USA - Situated in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Christ the King was initiated in 1981 as a Catholic ‘Charismatic Renewal’ church. Its current church building was dedicated in 2001 - and although it may be fairly new by church standards, the church was still operating off its original sound system, which was struggling to provide even coverage across three naves, fanning out from a central space.

“While they had some good seats, some were not so good in terms of coverage, and that was their main impetus for the upgrade,” stated Steve Newby, founder of family-owned AV systems integrator Annunciation Audio-Visual Services, who won a three-way competitive bid.

“While we’ve replaced the electronics a couple of times, and the operators were doing a fantastic job making it sound as good as possible, there was no getting away from the fact that an upgrade

Strike Preparations - Actors’ Equity Association in the US is to continue with "strike preparations" in New York, after the union and the Broadway League failed to reach an agreement following two days of mediation. The union and trade association the Broadway League have been in negotiations since August over the production contract, which contains the terms of employment for stage managers and actors on Broadway. The last three-year contract ended on 28 September.

A central issue of the negotiations is healthcare and the Broadway League’s financial contribution to the union’s healthcare fund. AEA is asking Broadway League to "pivot toward humane scheduling, including providing paid time off", to pay its "fair share toward our health insurance" and to "reasonably and safely staff our workplaces to foster safety and prevent emergencies".

USA - Last year, to mark their 54th anniversary, The Doobie Brothers surprised the music industry by breaking new ground on the uplifting Walk This Road album, their first recording ever that featured both Tom Johnston and Michael McDonald.  (The two had recorded with the group at different points in the past, but never together.)

This embrace of the new carried over to Seth Jackson’s production design for the successful national tour that has been supporting the album this summer and fall. Breaking with traditional expectations, the show supported the Doobie Brother’s performance with a vibrant new storytelling design that included no beams.

Jackson explained the inspiration behind the creative process. “Since this show is supporting the first recording with Tom Johnston and Michael McDonald, we wanted something out of the ordinary.

USA - When Stonegate Church in Texas set out to expand its campus, audio was a central part of the vision. They wanted a sound system that could deliver power and clarity across multiple spaces: from an intimate chapel to a massive outdoor lawn with sports courts and student hangouts. All while remaining visually unobtrusive.

“Stonegate is our church,” Aaron Ingersoll, owner of First Class Productions, explains. “We wanted to do it right for them.”

The design process began in the chapel, where the church emphasised an organic aesthetic. The main focal point of the room was a brick wall, once part of an outdoor patio before the expansion. The leadership wanted the audio to be big and immersive, but the speakers had to disappear into the space.
