UK - Rigging industry personality John Jones is to launch a new company, LTM - Lift Turn Move, at PLASA 2004: "It's the perfect opportunity - having the whole industry in one place at one time," he says. The investment by RLPE provides MKG with the financial strength to pursue its ongoing strategy of rolling out the Academy brand across the UK, building on its existing successful venues. Carling Academy Brixton is MKG's flagship venue, having hosted major live acts including the Rolling Stones, Madonna and Eminem. UK - Audient Group has added another member to their sales team - 22 year-old Ross McFarlane. Originally from Glasgow, McFarlane recently graduated from the BA (Hons) Sound Technology course at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), just two years after UK sales manager Nick Pemberton. "My time at LIPA has really helped me see the audio and performing arts industries as a whole. It's a fantastic course and has shown me the ropes in many of the fields inhabited by Audient and LA Audio, so I will be able to communicate with our customers at their level," explains McFarlane, who will fill the role of product specialist, answering technical queries and providing support for both the Audient and LA Audio product ranges.

His most recent work, with Stage Electrics, has also given him a hands-on insight into the UK rental market.

USA - American DJ has introduced a new lighting effect for clubs and DJs. The Hyper Beam is a 250W multi-coloured prismatic effect which can be operated all night, with no duty cycle. Coloured rays of light reflect off of four mirrors through a rotating three-sided prism, creating constant movement and covering a wide area.

The Hyper Beam can create nine different colours plus white. An FX switch lets DJs choose from three different modes of operation: Sound-active prism rotation and continuous dichro dish rotation; sound-active prism rotation with dichro dish stationary; and sound-active prism rotation and sound-active dichro dish rotation. Each mode puts its own unique and exciting twist on the Hyper Beam's hyperactive performance.

UK - Essex-based Xtreme Audio Visual has installed an audio package from Fuzion in The Elbow Room, Notting Hill, part of a highly successful chain of pool bars and club venues around the UK. The system comprises a pair of Nexo PS10 full-range cabinets, three pairs of Nexo PS8 compact cabinets and Crown CE1000 amplifiers. In addition to pool tables, The Elbow Room has a bar and dance floor area which has just been fitted with a portable DJ booth for use at weekends. The PS10s provide the dance floor with enough level, while the PS8s are used around the pool tables.

Commenting on the install, Xtreme's Duncan Baines said: "This bar is in a very densely populated neighbourhood, so potentially there are problems with the neighbours. The PS10s and PS8s provide good-quality sound without needing to be pumped."

UK CT Screenco's association with the V Festivals extends back to the event's inception in 1996. This year, the big screen specialist began a new three-year contract with the promoters and were again in action at both Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park in Staffordshire, where they fielded identical 32sq.m 25mm daylight displays at left and right of the main stage.

With Stuart Young project managing the event for CT Screenco, feeds were taken from the respective content providers and at Hylands Park this included some creative messaging from Blink TV. In addition, Barco DLite 7 high resolution displays were provided independently to Basement Jaxx, whom CT Screenco have been supporting on tour and to Red Bull's Kingsize II skateboard ramp in Weston Park, which is also midway through a national tour, with CT Screenco again providing visual reinforcement.

This is a powerful system, say LSC, its power generated from the proven maXim engine and advanced intelligent light control from the company's PaTPad touchscreen module. The unit has a multitude of playback masters - up to 29 simultaneously, 500 memories, 100 fixtures, 100 groups, 100 presets, 100 palettes and 1024 DMX output channels. It has no faders, just dedicated latching and flashing buttons with a tri-colour status LED for each playback. Eight 'specials' can store looks or timed events for strobes, smoke machines or other DMX-controlled equipment. The front panel is made from 8mm laser-etched clear acrylic that is side-lit with white LEDs.
