-linear characteristics often overlooked in other amp-modeling solutions - things like power amp sag, speaker cone breakup, cabinet resonance, and ghost notes. The result of this painstaking attention to detail delivers what we feel is the most incredible and realistic digital guitar amp emulations we've heard; it's something we're all very proud of here at Digidesign."

"Eleven was a very exciting, and truly challenging project for our engineers,"

UK - When Andrew Costi and Jim Dee realised that their 120-cover Bar-Celona restaurant in the Kingswood suburb of Bristol, was starting to draw more of a clubbing crowd, gathering for drinks at front-of-house, they came up with a plan.

Says Costi: "My business partner owned the building two doors down and so we converted it from an Italian restaurant and then purchased the building in between, to create an entertainment venue."

The result is that they not only have one giant piece of real estate (with a roof terrace) but can bridge between the restaurant and their vibrant new live and dance venue - via a conservatory area which is used for wedding receptions and private events.

The Bar-Celona MD brought in local installers CPM to specify and design a sound system built around Martin Audio's AQ range. This would not only service the needs of the DJ's, who play out t
